WebOS 1.2 Accidentally Leaked!

go4craig in our Palm Pre Forums has just posted that he applied the webOS Doctor (the 'last resort' method for getting your Pre back to factory standard) and, wonder of wonders, it installed webOS 1.2 for him. Guess what - same thing happened for forum member Leathal.

One of the new features the ability to enter your account information in the App Catalog - which isn't surprising given that we're expecting Palm to take the App Catalog into for-pay land sometime this month. That should also mean that 1.2 could potentially become available this month.

Also exciting, a new "Select all" option under the edit menu - the edit menu on the browser, meaning maybe, just maybe, we might be getting improved copy / paste functionality. Also - changes in location services that appear to resolve our complaints by giving us finer-grained control over how our location is tracked. You can also turn data usage on and off.

Both he and angrygoose managed to grab "(Build Sprint.100.166 08/30/09 08:03)" of the webOS Doctor, but the version that's up now is (Build Sprint.76.143 07/24/09 19:44), so if it was a leak, it was short-lived.

Update: Just spoke with Craig and it seems clear that this was an accidental leak from Palm via the vector described above.  The browser does seem much improved (zoom animation) and there are little tweaks throughout.  We hope this should hit officially soon!

Update 2: As tends to happen with these things, the 1.2 leak is out there on the internets. People, we strongly recommend you don't apply this to your Pre. If you do, the Pre may try to download / install the 1.1 update and then apply it if you're not careful -- a process which, for go4craig at least, caused some serious bricked phone action.

Update 3: Type to find within the email app is working - searches contacts and subjects at least, emails sadly not included in Universal Search. This thread is the place to check for everything that's new in 1.2.

Update 4: nullity points out that saving images from the browser now works.

We have a few more of his screenshots after the break! Thanks for the tip, Alex!

someone should accidently leak a megaupload link to us

I'm sure it'll be out in the next few days- and if that's the case, is it really worth resetting everything to defaults for?

You don't have to USE WebDoctor to load it. You can use the files in it to rewrite the hacks we currently have enabled on the new version, before it is officially released.

I am guessing in October before the HTC HERO is aion kinah then they will update the software with all the features we want then and it will be the rumored 2.0. Just my aion healing
.

I have yet to own a phone with this kind of fast support. This will be like the 3rd ROM update I've gotten since June. I used to update my ROM like that on WM but that was because I liked to cook new ones all the time. This kind of support is great to see and gives me hope that they are really taking the platform seriously. You don't see any of the kind of stuff you do with other companies waiting until the release of a new iteration to introduce new incremental features.

Neo,

I so TOTALLY agree. As an old WinMo user, I am really rather stoked (sorry for all the '80's skater lingo) that Palm keeps rolling out updates. It also makes me wonder why people keep saying things aren't moving fast enough. I'm sure you remember how long it took to get from WM5 to WM6 and 6.1 and now Finally 6.5 ugh.

For those of you who don't want to look at the wiki, it was 14 months just to get that 0.1 upgrade.

3rd... Not like you can even go buy a copy of WM6.5 if you wanted to update your phone "legally."

You go Neo!

I need a towel

Lmao!

Yeah, I love these updates too! Im an iphone user but I lovvvve the pre:)

Hope WebOS 1.2 is action packed. I get to order my Pre on 09/19/09 and I am hoping they would have added some of the missing functionlity I get from my Samsung Instinct. Like visual voicemail and vido recording. That alone will give the appearance of stepping backwards. I have been following the forums and most major sites dedicated to Palm pre since January. And I am hoping Palm steps up in a big way. With regard to build quality, Apps, App catalogue and functionality. Hopefully if they do release a 16 gig Pre in October, I hope it will land before my 30 day's run out so I may procure it. Very psyched about getting my pre though. Palm please step up your game!

Here is hoping WebOs 1.2 delivers in a huge way.

It will have neither of your software requests nor another hardware version. If it had, they would have reported it.

As usual, this looks like another mostly behind-the-scenes patch-and-enhance type of release.

