Less than a week after webOS 1.2.0 landed, Palm has started pushing out webOS 1.2.1 to Palm Pre owners nationwide. As rumored, webOS 1.2.1 fixes iTunes sync support, as well as fixing the seriously borked Exchange support that webOS 1.2 brought. The whole update weighs in at 38 MB and is available for download now through the Updates app on your phone. Palm's official (and brief) changelog is posted after the break.

Resolved an issue where after installing the 1.2.0 webOS update some customers running Exchange 2007 could no longer synchronize with their Exchange account for Email, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks.

- Resolves an issue preventing media sync from working with latest version of iTunes (9.0.1).
- Media sync now synchronizes photo albums, maintaining the album structure in the Photos app.

does anyone know if i should uninstall my keyboard b4 updating or if it's ok to just install 1.2.1
I removed the virtual keyboard before updating, and now I can't add it back on after 1.2.1. When I open Preware, the only option I have for the keyboard is "Remove." If I click "Remove" it says "error removing." Anyone else having this problem?
I had a similar problem, I downloaded the keyboard, install failed, and while preware thinks its installed it isnt. So when it looks for the keyboard patch it says "Downloaded" but when u try to uninstall it its not their. Anyway, I solved my problem by deleting preware and then re-installing. I hope this helped!

LED notifications ARE enabled by default now it seems.
I didn't take the LED patch off when I updated to 1.2.1 and I noticed my LED notifications where still in working order. I didn't have the toggle on/off button however on the Screen/Lock preferences page. So I deleted the patch and then restarted my phone. LED notification's still work meaning that they are on by default now it seems.

It's likely that the file that was patched to show the state of LED notifications in the screen and lock preferences was overwritten by the patch - which is why you should uninstall ALL patches before doing an update - not just the virtual keyboard.
I removed patches, installed the update, then reinstalled the patches via preware. LED notification is working and the switch in the right place and working.

Any news how tweaks are doing with this update yet?

- add/delete launcher pages
- 4x4 icons (version 2)
- battery percentage and icon
- led notifications
They seem to work correctly

I already had my company's Exchange 2007 admin make the changes Palm published to fix the issue using the no password required solution option. Has anyone done the same -and- upgraded to 1.2.1 that can confirm it still works?

As I posted on a previous forum. After I ran the last update of 1.2 and breaking the phone where sprint had to over night me a new (refurb) Pre. I pray that is update dose not do the same. I have yet apply any patches to the new Pre but I do miss them!! :(
Application limit is still there. Can't install/update official apps.

My tweaks work fine and have never broke. For that fact nothing has broken. I am using OSQI 2.03. All I do on an update is unclick the tweaks and remove the keyboard. Luna and Services are left alone. After I have to reinstall the tweaks, keyboard and theme. I hope this helps.
Anyone else having problems with the download "not validating?" I've restarted and re-downloaded about 10 times
I'm brand new to this whole thing. I can't even figure out how to use it after it's downloaded on my phone. I feel like a moron. Any ideas???
I am having the same issue with "validating". So, it seems to download and right at the end I get an error message with not being able to validate, so I am still at 1.2. I even reseted my phone before attempting to download,but still got the same Not Validating message.
When am I goin' to be able to forwart texts!
Validating went fine for me I even did multiple Luna restarts during d/l.
Has anyone noticed a better signal. Sprint is now 1.9. I think mine is better.
My phone just does not want to find new updates right now I guess.
Anyone else having an issue with the email app malfunctioning? I have noticed since 1.2 and now 1.2.1 that I am now getting an error sending message with a yellow triangle, and emails are not sent, they are stuck in the outbox. I have yahoo mail as my default client. I even tried sending an email through gmail and I get the same "error sending message". It does attempt to resend but nothing happens.
no problems w/ gmail or exchange here, 1.2.1.
That'll happen if your signal is weak. Try WiFi. If that fails, reboot your phone. Good luck.

I have had the same issue with Yahoo email. Gmail syncs fine. I followed the previous posts suggestions; turned off the WiFi on the phone and then the Yahoo email synced fine. (All this with using WebOS 1.2.1.
that happened to me when I did a partial erase. Just remove the yaoo account from the phone and re-enter it again and it should work.
If you have wi-fi connection in your house try connecting that way. But where is the app catalog? Thats is my question...maybe later today : ) I am happy again
This whole itunes thing is getting ridiculous. Why didn't Palm just do what BB does and stop playing this stupid cat and mouse game (not to mention they lost. I don't know why they though forging ipod headers was going to get them anywhere).
at the very least, they should have allowed some kind of on the go playlist capabilities. Their phone seems so crippled as a media player. The speed of the iphone has always been a huge plus, even against preloaded apps.
Because Blackberry did it wrong. There is no reason for a retail outlet to favor any device over any other.
To make a clumsy physical media/brick and mortar analogy, it would be wrong for media purchased at Best Buy to work seemlessly in Best Buy-branded media players, assuming, for this analogy, that Best Buy is the leading retailer by a wide margin.
Oh sure, you are able to play them in other companies' media players: all you need is a simple adapter. Of course no one would want to deal with that "simple" adapter and would buy the Best Buy-branded media players.
DoubleTwist, Media Monkey, et al is the not so simple "simple" adapter. For the average person who shops at iTunes (I am not one of them) it makes no sense to buy anything other than an iPod.
THIS is what Palm is challenging and why they are in the right.
You may be right, but I'd still rather Palm didn't "force" me to use iTunes in order for the Pre to support iTunes. I use Windows Media Player (and I'll never install iTunes) so I can't sync music to my Pre natively because WMP thinks it's an iPod. Instead, I have to work around the problem and manually copy files to it as if it were a USB drive. Even then, I can't import playlists because my Pre only supports iTunes style playlists, not industry standard playlists.
I can appreciate the fact that Palm is trying to keep their devices compatible with the leading digital audio store and make life easier for those customers, but they are making life MORE difficult for their customers that don't (and won't) use iTunes. It seems that in their quest to fight the evils of Apple's model they have hurt other stores and made people less likely to choose iTunes alternatives.
Hopefully Palm will add support for the stores and programs I like to use in the future.

