webOS 1.1 Coming Next Week? Emulator Double Confirms it Exists

Paterick in our forums took the initiative to mosey on over to the device settings on in the device emulator that came with the Mojo SDK that was just released. If the impending release of webOS 1.1 wasn't confirmed enough for you before, how about now?

When we first broke the 1.1 story, we pointed out that the majority of the improvements would be related to Exchange security and compatibility.  Well, kwbunn in our forums confirms that if you set up the emulator to talk to Exchange servers, it does indeed have the tasty ability to work with servers that enforce more stringent PIN requirements. So take heart, Exchange users at locked-down companies, life is about to get better.

Now for some tasty rumors.  We're hearing that July 22nd is a date to watch for the release (but don't hold us to that, these things change).  We're also hearing that in addition to the EAS improvements, we should see some battery performance improvements, smoother and nicer UI animations, a fix for entering symbols in web page forms, and perhaps even emoticons in the messaging app, among other random fixes.  We were also told free ponies, but we don't put much stock in that last one.

Still no confirmation on new apps, but we're anxiously awaiting the release of the NFL Live app for the Palm Pre. webOS 1.1 is a definite lock and the updates are decent but certainly not splashy.

We already have a pretty good bead on what people want for the big fixes (more on that soon), but what other "little fixes" are you hoping for from Palm in the near future?

Thanks to Cid for the emulator tip!

Comments

I hope they permanently turn on email-in-landscape, eliminating the need for RocknRollHax.

I want deleting messages to work better, one at a time can be a pain. Also, we need the ability to empty the trash, not just pitch it one at a time.

I'd also love to have Flash support.

i need a character count in SMS.

It tells you how many texts you will be sending in the send button. That's as close as we have

LETS GO PALM!!!

Calendar- When viewing ALL your calendars in the MONTH view, they are all just grey! I sometimes work weekends & my work weekends are blue. So a quick glance at month view to see when I work & all I see is grey. LAME! I can't tell if I'm just busy that weekend or am I working? You must go to week or day view to get colors. I hate that.

TRUE DAT!!!!!!

How about if you have outlook and google calendars synced together and you have them both linked to the pre. I thought it was supposed to combine like calendar appointments to one like it does with contacts and synergy?

1) Blinking light notifications
2) Different sound notifications

And I don't want to have to root or sideload apps to get this. This should be standard.

But more importantly, user-configurable AUDIBLE reminders/nags for missed notifications.

Nothing is more annoying than to have no idea someone sent me a text message AN HOUR AGO, but I missed the *one* audible bleep when the notification first appeared.

EMAIL LANDSCAPE! That is totally essential. I really hope its included, i mean its a no brainer and it shouldnt be hard to fix. right?

They really need to fix the bugs in the Nav app:
Can't pan around while naving to see upcoming turns
Can't get back to the home menu once nav has begun
Can't avoid toll roads
No autofill based on recent places

Palm isn't responsible for navigation. Telenav/Sprint are. http://forum.telenav.com/viewforum.php?f=5&sid=ddb3e59a479d372038fd7ac9d...

None of those things you listed are "bugs", excepting inability to pan around while naving, which I CAN definitely do. Don't know why your software can't. There is no autofill anywhere in the phone. This is a system feature, which they will probably implement soon if not in 1.1. Avoiding toll roads is just a feature that you would like to have, not a "bug".

Yes. I second the light notification if we have new messages. We know the little button lights up. Make it light up for more than just swiping my finger. I need to know I have messages waiting without turning my phone on to check.

Not only are reminders/nags EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, they need to be audible also. I don't want to have to look at my phone over on the charger every time I come in the room, wondering if I missed yet another call/text/Email/voicemail/whatever.

more than 3 launcher pages, landscape email, ability to remove tracks from within the music app. drag-able progress bar for music! how about editing mp3 tags? guessing i'm gonna have to wait for the homebrew crew to get stuff like last.fm scrobbling etc...

hmm, better way of entering foreign characters? to type a swedish ö i have to either hit sym and scroll, scroll, scroll, tap or hit sym and o,o,o, sym. worse yet a swedish å is sym,a,a,a,a,a,a,sym...

also, ability to switch off the not so helpful capitalization corrections. when i type a lone i, i often don't want it capitalized, being that i may be typing in a different language where i is not capitalized. notwithstanding my general laziness/reluctance to capitalize at all.

