While Sprint may have been ready for webOS 1.4 since the 15th, actual roll-out of the OS hasn't happened yet. That's not too surprising - we've seen internal dates from Sprint slip in the past. But Palm promised a February release and time is quickly running out.
A Verizon tipster has let us know that the 'hard date' for the rollout is going to be February 25th. As in updates past, the update will roll out to around 100,000 devices at a time. However, as in updates past once the update hits you're free to launch the update app and download / install it yourself.
webOS 1.4 is expected to bring video recording, compatibility with Flash 10.1 (though Flash 10.1 is definitely coming later), minor speed improvements, and that somewhat new way of launching a card you see above. We have also heard that webOS 1.4 will also finally turn on the LED alert by default, removing the need for a patch.

Well, I can confirm that my GSM Palm Pre running on O2 in Germany already has the 3G-symbol although it is running WebOS 1.3.5.2 and not WebOS 1.4 ... :-)
But who knows when WebOS 1.4 will hit Europe? :-(
My guess is that because webOS 1.4 is a big update, Palm has to make sure that it's roll-out here in America is flawless. Once that happens, we may see a quick release in Europe (and Canada). The question is whether paid apps, which will be enabled in Europe next month (March 2010), will be done with webOS 1.3.5.2 first. My guess is that it will first come to webOS 1.3.5.2, and then Palm will focus on the webOS 1.4 roll-outs in Europe. My speculation is that after webOS 1.4 is released in Europe, all future release of webOS will be on the same schedule globally. Now that is something to hope for!
Interesting, I read the same article as you, no where does it say, "Verizon has a solid release date". Just like the "tipster" from Sprint, the alleged Verizon tipster, could be full of BS! Also, since the release of the Pre on Sprint, Sprint hasn't fooled with any of the previous updates!

I would take a slightly different approach. I would say that Sprint has not messed-up any updates. The fact that I have received about eight updates from Sprint and they have all worked flawlessly is a great feat. I would rather have an update delayed than experience problems after my update. So I am one satisfied Sprint customer.
in that respect and others, make that 2 satisefied sprint customers, and I can't wait either . I had the red V before and I'm not going to do any bashing but I'll never make that mistake twice.

why are you critical of sprint on this. First, they never publicly announced a release date. Second, They don't have control over the release date. Third, verizon is likely the reason it hasn't been released yet. Fourth, verizon hasn't publicly announced a date either. Fifth, changing the icon from EV to 3g is purely cosmetic, it doesn't change anything substantial. It's just an icon.

You may believe it's 10.1 but trust me, it isn't. Did you not see the lag in the nexus hacked rom flash video? That's because that flash isn't hardware accelerated (GPU) as it's flash lite 4 which is compatible with 10.1. Wow I watched that video in its entirety and was rather surprised how the guy could hardly get ANYTHING to work right. And the UI is still clunky, HTC Sense notwithstanding.
I think the Palm Pre's greatest challenge is not so much the software, but hardware (duh). Imagine a Palm Pre with a Snapdragon/Tegra processor, on 4G, and at least 512mb RAM? I mean... I'm droolin' over here as I type this, guys.

You do realize that ROM is a leak right? A lot of Rom's get leaked from HTC. What all kinds of devices have flash 10.1 right now? NONE! I think it's time YOU downgrade your phone.
Adobe also said that Android needed to get another update before Flash would be able to fully work. Who knows how long that's going to take for all those phones stuck on 1.5, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.1? Probably 4Q10 or first half of next year (if phones even support the update).