Of course, ANY update that improves anything is always welcome.

@ crxssi
Do you have an inside scoop or something? As to your reply to my requests being included in WebOS 1.2? Forwarding text's, video and picturemail, LED notification, and the like are basic in most phones needless to say smart phones. My Samsung Instinct, my wifes Samsung Rant, and a sanyo I had about 3 years ago have these features. So why would Pre not get these in an update? If you know something official that we don't know, please share.

I don't know anything official, I was being snub/sarcastic. Sorry. I need to take a chill-pill sometimes.

I'm guessing you can't order until 9/19 because of the discount. When I went to the Sprint store to get my Pre a week ago, the guy told me that they would give you the discounted price if you were within 30 days of your 1 year date. So, I waited 30 days too long to get my Pre :(

Any word about official Virtual Keyboard, wide angle mode of chats and emails? Anyone know the official fixes?

yep, in great need of that keyboard, ..actual keyboard keys are way too small 4 my thumbs

Hope that the UI is faster.... Terribly slow and currently very frustrating

I completely Agree.. its SOOO sluggish

+1, me too, or whatever the current internet meme is for total agreement.

i think it's /agree

Its one of those things. All women named Esther have hairlips and all guys named Aonymous are clueless and think their phones suck.

Wow, I thought it was fake because there was 90% battery after an install.....just kidding.

I'm anxious to see whats all included.

Is there a camcorder feature?, etc.

its been said that palm is releasing the video capability thru the apps catalog. perhaps itll show up there....relax ppl its coming soon..

"its been said that palm is releasing the video capability thru the apps catalog". Really... Who said that?? To my understanding, the video capability will be released in a firmware upgrade. Just like the camera app, I am sure Palm wants the video app to be embedded in the Rom.

lol @ battery rip

Video anyone??!! Please? Palm.... please.... video would be incredibly nice to have... right now. :-) I thought it would be webOS 1.2 that released video. But maybe we'll have to wait for webOS 2.0... :-(

Do we have to remove all tweaks?????

Depends on what you risk level is. If you are OK with a partial failed upgrade that requires you to reload with WebOS doctor, then no.

Will someone who has gotten their hands on this new release, please open up the .jnlp file from which they invoked the WebOSDoctor download. It's simply a text file which has both the URL and filename of the 200 meg .JAR file. Release that, and we can all get our hands on this release and start testing it against the Palm Emulator.

What if I don't want to selecet all the web text!

there is no reason to think that you have to select all the web text. The main thing is that web images and uneditable text is capable of being selected. thank you Palm. now release it this evening.

There better be more updates than this or palm is going down the drain!

Please not that same old line!

c'mon palm took 1 step forward and 5 steps back. How can a phone be considered a smartphone with lack of business/essential tools? (Voice Recorder, Task manager that actually works/usuable, Video Camera, fast phone app (instead of one that is slow and doesn't hang up the first time you click on the end call button), etc...I can go on forever! They need to give us out tools back that was in their previous models instead of starting over!

Your statements don't include anything that the Pre completely blows away the Treos on. It is lose some and gain a bunch. It really sounds like you should never be an early adopter.

What's the value of multitask if it can't do anything? Oh look, another restaurant! The cloud sucks, develop a terrestrial synch. Synch was the founation of Palm.

The cloud is the only reason I and others will even bother paying for 3G. It is the whole point of the phone.

You can synch over your Serial Hostync Cradle, but the rest of us are living in a different century. I get seamless integration between my desktop, my netbook and my phone with no effort whatsoever on my part. Moreover, the Pre looks much better sitting on a Touchstone than it does in a cradle. I am wondering if it might be worth it to get a bluetooth->3.5mm adapter so I can listen to music on my headphones or speakers wirelessly.

I have ten years of Palm Data that cannot be put out on the cloud for Google to "security lapse" over. I may be in last century, my data does go beyond 1999, but I'm not some Johnny-come-lately that thinks it's cool he can put the phone numbers to the pizza place and that cute girl at work that finally said "hi" back out on the net and not be concerned about the implications for my employer and clients.