Man I wish it was that easy to get my company to let me use my Pre instead of the mandatory Blackberry. Even with the Exchange security improvements, they don't let us use "privately owned" phones because of the risk of proprietary information being left on them if we separate from the company. So annoying.

rlangley21: I miss the blinking light notification, too! But where would they put it? As something on the LED screen?

Ahhh...the little white button! Yes!! Palm, are you listening?

Oooh oooh ooh... I love when led's "Breathe" make the lil' white light "breathe" when there is a notification... Yay... I'm soo excited... :-D

I am much less concerned about "kewl breathing" nags and much more concerned about AUDIBLE nags for missed notifications. If I can't see my phone, then the "breathing" does absolutely nothing for me.

Exactly...like all three light up for a VM, the middle lights up for email and the two side ones light up for a text message. Or some variance that gives you a clue as to what you have received without having to turn on the phone.

What a crap security policy
So do they stop you using usb keys?
Taking you laptop home?
Accessing email va a public web browser?

Technology doesn't solve your compliance issues, the best it can do is track behaviour
It's your contract of employment combined with good security and AUDITING policies that protect corporations.

1) Notification Light
2) Option to select default view in Calender (ie Day, Week Month)
3) Separate volume control for System Sounds and Notifications

Ammend number 3 to also include Alarm Clock

Hell Yea to #3!
Please fix it. It annoying to want to lower system chines and then notice you missed phone calls cause your Ringtone loud is also now lowered.
WTF?

a simple forward with texts would be nice. i would also like the notification light.

amen brother...or sister?

I totally agree with this one!!

My friend Alan was told by a rep that he would get not just some plain old pony but a WAR PONY!

ALAN WANTS A WAR PONY!

1) When I'm manually changing the date of an appointment I'd like to see a month view popup to select the date, not just a list of numbers.

2) Alarms for appointments needs to be an editable number field like on old POS: enter a number and choose units of minutes, hours, or days. As it stands the maximum is 1 day ahead of time and the next largest is one hour. Not enough options there. I often like to be reminded of events a few hours to as much as 1 week in advance.

3) Ability to add Google Maps search results as new contacts with all info filled in. TryDA did this and I loved it.

4) Google Voice integration. Hopefully this can be more than an app - optimally a plugin to the phone, contact, and messaging apps.

YES!! #4 - Visual Voicemail w/ Google Voice/Spinvox options.

Then, add a way to TAB between fields on web forms and in apps. I hate having to finger-tap each field before typing into it.

People ask for a notification light, but how? There is no physical light that exists, unless you want the entire screen to be blinking which strikes me as absurd and would likely destroy battery life. (e.g., if your phone was in your pocket, you had missed a call and the screen was just flashing constantly in your pocket)

The LED lights in the gesture area!

your silly anonymous... The lil' button below the screen has an led in it... and also... there are two leds' one on each side of the button... i would love to see the led in the button breathe when there is a notification... but.. hell, do it do it do it... YAY!!!

Dang, dude. Think about it. Close your eyes and concentrate.

Who in their right mind would mean wanting the entire screen blinking?!?! Moron.

And while your eyes are closed, picture *AUDIBLE* reminders of notifications every few minutes.

Some of us don't stare at the phone looking for the status of a blinking LED. But if it had a chime every now and then, I would FINALLY STOP MISSING ALL MY NOTIFICATIONS!

Sprint Nav is SLOW. The position of my car is delayed by like 3 seconds so if i ever need to make 2 turns in a row, i don't see that i need to make the 2nd turn until its too late.
So annoying.

This is the Sprint telenav app. I don't think there is a thing that can be done about it. You just hit dead spots from time to time. I've used it on my HTC Touch, My old Samsung m???, my son's rant and of course Me Pre and I have to say that the app has worked best on the Pre. I'm not sure on this but I believe that it triangles with cell towers and GPS, show when the signal is low on both you are going to see lag. Though it does seem that Google Maps has this problem less often for some reason.

