webOS 1.3 to hit GSM Pre phones by end of month

webOS 1.3.1The chaps over at PalmInfocenter have heard from O2 that webOS 1.3 (we assume that O2 meant 1.3.1) will be coming to GSM Palm Pre phones by the end of November, presumably alongside the same update for the CDMA Pre you can get on Sprint and Bell. Currently the CDMA version of the phone sports a 1.2.1 operating system.

We don’t have any confirmation, but it’s also been rumored/wished that the App Catalog will be rolled out in force to the whole world instead of having paid apps limited to just the United States. But if wishes were horse then we’d, well, we’d have a lot of horses. So take heart, our European friends languishing in the strange and unfamiliar land of webOS 1.1.3, soon your troubles will be ended and some of those horses will be taken off of your hands. Three cheers for parity!

yeah! :)

My GSM Pre is ready to rumble :)

Derek: O2 definitely said "1.3", but I made the same assumption that he meant 1.3.1. ;)

I have a German Pre, but i use the WebOS from Bell wich is on 1.2.1 at the moment, do i still get the 1.3.1 update at 15.11 or do i need to wait till "end of Nov"?

That is very much an unknown.

I predict that Sprint will delay 1.3.1 until after the Pixi is released.

I think the've lost that loving feeling for the Pre with more smart phones coming out.

my pre cant get it yet and i am on bell's network . it says that, your phone is up to date. when can i get it. hmm

I don't believe it's been released yet. The post states WILL be released by the end of November not WAS released.

We've been waiting patiently for 1.3.1 here in the UK, another couple of (potentially) weeks wait is fine. I'm more interested in when Palm or after market providers are going to release some more Touchstone devices, like a proper in car charger.

@Mel0ne: i've bought too a German Pre and i would be interested in installing 1.2 WebOS from Bell or Sprint. Any guide about this? Will HDSPA works anyway?
Thanks in advance, Luca

If only there was a way to reply to a comment without creating a new comment and typing @name. Wait...

I have no problem with my device or the german network here, i istalled the Bell version (with webos quick install), if you need detailed help just give me some kind of im adress over email (melonenluder[at]hotmail.com)

"GSM phone" means what, exactly? (Sorry for being dumb!)

It's a mobile phone standard. There are two main types of mobile phone standards, GSM, and CDMA. In the US, Sprint and Verizon run CDMA networks, and AT&T and T-Mobile run GSM networks.

Some people want the Pre, but want to use it on AT&T or T-Mobile. Since Palm has not released a GSM version of the Pre in the US, people have to import a GSM version from another country.

Hope that helps.

Is there any way of downloading 1.3.1 without having to wait for palm and o2 to pull their finger out. I am a disgruntled GSM user based in the uk and feel very ignored! Everything is geared towards the US customers.
I waited 9 months for this phone only to be cheated from the outset. :(

P.s - this website is truly amazing... All the apps and patches that you guys make is astounding. Keep up the good work!
Palm should take note as I think they should not be followers but pioneers in making the very best software...