There are two type of Pre customers, "us" the ones that a professionals that have kept Palm alive to this point. And there are "you", the iphone generation that think a phone is about video clips and synching mp3s.

I've got a lot of money and time in the "company formerly known as Palm" and I know most Treo professionals are a half step from walking out the door, at a point in time when the "former apple employee rebel alliance Palm" needs them most. So respect the need if you want to keep Palm viable, we'll adopt the cloud when it runs cleanly and securely.

Fuck you old man, nobody cares about how afraid you are of the future. The cloud is safe, get a new diaper and relax the fuck up.

Too bad you ruined your argument by being so rude and fou-l mouthed.

And, there are lots of situations where storing info "on the cloud" is not appropriate, safe, or in my case even legal. Have you read Google docs TOS? Sorry, I could lose everything, my income and everything else by ising such a service.

Your world and mine are not the same. I think it's best not to be too judgemental of others situations.

Gibson, clearly nobody has trusted you with any assets of consequence. So keep working on your colorful vocabulary while professionally pumping high test into my sports car. And when you're done with your next tourettes seizure, check the fornicating oil.

Way to hit back with the insightful commentary. You really clinched the argument. Pretty lame, that you cannot accept that some people have higher standards than you. Remember when the sidekick site got hacked and some people's contact list, photos, etc, became public knowledge? Businesses and many individuals don't want to take that risk.

If you're willing to take that risk, more power to you. But it's beyond silly to take the stance you're taking.

Gibson was way out of line. But I giggle every time I read it. :D

I laughed too. I can see Lil Gibby showing up at a gunfight armed with a harmonica and a kazoo stuffed in his sock. Quite the gangsta.

It was disappointing though that he didnt have anything constructive to say about ground synch or the cloud. Silly Nooob.

this thread is a few days old now, but i couldn't let it die the way it did...

the argument of whether pro users or consumers are more important is TOTALLY irrelevant. EcoTrollHunter and all his 35-55 year old buddies are a minority in the market. young people (students and those fresh in their career's) are buying more electronics than ever. the folks making these gadgets have no other choice if they're going to stay profitable. i know everyone has been following the Pixi news; that thing has less features/functionality than the Pre does and even more fluff. designer battery covers? puh-leez! and Troll, your argument about loyalty? there isn't a single company who could care less how much money you've spent in the past. they only care about how much you'll spend in the future. look at Apple; they have completely abandoned the creative pros that sustained them for the past 15 years. one example: they dropped matte screens on the MBPs and instead make colorful, consumer grade, disposable stocking stuffers. the lesson here? we can either learn to use the tools available or get left behind.

NOW. if anyone is going to rip on EcoTrollHunter, they could start by telling him that he's lost his mind if he trusts having such sensitive data on a mobile device. like no one's ever hacked a Treo before?? and is the cloud perfect? nope. but i guarantee your sweet, home office doesn't have the level of backups or security that Google does.

people, we're all talking about fallible tech here. for those of us who have made a living depending on it, we have to be a bit more careful than the average user. the rest of you can enjoy the bliss of only being down a few hundred bucks when your phone blows up. regardless, there's a place for all of us in the market; let's just try and remember that no single product can possibly make everyone happy.

and let's try to get along, too.

give it a rest, you create code from scratch if you do not think palm is moving fast enough.

Hmm, looks good. Yea I'm with OneDeep... Do we only get to select whole web pages?! Thats nothing I really want.. But definitely wana to see a little optimization, making things a little more faster, possible visual voicemail, and MORE rotation for the standard apps! Not too crazy over the virtual keyboard yet... maybe by years end. Vid cam?!! =\

I can live without Visual Voicemail and even video recording (a feature I really want). At this point just please fix some of the fundamental issues with the Pre.