It is a little slow on the Pre but worked perfect on my BlackBerry. It was never slow at navigating. Thinking this update will speed things up on the Pre just a bit. Half the time I had to restart my BB just to get the GPS to work, but never on the Pre. Give on one take from the other.

I can already enter symbols in web forms since the last update. Am I alone?

Ablility to turn off email notifications at night. I can put the phone in silent mode, but then i'll miss phone calls when I'm asleep.

Go into email app->Preferences and Accounts
->Select e-mail account->toggle play sound to off position

It'll be convenient to have just one on/off toggle for all email accounts right in the main email app screen. I have multiple email accounts and it will be a pain to turn on/off sounds on all of them.

Even better I should be able to set a time to switch off the email notification. Something like 12 am to 8 am everyday.

All of these "wants" makes the phone sound super flawed man... I'm trying to have an open mind about it though, as I am going to get it in September.

Give them time though, I'm sure they'll come out with great updates based upon what people want. Also, a lot of this is stuff that developers can make because, frankly, a lot such as the LED notifications are apps or hacks for other OS's...

Agreed, but better yet we should have custom profile that's we can switch between, like on the Blackberrys. For example you can setup a profile like ring for phone calls, silent for emails, silent for text, etc. and instantly switch to it anyime, such as when you go to sleep. I always loved this on my Blackberry and would switch to this profile each night because I didn't want to be disturbed with emails/text but available for emergency phone calls

Also want:

Abiility to set up diff tones for different emails
Invite attendees in calendar events/appts
Select and copy/paste in web browser!
Forward text
Yahoo messenger
Automatically capitalize "I" and put apostrophe in the word "I'll"

All of these features were available on my Blackberry, so I miss it for those reasons. But the Pre is a great phone overall.

"Turn off email notifications at night, I can put it into silent mode but I would miss phone calls"

Can't you set a schedule for email synchronisation like you can on the Windows mobile devices??

If you can't just turn synchronisation off every night and switch it back on in the morning.

I am a sprint rep, I get asked too many times a day for the old calendar style (ex. Color and icons) people don't want to use classic just to run something they believe should be included... I also think that emotions in txt/IM should be included (my wifes centro could do it!) also adding flash ability and a camcorder would be nice! Email in landscape without rooting would be nice for those people who get spreadsheets/tables in emails. Being able to fwd a txt would be nice, and being able to save pics or audio from web would too... Animated picturemail would be nice (for all those weird spam picturemails people send). That's all I can think of for now...

Free pony. Cool.

its a WAR pony!

geez get it right!

Ohh, fo those who want notification... Palm could possibly make the cardview button light up/blink?

Yes they could. But a notification lamp is useless when you are not looking at the phone.

AUDIBLE reminders would be oh so much better. I had it on the Treo with "treoalertmgr" and I miss it TERRIBLY.

1. "All day" events to actually show up in "month mode"
2. Video recording!!!!!!
3. The button LED to breathe when there is a notification
4. More landscape modes in other programs like e-mail.
5. ♥♥♥ I LOVE YOU PALM ♥♥♥

How about a way to completely shut off the screen while charging. As it stands, it's pretty annoying when the phone is sitting on the touchstone right next to my bed. I also wish you could adjust the headphone volume in smaller increments.

Yep, that is also on my list. It is not only annoying, but it might also:

1) Wear out the screen
2) Slow down the charging, since it has to waste power

I mean, sure, show a clock for a while, but then just go to sleep after 10 min or something. Better yet- make it user controllable (what a concept).

But only AFTER adding *AUDIBLE* nag/reminders for notifications....

I can see one good point for keeping the screen on when on the touchstone (you can see the data on the display). But there are so many more bad reasons that make me wonder why Palm would do this?

Palm please provide the ability for the screen to switch off either by a timeout or by a toggle command.

This is the only reason I won't be buying your cool touchstone device

I guess I'm in the minority that likes the screen on. I can see notifications without toggling my screen on and use it as a clock in my room. I think the best would be an option to toggle this so everyone gets what they want.

When my Pre is sitting on the Touchstone charger, a call comes in, and I pick up the phone (removing it from the charger)... IT SHOULD NOT ANSWER THE PHONE.

