First, the obligitory Palm Pre Tattoo. Second, public craziness and risk to career. Today: Danger to life and limb intestines. Fellow Pre fanatics, meet Mike. He headed over to Brick Lane Curry House to eat the Phaal Curry - purported to be the hottest food in America - intimidating enough to scare the heck out of the stars of Adam of Man v. Food. Here, we'll let Mike tell the tale:
This is the spiciest curry known to the restaurant industry. [...] Ladies and gentlemen, this curry requires a waiver absolving the restaurant of physical or emotional damage incurred from eating it. I don't know if I have a heart condition, but I will know after eating this curry if I do, because it'll probably kick it into overdrive. The menu itself describes the curry as "more pain and sweat than flavor." [...] This curry is so deadly that the chefs need to wear rebreathers and gas masks when they make it to prevent damage to their palates. It's so potent that if they sample it, they can't cook anything for the rest of the night. The chefs are that wrecked. [...] Few people would even take a shot at the phaal curry - but I will do this, with gusto and joy, for a Pre and PreCentral.net.
Your Palm Pre is well deserved, sir. We hope your tongue and intestines have recovered. (Oh, and we eagerly await the future children your curry-addled brain caused you to offer to us).

I give the guy props... although to me, something doesn't seem 100% right about this video.. Too much switching around.. Camera goes from one view to another. I personally didnt eat the curry, but at almost 800,000 SHU scoville scale, I find it hard to believe this fellow was holding a conversation longer then 10seconds and kept a conversation going for a while.
In college we actually tested people tasting something (we have locally) called atomic wings. They rate at about 200,000 SHU. We had people who won challenges in "Eating the hottest wing" and had them taste a 200,000 SHU wing. They indulged and they ate about 5 wings, talking and acting tough, after that, they had to stop and breath and take their time.
I'm not saying this guy faked this, but if he can do what he did, eating a 800,000 SHU, he should be in a competition. I hate saying somethings fishy, but this, to me doesn't seem right.
Sorry I'm just expressing my opinion. I've been to brick lane curry house when I was in NY, I believe they have an online record of everyone that eats the phaal curry (And thats just ONE BITE from what I understood when i was there, i hope im wrong), So hopefully we see his face on there and its all legit :) I dont wanna be right in this situation, but this guy seriously should join some competitions if this is legit!
Winner here. Are there competitions for spicy food? I'd definitely be interested in checking this out.
And for what it's worth, that wasn't exactly the Lincoln-Douglas debates in terms of conversation - I was focusing more on shoveling food than being social.
As for your wing guys... did they have time to psych up and prepare themselves mentally? Sounds like they were just being macho... I dared not underestimate this phaal.
I'm not on the P'Hall of Fame on Brick Lane's site yet but I can scan the certificate as proof if that helps. Or provide the uninterrupted 10ish-minute-long cut of me eating the phaal. That's where the cuts originated from.
man im hungry now, curry doesnt look so bad i like spicy food
I've had Chicken Phaal before. Yes it is hot, hotter than any wings I've ever had. If I had known it was going to be this easy I'd have come up with something.
I'm not convinced.
What a nut! I would just buy my Pre. And when Palm comes out with the even sexier Palm device? I guess there's always laser removal. LOL!
I dont think this is real. He showed no signs of discomfort.
Well he said he shoveled it down in just a few minutes. Either way he did at least try the curry if not really eating all of it which is enough in my book.
Maybe someone should cut off a finger, toe or ear and send the video in
I, too, was surprised that he could talk, but it was still awesome to watch.
It does occur to me that the restaurant wouldn't want to be seen, on-camera, joking and talking with a guy then give him something so hot that it might make his nose bleed. If they offered to give him a "cut" version (which was the impression I got from their convo) maybe they did it on their own, without his knowledge.
If that was 100% real, though, this dude is seriously hardcore. Whatever the case, congrats, man. You are envied.
Guys, this is some weak sauce. Congrats to the winner for his idea; if I had known it was that easy, I would have done it.
Spicy =! hot. And I really question how "hot" this really was.
I've had some cajun and mexican food that is literally wrecks you for days because it is so hot.
I really, really doubt it was 800K SHU. (They may have said that, but I've had that, and they talking ceases after minute.
Eh, not impressed at all. I've tried that thing, and trust me... is it NOT "the hottest food in America." I've tried hotter/spicier food than that, this one doesn't even top the charts in that category. Sure it's pretty hot, but I think anyone that likes spicy food can gobble it up pretty easily.
Like the guy above me said, great idea, but way too easy.
Were we watching the same video? Did you see how pink his face was at the end? Did you not see the sweat glistening off his forehead?
You are a brave and somewhat crazy guy Mike, you deserve the phone. I want anyone doubting it to go get their certificate too.
I LOVE curry! It's even hotter coming out than going in though! THAT is the real challenge!!!