  • Battery Life
  • SLOW calendar
  • Ability to forward texts (yes I know about & use the tweak but shouldn't have too)
  • LED notification
  • custom alert tones for SMS, MMS, etc

Fix those issues first Palm PLEASE!!! I should still say KUDOS PALM for pushing so many OS updates so quickly. How long did it take before the iPhone, WinMO and Blackberry phones got updates?!?!?!

Hey man, yea, I def agree with that SLOW calendar.. that's a MAJOR gripe for me. I thought it's suppose to make scheduling ang things easier.. NOT when I have to sit and wait to check my schedule for events or add something. DEF need to update. No word of that as supposed update for 1.2 tho man...

The cloud calendar is on servers in Mumbai.

What a wonderful place to store our personal data. If this is correct, then it means that Palm contracted out the cloud servers and maintenance to a 3rd party vendor. Nice.

He's clearly annoyed at the idea of the cloud in general (see posts above) and just bitching. He has no idea where the Palm data is stored.

So, where do you think a cash strapped company is contracting when no other competition has this expense and Palm is trying to be the value king? Read my posts. The cloud is fine. The calendar app sucks, security is marginal, but the concept is sound and needs to be refined. But the need continues for a ground based synch for Palms veteran customers. Some things can't be trusted to Google, Palm or their 3rd party contractors.

The slow calendar performance is probably my number one issue. I can wait for other things be improved but it makes it really difficult to use the Pre for business when it takes soooo long just to flip a few days forward in my calendar.

While I'm definitely NOT saying that "buy an aftermarket extended battery" is the right answer, I've got to say that I recently got the 2600 Sensio extended battery and it's been nothing short of amazing....

The last three days, after two full recharge cycles, I've left both wi-fi and Bluetooth on all day (about 9am to 11pm)... I keep the screen at full brightness all the time... I used my phone I'd say moderately (roughly 6 calls, around 5 minutes a piece... maybe 10 text message sent and another 10 received... probably a total of about 40 minutes surfing the web, playing music for the 20-minute drive to and from work). By 11pm, my battery was a hair OVER 50% :) As compared to the stock battery, where I'd have been charging at maybe 2pm (if I was lucky), that's amazing.

I mean, yes, it's an $80 purchase I shouldn't have to make, and yes, it makes the phone a bit bigger (not crazy-big to me), but it's a huge improvement that people should know about... if I'd have been even a little conservative I suspect I could go two full days without much problem.

49.10 @ amazon, free shipping, no tax!

> LED notification

No, we need *audible* reminder alerts for missed notifications. The LED blinking will not help most people. Of course, having *both* options would be best.

Yes. Vibe and audio alert. And the ability to customize said audio alert.

People complaining about the calendar, how do you have yours set up? Are you using Google Calendar or your Palm Profile?

I had it tied to my Google, Exchange, Facebook and the Palm profile. Your question just made me think about it. I just turned off Facebook and Google and it seems to be a bit faster. Thanks.

I am pretty selective about which sub-calendars show up, and removing fbcal (brings facebook birthdays into gcal) sped up my calendar by a ridiculous amount. Seems to me that the problem is how many calendars need to be synced, so I make do with google essential sub-calendars (mine, my gf's, weather), and palm. And I guess Flight-view, for the flights that I've added, although I usually convert those to google, too, so my gf can see them.

+1 and BINGO!!

Finally people are realizing it's NOT the phone!! It's your USE that is causing the slowness. I'll paraphrase myself here quickly, but *adding* 3-4 calendars to your OUTLOOK DESKTOP has the same effect. Aggregating so much data takes time. Select a single calendar on your Pre (i.e. the one needed) and switch to the others using the menu bar up top.

All info still at your finger tips without the lag (5 min benchmarking revealed 3.278 seconds average)

Think about it, you have 4 distinct calendars (some "cloud") trying to update and refresh instantly? Try the above and be happy with your Pre...Love your Pre!. :)

If you use multiple calendars as a sore substitute for the categories that are missing from the Pre, then you have no option than to leave open 3+ calendars.

Also, with the data stored in the phone's memory, you would think it wouldn't take long to open up if it's not automatically syncing with the Google servers.