If I want to answer the call, I'll press the "answer" button.

Why are you picking up your phone if you don't want to answer it? I think Palm made a best guess by making it function like that.

1- landscape everywhere
2- center button notificaton
3- longer lasting battery!!!

ah thank ya :)

I'd like a TAB key - PLEASE!!!
I nominate Sym-Q to be assigned for that purpose.
Navigating web forms without a tab key is a real pain in the arse!

Ah, good idea. However, Sym-Backspace might be more logical given the graphic on the key.

I nominate a short left to right swipe in the gesture area. Opposite of 'back'.

I think the left to right swipe should be held for forward one page in the browser.

I think holding down on the gesture area + tap on a link should open the page in a new tab.

Maybe double tap for new tab?

Repeating Tasks (w/ synergy)
Memo categories (w/ synergy)
Contact linking to Calendar appointments.
Notification sound changing
Blink notification
Camcorder app
Touch keyboard (primarily for entering text in landscape)

AMEN to the keyboard typing...

I don't have my Pre yet, but I want the following.

Visual Voicemail...

LED notifications for both Text Messages and Voicemail. Just have the LED flash three different patterns, one for Text, one for Voicemail, and a Third for both.

Ability to choose seperate ringers for Text/Voicemail/Email.

Bring back all the Text Message features that made the Treos the best.

Bring back the calendar/reminder features from the Treos.

Why did Palm start from scratch on the apps instead of building on the superior features that the Treos have had for years and years?

Amen to that ! The Treos are very powerfull phones and very underated. Palm should just go down the list of all the features the treo had (customizations, sounds, colors, ims, emails, video cam, etc) and just convert the code over to WebOs. They invented and improved on all that stuff over the last 7+ years, why scratch it now ?? This would make the PRE very very impressive.
Love the Pre, go Palm !

Why did Palm start from scratch on the apps instead of building on the superior features that the Treos have had for years and years?

Because there's no stylus to hit all those little boxes and buttons, that's why. I agree that the functionality should carry over, but a complete UI redesign is necessary for the move to a capacitive touch screen.

No

Yes.
Moron.

Mp3 player which has capability to stream live radio stations such as KSL 1160 AM... PLEASE!

FINALLY...Got the WebOS 1.1 to set up my Exchange email on the emulator...cant wait till they release it.

The screen lights up briefly that's enough for me last thing I need is a light blinking while I'm sleeping. More flexibility with the ringtones would be nice. I'd like to know the difference between an email, a text, and general alerts without having to run to the phone all the time. I missed an important text today thinking it was Tweed.

As fa as the blinking light comment, on the Blackberry you could set up the reminder light to be on or off. Also, there was 3rd party app that would let you set up the schedule when you wanted the reminders so you wouldn't be bothered after bedtime. The Pre needs this feature!

ah yes, saving pics from web. also, to turn of screen when on touchstone - the clock is fine when it's on my work touchstone, but not when it's on my home touchstone next to my bed... dim mode is not very dim when everything else is dark.

I'd like to see a dimmer scroll bar on the Touchstone screen... a dimmer that goes from the current brightness all the way to Off.

The screen should just turn off after a minute. The card view button can glow to indicate a received email, text or calander event. Touch the screen and it turns on for a minute.

I would like to thank everyone for submitting their Christmas lists for the Pre, I will make sure Santa gets it in time for Christmas.

1) yahoo synergy
2) on web pages: the ability to select a button that has a secondary pull-down menu (like the header on Facebook with the Friends button). you can't get to the menu because when you click the button, it opens the main link. a "hold down and pause" option would be nice.

In Text Messaging - where did the Quick Text go??? Time stamp for sent and received msg's not just the last one.
Calendar Month Mode - can't see much except in week mode.
Email - Landscape view
Typing - Possible virtual keyboard for landscape view?
Launcher - another line? or capability of adding more icons?
Camera - Video rec capability?? Had it in the Treo where did it go???
Notes/Memo - Capability to Sync them to PC
Ringtones - Separate ringtone for notifications/email/etc.
Notification - Blinking button if possible.
App - Tip Calculator

all I can think of for now.

