What's New in Homebrew Apps: Quick PIM Apps, preDevCamp Apps

As of this writing, our Homebrew Apps Gallery has 117 apps for your downloading pleasure.  What's new?  Plenty.

We have several apps that look to fix up the Pre's core PIM functionality. There's Quick Event, which uses the Pre's "Just start typing" philosophy to let you enter in calendar information like "Dinner with Jane 8pm to 10 pm Thursday at Vescio's" and turn that into a calendar entry automatically (bonus: Linux gurus can patch Universal Search do to the same!). We have Quick Contacts and Quick Dialer, two honest-to-god speed dial applications, too.  Or how about three Google Voice apps that have been seeing near-weekly updates?

There's plenty more, but we're going to take a moment to once again point out that we have a bunch of app that were created or significantly updated at preDevCamp - find them all here. preDevCamp developers have until Midnight on Saturday to submit their apps to the gallery for voting both in for the category prizes (Pre phones!) or the User's Choice award (another Pre Phone!). More details on the contest here.  Developers: Contact us to get in the gallery.  Homebrew lovers, be sure to vote on your favorite preDevCamp Apps!

New to Homebrew apps? Don't sweat it.  If you want to learn how to install them, check out this handy guide. If it's all a bit much, we suggest you take a gander at the App Gallery anyway -- plenty of these apps should eventually graduate from our Gallery and into the official App Catalog. We've updated the gallery to include a category drop down (check out the crazy number of System Utilities) in addition to the tags in the sidebar.

So what's your favorite Homebrew app?  Mine just might be PrePod, which is already a serious contender for "Best Podcast App I've ever used."

Update: Totally forgot: Rod Whitby of PreWare.org has done everybody in the Homebrew community a solid and created a standard ipkg repository from multiple sources, including ours, which you can find here - which means our repo is available both on FileCoaster (with screenshots and descriptsion) and PreLoad. Thanks, Rod!

filecoaster - it makes getting all the other homebrews a cinch

Obviously filecoaster is the most useful, but I play DopeWars religously and am GLAD it is already available!

Agree with both of you. Filecoaster is sheer awesomeness. But once you put that aside PrePod is wild also. I use it everyday to GET IT ON with the Adam Carolla Podcast and others.

No way ... same here! GET IT ON!!! Adam is always in my PrePod :D

My Vote has to be filecoaster!! :)

fileCoaster, Switcharoo, and PrePod are my favorites (based on usage frequency) but there are so many good ones!

I have to say Filecoaster then PrePod now I wish someone would make a great video games app like flixster just for game trailers and upcoming games. I'm sure if done right this would be an amazing app to have.

Filecoaster for the ease, switcharoo for the sheer pleasure, and dope wars for the fun at work!

I use PrePod daily. It is a great PodCaster, especially with the beta video capability.

I play DopeWars a bunch too, but I don't think I can vote for that, cause I wrote it. ;)

Hope you are updating it a bunch too.

Filecoaster and MyTether, the Dark Prince of homebrew apps!

FileCoaster and PrePod are definite must-haves!

Filecoaster is ridiculously easy to use.
I like blockdrop.
Fireworks is nice.
I don't really listen to podcasts. Maybe I should, lol.
Switcharoo is nice too.

FileCoaster - unbelievably easy. LOVE IT!!

FileCoaster is very convenient, especially now that it views the app gallery directly. PrePod is excellent, especially for saving the play position within a PodCast and allowing quick scrubbing through large podcast files.

Thanks, Homebrewers!!

Filecoaster and Switcharoo get my votes for usability. Quick Event may end up being used much, also.

How do we delete the apps we do not want after we download them?

Hold down the orange button and tap on the program's icon in the Launcher. You'll be prompted to delete the app.

Actually, http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/ is the location of all the feeds, not http://ipkg.preware.org/feeds/preware/all/ (which is just the couple of applications from webos-internals.org which require commands to be run as root after installation).

valiant10 - To delete an app, hold down Orange and click the app's icon in the launcher. That will bring up a menu to let you delete the app.

I noticed that with using fileCoaster on the phone installation of apps can occur whether dev mode is on or off. Question is, how? Apps appear to work fine but I do have a nagging concern they might not have been fully and correctly installed?

So on the lead image of this post there is an icon with a very distinguishable "winamp" logo... When I look through the app selection, I don't see that icon again... As winamp is my preferred music player on my PC (and has been since the days of Napster - the REAL days of Napster) I would love to "Whip the Llama's A$$" on my PRE!

For those of you who don't know... when you download winamp, it comes with a preloaded 5 second mp3 that says, "Winamp,WINAMP it really whips the llama's A$$"

I would like to request a file vault app. I know that the iphone has one where you can lock away, picks, messages and videos in it; and if someone tries to open the vault using the wrong password 3xs in a row it will take them into a fake vault with generic pics. I think it would be nice to be able to have an app to store things like that in there. Anyone up for the challenge? I'd be willing to donate if this app came available. Thanks
W

ever since i loaded up filecoaster and hooked up with homebrew my pre doesnt sinc up with my wifi router error message association failed ,....anyone else having this problem??..if so how do i fix??