New Card option also seems to suggest the new card browser shortcut they took out of 1.1 might be back.

The new card option isn't anything new

It was gone. If it's back, that may not be new, but it's definitely newS.

It was gone. If it's back, that may not be new, but it's definitely newS.

http://discussion.treocentral.com/palm-pre/199417-bell-commercial-reveal...

Seems here (unofficial) that text forwarding, video recording, notification sound customization are among the updates! YES!!! I LOVE PALM!!!!

I read the thread but don't see where you got this part?

CAnt wait. i am so happy i love this phone.

Oh sweet new copy and paste fuctionality...
WHAT YOU REQUEST YOU GET

Um, the Pre could always copy and paste. This just adds a (probably useless) way to select all for a copy, instead of having to highlight everything when you want everything.

v

I had the same problem and did a factory reset on my phone using web os doctor and all is back to normal now :)

Haha. My Pre was so slow today that the phone application could not open up and answer the call (after pressing the green accept button) that the call went to voice mail.

Do 'ya think 1.2 will fix that :)

This is my #1 complaint about the phone. And man, I hope it gets fixed soon!

yes! the 'phone app' on this device is by far, the absolute worst phone dialer i have ever used. missing a call because the app couldnt parse the input for GREEN BUTTON.. sucks, really sucks.

Prepare for the impending avalanche of "I can't believe they didn't include ________ in 1.2" posts. :)

I cannot agree with the two posters saying the UI is slow. Do not experience those issues, and my Pre is quite fast.

Restart your phone daily!!! or at least more often then you are and you wont have those slowness issues..

I restart daily and have no slowness problems. That brings me to one of the things I think Palm needs to address and that is Boot time. It takes at least three minuets or more just to restart the phone which has to be the longes boot time of any phone on the market.

You evidently did not migrate from Windows Mobile. Restart time on my MDA was a good 10 minute process, while my Pre takes about 2 minutes to do a full restart. I'll take the Pre's restart time any day.

Apparently that is something they addressed in this update.

Well hopefully they will fix the problem with GPS that I have been having ever since the last WebOS update. Sprint Navigation barely works now and the Google Maps takes a long time to locate the phone. Even when it locates the phone, it is usually way off compared to before the 1.1 update.

Wonder if that "select all" in the browser will lead Evernote to update their app. I dig saving entire pages to Evernote.

they need to update the bluetooth so that it can do more than just connect to a bluetooth headset, i want to transfer info from a blackberry(friends phone) to my pre and connect bluetooth to the Playstation 3 to transfer music and video. need an easier way to forward texts and save music and video texts to the phone.

Ok, just to make it easier for everyone else that posts, feel free to use this template for future posts.

Palm ( ) sucks ( ) blows ( ) will fail because they aren't paying attention to ( ) their customers ( ) their competition ( ) african rain dances. They are never going to suceede because they don't support ( ) businesses ( ) consumers, as is evidenced by their lack of .

You can add on additional lines as well, but this can give you a good start on your rant.

Personally I just laugh at all the idiots that think that the features they are missing the most are the ones that should be fixed first without any regard to any other features. :)

LoL another annoying anonymous pinapple "fun" boy.

Ask Pinaple if they listen people. At least Palm does it moron.

Jealous

get that guy outta here

This might not be new, but I went to updates and it automatically updated some of the applications I have on the phone. Like bubble, speedbrain opentable.

Has anyone else had this?

Jeff

yes they update games and old apps all the time JEFF

Not just games. Spaz and Yelp also updated.

Where are the IM client updates???

1.2 should be in by tonight ppl its got video Rec and many other good stuff just wait and see

Well i don't think they will release this update until next week and i doubt they will have the these features. I am guessing in October before the HTC HERO is released then they will update the software with all the features we want then and it will be the rumored 2.0. Just my opinion.

The leaked update isn't worth installing, just so you know.

If I installed mods on my phone (added launcher page), will it mess up when I install the 1.2 update?

yeah the leaked update is not the full update they are just bits of the full 1.2

That's what I was thinking/hoping

Spaz and Yelp were also updated today.