I just wanted to comment that I DO NOT want to add another line to the launcher... Personally, I like being able to press/hold and drag up to access my shortcuts while driving. makes it sooo easy.

Facebook chat integration anyone?

+1

I like the fact that you made the effort to change your posting name, but all you did was shorten it to "Anon" :)

yes def Facebook chat integration.
txt forwarding.
light notification.
better battery life.
better/separate volume controls.
sync a la old treos.
camcorder.
i wanna like this phone more, but this little setbacks are preventing me from so.

Agree with most of the above. Especially:
1) Landscape E-Mail
2) Landscape virtual keyboard
3) Video Recording
4) Delete videos and music tracks from within app.

Also...
5) Digital Zoom (Camera)

This is what I want.

Oh the Possibilities!!!!!

animated keyboard Please!!!!!!!!!

1. Breathing LED light when recieve email, mms, vmail

2. CAMERA delay/timer function!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Video Recording
-Digital zoom
- Updating the software for the white balances.

3. SOUNDS/ALERTS - I hate not being able to change them
-mms, email

4. SCREEN fading - There needs to be an option to "ALWAYS
KEEP ON", Its a pain pressing the spacebar to re-ignite
the screen when using Google Maps/GPS when driving.

5. Flash Support ( yes i know its coming late '09 )

6. Consolitated VOLUME CONTROLS - put it one spot and leave em there :p

7. Facebook & Myspace CHAT

8. And last but, not all that important:
-I should be able to change the LOADSCREEN png like our
developers are doing in the forums SOOOO COOL!
-Also It would be nice to change PHONE DIALER: meaning
being able to make it transparent, or a diff image.

EDIT---- also fix the mms BUG: I dont need a notification that i recieved a text message when im already in a conversation with said person.

YES!! That MMS bug drives me F'n NUTS!!

ON ANOTHER NOTE: I just watched the 50minute "All things digital", and if "WE, the Consumers" decide where this phone is going... THEN PALM --- READ THIS FORUM, so many things to add that are just soooo easy to enable because our homebrewers are already doing it.

When I got my Pre the Sprint rep. told me the Pre wouldn't look right with a virtual keyboard because of the rounded screen.

Well, that rep doesn't know what he is talking about.

A virtual keyboard would work just fine, if it existed. And it would allow text entry when in landscape mode, which would be very nice.

Yep I agree... it would help bigga time for entering text while in landscape mode. i hate having to flip the phone just to enter a couple of words then flip it back

P.s. Faster page rendering so those squares won't shop up when rapidly scrolling.

*show

I just ran into an annoying bug in the Messaging app. When you select a contact in the Buddies screen, it will use Text for that contact if you last text messaged them. Simiarly, if you choose to SMS a phone number from Contacts, it will select IM if you last used that. It really should use the specified mechanism.

Ability to Email a Task or Task list from the Task App.

Just some things the Pre really needs to make it a true hit.

1: Visual Voice Mail/ Google Voice

2: On screen Keyboard/The real keyboard is OK,Yet sometimes you don't wanna open you Pre

3: Voice Dial, and Voice Commands

4: Native Facebook App/as well as Myspace App

5: Make the Clock App part of the home screen/and make the Clock app like a screen saver

6: Update to the Music App so you can rate songs/and a way to make quick play list.

7: A way to rate Contacts,so that you can set up times or events that only those callers can get through. But only if that meet that rating,

8: Better Calendar that shows your events in month view.

9: Different Notification sounds for text, email,Tweets,IM's and G Talk Chat

10: Default View size for websites and emails.

This is just some of the top ten things the Pre still need super bad.........

This isn't too surprising considering the SDK filename (Mac version anyway) is Palm_Mojo_SDK-Mac-1.1.0-sdk62-build08.dmg.

Please, Please, fix bluetooth compatibility issues especially with the sony-erricson HBH-DS980 headset! Is anyone at palm even working on bluetooth?

Yeah the only thing you can do with bluetooth at this point is audio. You are not alone on this one. It seemed really odd to me that there wasn't beam. I hope that this is coming cause it's so nice to just beam docs, contacts, photos, etc.. from phone to phone. This may have something to do with the whole cloud thing. The idea that everything comes from a internet provider like facebook, google and AIM.