i think since n1 is so powerful, its the easiest phone to program a power hog like flash on.... meanwhile with the pre there has to be optimizations after optimizations done to compensate for the less speed and memory. But im still hoping we get it first tho... Thats bragging rights!!!
1. Learn to type. Seriously, you write like you're 5 years old.
2. A HACKED ROM that risks bricking your phone is not the same thing as an official release. The Nexus 1 has had all sorts of problems. Until recently, it couldn't even maintain a proper 3G signal. And T-Mobile's coverage pales in comparison to Sprint and Verizon.
3. From what I've seen, Flash performance in that leaked ROM is practically unusable. I'd rather wait a few weeks/months and have a fully working and fast app than have a buggy unusable feature.
4. Android will officially be getting Flash either around the same time or possibly even later than the Pre. So grow up, get a life, and get a clue.
Have they issued those fixes for the Nexus 1 phone - I heard people are still experiencing technical problems. I guess you must be one of them. Personally I don't like the user interface of that phone - it seems as if its primary function is to search for things. You must be desperate for the low sales. It is not surprising, the Nexus 1 is for Linux developers and those that like to hack their phones. You must be bored; I guess you bought the wrong phone. Let me tell you something other people already told you. Nobody wants to hear what you want. In my opinion Android sucks and HTC even more. They just build some GUI over a crappy MS system. Can't believe that they even made it that far. Love my Pre in it's current State. I'm just waiting for the Paid App Catalog and PDK. Finally 3D comes to private devs. YES =)!
You must be on drugs. HTC makes the most solid, innovative handsets in the industry. For a Palm Pre owner to crack on any other hardware on the market is insanity. WebOS is awesome but the Pre itself is a piece of garbage.
haha, i work for Sprint, until the Hero, every HTC WinMo handset was complained about, especially the original touch.
I have never had a good HTC device, nor have I ever seen a good HTC device.
The screen on one of my phones cracked as soon as I sat down, (it was in my front pocket!) and that apparently was a known defect that HTC wanted to charge people $100 to fix. I ended up selling it on eBay for $30, when I could have just fixed it myself for $40, but I did not want that phone back.

You can't be serious. I wasn't talking about the hardware. I was talking about the Software. WinMo Devices have proberbly the best Hardware out there but can't use it cause of the OS working on them. HTC just came up with the idea: "Hey most people hate WinMo because it simply doesn't look nice. Now here comes our Idea. We will make a GUI over the existing GUI." When I saw the first HTC I thought: "They can't be serious that people will fall for that kind of fake." But actually it worked and I can't believe it till today! Perhaps HTC has now the power (money) to event something on their own (OS). We will see...
Ah yeah I owned the HTC One for two weeks and brought it back to store. I felt like I have to destroy the touchscreen to give commands. The sound output was horrible. The OS sucked. I wasn't able to sync my device with Mac or Linux. The OS said good bye twice a Day. The third Party Software I must admit was cool! Also the standby time.

Adobe did not promise anything. You are correct to say that there was general expectation that Flash beta would be released in 2009. But it would not be responsible of Adobe to release Flash beta before it is stable and reliable. Just remember that the first function of a smartphone is its telephone function. You would not want to get a piece of software that disables your phone, would you?
If it hits then, that will be cool. It will be a blast to have video. If it doesn't, well, I will be entertained at all the bitching and belly aching. That is almost as fun.

Instead of the apps popping right up fullscreen, they load in the background and zoom in. Makes them seem to load instantly.
?? So instead of getting immediate feedback that you launched something, you get no feedback, and then suddenly a completely loaded app eventually appears? More info needed...
Currently, you click on an app, nothing shows for a while until the app is loaded, the app comes up and your set. With the new way it appears that you click on an app, a card with the icon of the app is shown loading, then the card goes fullscreen when its done loading.
Oh! Thanks. That does sound like a better behavior.
This solves one important problem. If you press on an app and it is slow to come up, you might think you did not make proper contact and may be inclined to press again. This solves that problem.

Seems like Precentral is trying to replicate, if not surpass, the amount of traffic they received on the 15th if you ask me. Yes, the 15th, the date in which they received tons of hits on the site, based on a "leaked screenshot". More traffic means more money from advertisers :-). The update will drop whenever it does, I'm tired of speculating.