OBEX?

I wish I could like or mod up comments. The addition of this simple BT profile would like double the (already quite high) usefulness of this phone to me.

I hope the Virtual Keyboard is in 1.2

Yes, unless you uninstall them there is a good chance something will go wrong.

Here's the WebOSDoctor jar I used. It SHOULD have 1.2 in it.
megaupload dot com /?d=3TH1CAKN

I seriously hope they don't ever include email searching as part of universal search. I feel like that would total make universal search useless. I would never be able to type a contact without getting an email they sent me? If you have multiple people with the same name would it list their name along with all of the emails they sent you? Then if you want to call the second person with that name you have to scroll all the way past the first person's emails until you can click on them to call? I hope not.

I seriously hope that they don't implement this or if they do, allow it to be an option that you can disable. Or maybe I am just missing how people are envisioning it being implemented.

bpdamas, TOTALLY agree. if people are complainin about slowness now..? O_o that will do nothing but make it even slower, as it pulls emails, apps and contacts with your entry.

I just prefer the update the email client, add some select boxes , and add the search function right at the top of that particular email; add it to the main email page as well to search all folders (and if no one knew: you can use the pinch-method to open emails right in the list-view; try it)

Totally

I don't have the slowness issues either. Mine is faster that poop through a goose. Is there a speed reduction for poeple with too many apps? Also, is the hardware capable of LED notification? I miss that.

where would that LED notification come from? I dont see any LED type LED's on the phone, unless you talking about the little white button on the action part of the phone. If thats the case your already there and probably have the phone on, JUST LOOK AT THE SCREEN. Do you really need a flashing light to let you know that there is a message waiting for you? You must not use the phone that much, here is my suggestion, return the phone and get one that flashes HELLO YOU HAVE A MESSAGE WAITING FOR YOU and forget about the endless possibilities this phone has to offer other than a stupid blinking light. If you want blinking lights download the binary clock and stare at the phone for a couple of hours maybe you'll have a seizure and stop ranting about stupid blinking lights.

sorry, Im just tired of the wishes by people that have nothing to do with the unlimited capabilities of this phone. For example my big wish is to be able to open a contact and click on their address and have it pull up in one of the awesome GPS programs that are available. or when I set a meeting in my calender with the location of the meeting and when its time to drive to said meeting click on the location and have it pull up one of the awesome gps programs available and tell me the directions. right now I cant even copy and paste it into the gps program, I have to manually type it in there. So maybe a good start would be to have a universal cut and paste on "anything" that contains text.

Whoa there buddy!!! The guy has a point. When the Pre is on the touchtone and you receive an email or miss call, you don't know that you have such nonfictions until or unless you activate the phone and look at the screen. If the light blinked while on the touchstone to indicate you have missed calls or new messages - that indeed, would be a very welcome feature enhancement to the phone.

oh but it does show that you have a missed call, email, text message, etc. it has a box that show up across the screen telling you what it is and shows some detail. I use my touchstone and phone as my alarm clock, I tossed my real one in the trash, and in the middle of the night i see all kinds of stuff i have received, not to mention the blaring time of 3:30 staring me in the face. Oh I forgot to mention that I turn my phone to silent every night. I do find it cool that the phone does a little ring ring when somebody calls and its on silent on the touchstone. Try all of it out it will amaze you.

Yes, it would be welcomed, but I, personally, don't want to have to freaking LOOK at the phone every time I pass it to make sure I didn't miss anything.

SOLUTION: AUDIBLE NAG!!!!

You got a real attitude problem. Seriously. Get some help.

Yes, the Pre has several LED's on the front, including the center button.

However, as I have said over and over.... LED notifications are *useless* to the majority of people. If you didn't hear the first notification, a blinky light isn't going to help all that much.

What is needed is an *audible*, repeating reminder (nag) for missed notifications. We shouldn't have to constantly worry that we missed the SINGLE chime and have to keep looking at the phone all the time.

