So, remember that Wikipedia link in the Universal Search? The one that, until last week, took you to the full desktop website? That’s different now, and taking its cues from a number of mobile Wikipedia apps (including the Infopedia portal in the webOS App Catalog), Wikipedia has launched a new online mobile website that gives you Wikipedia without dealing with all the desktop gobbledygook. It even gives you access to all Wikipedia intra-page chapters and image links, in both English and German. Wikimedia even made the mobile site the default for smartphone browsers, at the request of Google and Palm!
Now, this isn’t everything Wikipedia. If you want to edit something, you’re going to have to go with the full Wikipedia website. Thankfully, the folks at Wikimedia saw fit to include both a “View this page on regular Wikipedia” link and a “Permanently disable mobile site” link. It’s not a perfect solution, and they know it, so they’re even asking for your input in the creation of a full mobile editing system.

Which makes that Wikipedia app pretty much useless.
I have to wonder why one of the few developers to get early access was someone who was building a front-end to Wikipedia... that would (obviously!) be made moot by a Wikipedia redesing. Given the prominence of Wikipedia in the Pre's design (it's in universal search), this cannot be a surprise.
I just wish they'd invited a developer that had a more useful app to participate in the early development program.
I must say that I enjoy the experience of the mobile wikipedia site better than that of the Infopedia app!
I've never been sent to the regular version of Wikipedia. I've had my Pre for a couple of weeks now and it always loaded the mobile version...

with the mobile you can choose to move along to the regular view if you scroll to the bottom of the page and select it. i like the mobile app so far - especially since have the choice of moving into regular wikipedia if desired without having to go to the web via the launcher
Pre+stupid. Nice tiny keyboard there, your baby will have trouble with it. Great- you stole the iPhone's browser but somehow it's still inferior. 8 gigabytes max? That's so last century. Sprint customer service? may get some information out of them in a year. iPhone looks better has more features and is original.

The web brower want stolen from anyone. Web Kits is open source and is the basis for no less then 12 major web browsers.
Also you are entitle to your opinion, but at least try to back them up with facts.

For all the gushing uncritical articles here, let's at least be truthful and accurate sometimes.
Palm had no relationship and didn't even know wikipeida was developing this.
The "requests" in the original article on the wikipeida tech blog refer to browser requests. The IE moblie browser was already taken care of.