I'm with you on the Voice Memos as I'm a songwriter that lived off of my last phones ability to do this!

Ooh... I just want to second some great ideas'

1. on screen keyboard (!!!just for entering in landscape!!!)
2. Also Visual Voicemail
3. Voice Memo's (very important)

I agree with most people in the forum, even though some are just asking for real "personalized" features... that's what the apps are for...

This is what they should work on:
1- Landscape view for Email
2- LED notification for MMS, VM, & Email
3- Video Camera
4- On-screen keyboard
5- And fix the issue with the browser (when u press back or exit, it takes u to homepage instead of the last page u visited.
6- Fix issue with Calendar
7- Turn off notification for txt messages when you're talking to the person

>2- LED notification for MMS, VM, & Email

No! You mean *AUDIBLE* reminders (as well as LED) for notifications

>5- And fix the issue with the browser (when u press back or exit, it takes u to homepage instead of the last page u visited.

Actually, I think that was fixed. I do remember having that problem. But lately when I press the back button, it takes me back like it should.

Landscape view for Email and voice search.

This is some of whats coming in this upgrade:

Facebook friends will sync with your PC and your Palm Pre
Picture messaging enhancements
EAS email support that allows an IP address input
Ampersand and other symbols can be used in web application input
SMS will be able to see all "To" contact properties
Emoticon support
SMS - Timestamp 24 time capability
YouTube search / enter key enables searches

Funny how not a single one of those things is on my (very long list) of needs/wants :(

Somebody talked about group texting. I'd like to be able to designate a "poker" group and be able to pick that so I don't have to enter everybody's name manually each week when I send out my text blast for my game - which starts in about 30 minutes if anybody likes mixed games. :)

Would be nice to have a way to sort bookmarks...

you can sort book marks under preferences->bookmarks place you finger on the bookmark and hold it for ~1 sec then you can move it up or down.

I meant sorting them by category, like news, sports, technology, etc. much like you would in Firefox or IE

I'm not sure it's a confirmation of anything. webOS SDK has always had different version numbers from webOS (at least during early access).

Still, I do hope 1.1 is right around the corner as you've mentioned.

Here's mine but most have been covered:
1. bluetooth being able to beam and sync.
2. Now that the iTunes sync is busted(really, really hate dealing with itunes in the first place), Support for WMP and other media player playlists or better yet creating and editing playlist on the Pre.
3. Complete cloud synergy by adding Yahoo, MSN, Skype, etc... One of the things that drew me to the Pre was the idea that all my contacts would be in one place. That hasn't happened yet.
4. Cut and paste for non-text input areas and images. My crappy WM device can at least do that. While you are at it, downloading files off the internet.
5. This is a big one for those of us with big fingers, arrow or directional keys. Not sure if this is possible but for editing it would really make life easier.
6. folders for storage of images. Love the UI on the photo roll but it would be nice to organize photos for vacation in one folder, another photos of my son, another etc...
7. E-mail multi delete. Yeah it's fun to swipe the spam but some days I don't feel like doing it 200 times.
8 Better camera software, I'm unsure if it is possible to add auto focus but it would make a huge difference and should come before video capture, also red eye reduction.
9. Print by wireless or wifi and picture bridge.
10. Docs or an app for google docs.
11. External hard drive support or external card reader support through USB.
12. This is not OS related but touchstone for the car and USB data cables. It sucks to have to unplug the usb cord to transfer or sync. Shipping with the one cord does all is a pain.