This is *NOT* something advanced. MOST phones out there support an audible nag. Even brain-dead pagers (remember those) do it. I am missing lots of important texts because I didn't hear the ONE chirp. Plus, adding nag support is not rocket science.

Hi, I am in violent agreement with you! I was a treo user and am amazed that neither the iPhone nor the Blackberry seem to support meeting nags, and even more amazed that none of the users or Apple spokesmen I talk to care at all about such a feature! It seems that we are expected to compulsively check our phones for missed alerts.

What phones/ operating systems do support repeating alerts? You must mean windows moblie devices. I dislike those.

I wouldn't use audible notifications much, but I could see how they would be useful. I'm usually in class and and leave my phone on silent, usually in my pocket. I'll glance at it once in a while to see if I've missed anything via a solid light on the LED using AttnGrab.

But, as with so many things, it would be nice to have the option.

geez i hope this happens tonight

Does the Pre get slower over time? Kind of like my 755p did? I just got my Pre on Tuesday. I see all the posts about the calendar and phone being sluggish, but my Pre handles both smoothly and faster than I could ever ask a computer to be. I haven't had the time to install any Homebrew yet...could Homebrew be the problem?

Secondly, I followed these forums daily since Feb 09. With all the negativity I was hesitant to get the Pre. I agree there are some fixes in order and a few missing features. That is why constructive criticism is healthy in these forums. But, WOW, the features this phone does have and the overall enjoyment I get out of using this phone have blown me away!

I don't know what slowness people talk about. I don't have any issues with the speed on my pre. I have downloaded tons of apps and that hasn't slowed my phone. I do accept that there is a lot that can be improved but this phone already does wonders. It's the first generation and therefore not perfect. Let's just be patient and wait for this phone to be even better.

My daughter and I have been Palm users from the beginning. We both loved the Centro and thought the Pre would be even better. We both got Pre's the 1st week out. We both came to the same conclusion by the 6th week. the phone and calendar are terrible and not easy to use. we both decided separately to go with Blackberry Tour and are much happier with them.Palm made a big mistake as far as I am concerned by going away from the Palm desktop format. It became almost impossible to create tasks and appointments since I did not use Google or Outlook. and converting over created havoc. Driving and trying to use the Pre became a nightmare. I might switch in the future, but a use my i-touch for what the Pre excelled at.

why are you driving and trying to use your phone at the same time? Even if you mean just answering the phone, I wouldn't say that's the safest thing you could be doing.

That my point with a blue-tooth hands-free speaker and a one touch or voice command handset makes driving safer than using handset that is not responsive.

If your phone crashes while you are driving, does this mean that you crash too? :-)

If your phone crashes while you are driving, does this mean that you crash too? :-)

OK, So today was the day that I tried installing my tether. Somehow I messed up, no biggie I have the webos doc. So I ran the Doc and when it was done.. I ENDED UP WITH VERSION 1.2.0.
I am not sure about the app catalog and the credit card. Ever since I reset my phone. the app catalog has been down.

haha this is so funny i did this by accident today, and then i saw this post, then i checked my version and whaddya know i accidentally coinicdentally got the 1.2 version..hehe i give my self +1 !

For everyone yelling about led notifications,IT IS HERE, IT IS IN 1.2. MYSELF AND A FEW OTHERS HAVE IT WORKING.

If it doesn't flash in morse code (telling me what the message is about), I'm going to throw a hissy fit or something. "I'm tellin' ya, Palm is runined ... Prepare for the Apocolypse!!! :-)

@theoottesen & others with 1.2 updates.

I thought Palm plugged the leak last evening. How is it Pre owners are still getting 1.2 updates? Could this be intentional on Palms part allowing unofficial leaks to get feed back on improvements thus far?

There is a video out on youtube showcasing 1.2.

Just found it.

I hope that this upgrade corrects the horrific problems associated with the Calendar (especially syncing w/ Google Calendar). I moved from a Palm Centro to a Palm Pre. At the present time the Pre is a superior phone, GPS, Web Browser. The Centro is a far superior PDA. Unfortunately I now have to carry both until improvements are made.