open up the admin console on your wifi router, then, on your pre, go to Device Info > More Info > Hardware. Make sure the wireless router is recongizing your Pre's MAC address

My router is set only to allow the mac addreses I have inputed, the pre being one of them. I have no problem surfing or doing anything else via wifi except for sending email. I receive email from all 3 accounts just fine. I don't know if yahoo may have changed something with a new update to their mobile app I noticed a few days ago.
I have had the same problem. Palm and Yahoo are aware and they posted in a few places that they are working on the issue. It started happening when 1.2 came out and Yahoo "upgraded" their e-mail program. Not sure whos fault it is really. I was hoping 1.2.1 was going to fix that too.
Thanks for the info. I also noticed the problem since 1.2 and the yahoo upgrade. Yahoo added an "R" to the smtp line I believe.
The problem is your ISP not allowing outgoing mail through third-party mail servers. Contact your ISP or stick to cellular data.
It is not just an issue when using my ISP. It happens while I am not home whether or not I am roaming. I did not have the problem berfore 1.2 and my ISP has not changed.
the update is cool. it was funny waking up and going online to see that 1.2.1 was released. but it sucked downloading it, and not having paid apps yet
My Exchange e-mail worked fine after the 1.2 update, but now that I updated to 1.2.1, it says my password does not meet credentials! I've tried syncing on and off wifi, I've reset my password, I even deleted my account off the Pre and set it up again. Same error. This is very frustrating as I receive extremely time sensative e-mails for work. Ughh.. this is the first time the Pre has not worked flawlessly for me. Any suggestions, I'm desperate?
Did you try changing your username to your full email address? That fixed it for me.
exchange now working but it requires I put a lock on my phone which I don't want. Does anyone know a way around this. I don't have an option to turn it off, only change the pin.
Talk to your IT admin (not bloody likely) or downgrade to 1.1. Thems the breaks.
My Pre has updated itself THREE times within the last few days, each time ending up at 1.2.0 !

I use exchange and didn't have any problems with 1.2.0.
there is a post with info about all the tweaks, in short the patches available through Preware all work except "messaging new line" and "message sounds" but the "sounds and alerts" work...
What is the update on the paid apps? They were going to drop yesterday, then not even a follow up article or mention of another delay from this "tipster" that's now gone 0/2? This "tipster" is startin to get on my nerves!

Doesn't look like the update is out for Canadians as yet... Maybe later on today? The 1.2.0 update wasn't available for me right away either. It came out a few hours after it was available to Sprint customers.
anyone having a problem after the 1.2.1 update the pre goes into airplane mode by itself.
I think we had the same problem. My phone was showing "phone offline", so I took it to the sprint store because I could not place or receive calls. They couldn't figure it out and told me to return it to the store I purchased it from because it was within the 30 days. However before I did that I went to device info and under reset options, a full erase. I lost almost everything I had installed on the phone, but not everything! I also copied what I needed to another folder on my pc. After the full erase the phone is fine.
For non-exchange users, would it even be worth it to upgrade? Don't see any real benefits from 1.2.1 (other than if you use MediaSyncnig and Exchange). Can anyone note of any other things that were added?

i dont have my laptop with me and updated to 1.2.0 with my tweaks and it works fine..but im scared that if i update to 1.2.1 will do anything, again i already updated to 1.2.0 and works fine and i dont have my laptop to remove my tweaks...do you think i should try it..?
why does the picture show the battery and then the percent without clicking on the top bar? Can i do this without hacks?
No - it's a patch. Hopefully Webos QI will be updated soon (if it hasn't already) and you can get it the easy way.

I may sound like simple simon here but what are you all considering "tweaks"? things you did through hacking the phone? or does this include anything not palm issued like homebrew applications?
Your Homebrew apps are fine....it's just things that change the internals files that can (not will) cause problems.
Still nothing for us Bell users. No EAS for us i suppose. Spoke to Palm support and after explaining several times that I can not make the server-side change, their solution was to make a change on the server (?). He wouldnt even give me a straight answer about 1.2.1 for Bell - its on palms site for sprint, but not bell.... GRRR
That is so upsetting, especially considering the supposed security updates that are included in 1.2.1. Is palm basically saying anyone outside the US is a second-class user? Why will paid apps only launch in the states? Why is the update only available to some users?
Any ideas on how I can get the tweaks to work on my pre. I updated the software and now I can't get my tweaks to re-install from the webos quick install. How can I get them to work again?
where or when will yahoo be added to the I.M. Acounts that can be added to the messaging app? They added linked in into email so why the delay on yahoo?? Also what's up with not being able to end a call in conference mode?? Also still no flash player support? Skyfire is able to so why not palm? When are changes like these coming? How is it Pixi is rumored to have yahoo synergy but not the Pre? Its pissing me OFF.
Help!! My Pre updated to 1.21 just fine, but my fiancee's just sits on the update screen and doesn't change! When I updated her phone to 1.20, it did the thing where it made her sign in to her Palm profile and reset all her data. Anybody else having this issue?

Before installing the update, I went to remove my tweaks...I usually do them one at a time and give the phone a chance to reset. For some reason, I didn't this time and the phone froze at the "Palm" screen - no blinking just sits there. WebOS Doctor can't access it.
Any Ideas? Please Help!