Gibson, clearly nobody has trusted you with any assets of consequence. So keep working on your colorful vocabulary while professionally pumping high test into my sports car. And when you're done with your next tourettes seizure, check the fornicating oil.

How many updates do we have to go through before Palm and Sprint rectify the Pre's lack of integration between Sprint Navigation and phone contacts? It would seem that this should be an easy fix.

I think I mentioned that earlier but it seems people are still caught up in this LED flashing problem. Some people just dont understand what a good hard update should bring. But apparently we havent spoken up enough because Palm seems to have listened to the masses and at least wrote some code that can allow blinking lights. FIX the problem with contact and calender addresses please.

*sigh*

For the 12341234th time....on your Sprint Nav main page, "flick" (you know that cool gesture you are using all over?) DOWN and....LOOK! A few more options the last of which being CONTACTS!

Tap it with your finger....go on, it's ok. See anything? Why...it's ALL my CONTACTS ADDRESSES ready to be navigated to.

(Sorry for the brute sarcasm but bashing the phone for things it HAS is just upsetting)

It would be nice if you could map an address while you are in your contact list, rather than having to open up Sprint Nav and THEN go to the contact list.

***sigh****

I believe that is what I was referring to, being IN the contact page and going straight to the map, not opening the ap then "flicking" down to contacts, refinding the contact I was just on then selecting it. That doesnt sound to much like a smart phone, only the guy previously being a dumb a$$. Kudos to the guy with all the answers.

Thank you for your sarcasm it was a breath of fresh horse shlt on here. the phone may have contacts in many different areas but it doesnt have a direct way to map them from in the contacts. That is all we are saying. No body is bashing the phone we all love it, we would just like to see some "SMART" features that allow productivity. now go on with your 12341235th dumb a$$ coment and read the words that are coming out of my mouth and go enjoy your blinking light.

cool

What's the current status with copy/paste throughout the OS? That's the biggest reason I don't currently own a Pre. I need to be able to copy text from any app and paste into emails, memos, and web forms.

Hey go ahead a get a Palm Pre and with this webOS 1.2 version thats already leaked out will improve the Palm and knock out the iPhone 3.0. S ... You dont need to hack your Palm Pre if you use Preware, file cooster and preload. Preware you can install text/email forwarding, add a keyboard, lanscape mode for email and text reading.etc. Alot of great stuff. And i here that the camera which is already good, will have zoom, timer and able to video recorder but that will be later down the line. Good Luck

OK, If you downloaded a new version of webOS Quick Installer and it came with a updated webOS 1.2. With leaked out and yes you were able to installed it successfuly on your Palm Pre. Then would please add a link or upload the software that you downloaded onto your computer so everyone esle can install webOS 1.2 on there Palm Pre. Come on guy spread the wealth !!!!

what about
- file-transfer bluetooth
- phone as modem
- delete "several" or "all" emails, sms, mms instead of swiping one-by-one
- group contact
- landscape virtual keyboard for browsing

these are basic yet important functionalities, other than that nice/even great to have but not necessity.

To those of you who are trying to sync through your home computer there is an app that will let you sync to palm desktop. So if you are a prior palm user that used palm desktop there is a way. So you dont have to send your information to the "cloud"... Sorry if someone already posted that but I really didnt feel like reading through all the useless garbage and whinning that some of used for this post.

does anyone know if they fixed the image map problem with the browser.

I am currently running my whole business without fear on my palm pre. Life is so much faster and so much NOW! I've landed clients who emailed me while they were on the fence with a decision, only because I was able to be notified instantly and got back to them. For info that I had on my Palm TX I moved to my pre using Classic. I think the old man is right about his fears with the Pre, but I am all for technology and work very well with it and it has worked extremely well for me.

My Palm M505 wont seem to launch Dope Wars after the 1.3.1. of release Web OS.
It keeps saying memory full. Can anyone help.