Here's my list of Pre improvements:
01. A real memo program, complete with categories and security
02. Related to #1 - Sync-able memos and tasks (perhaps sync google tasks??)
03. Voice Memos. Would be cool to see a program transcribe them as well, but probably too much to hope for.
04. Video Recording
05. Email in landscape
06. keywords in browser, similar to Firefox... (i.e., be able to type in "pre" instead of "www.precentral.net") Much quicker than using bookmarks
07. Voice Dialing
08. Ability to forward SMS & MMS
09. Ability to copy txt in old SMS msgs
10. Different Profiles (i.e., "Office" - WiFi On, airplane mode on; "Car" - WiFi Off, Bluetooth On, etc.
11. Speed improvement looking at pictures (there's a really long delay viewing pics for them to come into focus)
12. Customizable number of times to vibrate for incoming SMS, Email, Appointment, etc.
13. Ability to save credentials (at work, we have to input our credentials at least once every four hours to get to the internet, would love to save this. Also save passwords for websites
14. Ability to create other categories for pictures. Also option to hide pictures you don't want others to see
15. Call duration on phone app
16. Option to default buttons on while on a phone call
17. SMS / MMS conversations on separate cards
18. SMS / MMS character count as you're typing
19. One button to empty deleted emails instead of having to purge them one swipe at a time
20. Phone number lookup, like on the old Palm.. for, say you're adding a calendar appt and want to add the number of the person you want to call at a certain time.
21. Ability to send an SMS or MMS to several people at one time - also ability to create SMS/MMS groups
22. Trackball mode seems too sensitive, maybe it's just me.
23. Option to turn screen off while on touchstone, only coming on for notifications
24. When in calendar adding a new entry, if I want to change the date of the event, I'm forced to enter the date, would like to see a full calendar so I can visually see what day it falls on and tap on the date I want.
25. When a calendar reminder pops up, would like to be able to pick how long I'd like it to snooze
26. Ability to sort contacts into categories
27. Ability to copy txt or pictures from web pages
28. Quick text in SMS / MMS
29. Add button to calendar entry for "no time"

I'd love to see a "Select All" option under "Edit" along with Cut, Copy and Paste. There are many times when I need to copy the text from a note or a field or a calendar entry, and trying to select it manually is a pain when a simple command would save so much time.

>but we're anxiously awaiting the release of the NFL Live app for the Palm Pre.

No, believe it or not, a lot of us have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in "football" and would MUCH rather have the ability to DELETE FORCED APPS WE DON'T WANT or need.

I have a whole list of things I want, but my #1 priority is to have a nag mode (reminders) on notifications. I am missing most of my notifications most of the time, rendering me very much out of touch. Like most people, I don't have a phone glued to me 24x7.

I thought I was the only one that felt like that about the NFL Live app.

I wish Sprint would just offer these free apps in the app store and let people get them if they want. Or at the very least, let us delete them. Oh well.

OMG!!! You mean you don't get audible nags for reminders/meetings!!!!

Well that HAS torn it.

I was willing to suffer the issue with creating meetings and NOT being able to add attendees for a short time.

Though no audible (and configurable) reminders has pretty much done it for me as I live in my PIM/Calendar

If by the time the PRE hits the Aussie shores it doesn't have this capability I will be picking up a 3GS (and I so hate iTunes and Apple) and like a physical keyboard but at least the iPhone has all these PIM features.

Please PALM I love the PRE but you need to fix these things for those of us that live through our PIM.

I would say the most regularly used apps are messaging and I bet calendar is not far behind.

I keep telling people about how critical nags are, and it seems to take a while for it to "sink in".

For a lot of people, it is going to be the # 1 problem. And something they just assume the phone will do, before they buy it. I suggest you do what I did- go to palm.com and send them an "Email" about how important it is to have audible nags for notifications.

As everyone else has said I would love to see notification lights, another thing I would like that I havent seen mentioned that I loved with Windows Mobile is SMART DIALING. If you dont know what I mean, im talking about being able to dial using the letters on the keypad to find contacts. For instance if I wanted to dial "Dad" I could just punch in "323" and the contact would show up.

> As everyone else has said I would love to see notification lights

NO!!!!! You mean you would like to have AUDIBLE reminders/nags AS WELL as LED reminders/nags for missed notifications. :)

When someone calls my phone, it doesn't just blink a light. It *RINGS* to get my attention. Why? Because I am not always staring at my phone!

When I miss something, it BLEEPS audibly when first showing a notification. Why? Because I am not always starting at my phone!

It only makes sense that missed notifications that have not been acknowledged also make some type of sound. BECAUSE I AM NOT ALWAYS LOOKING AT MY PHONE!!!

(Can you tell this is a problem for me?)

I understand what you're saying. However, I work in an office where I don't want my phone ringing, bleeping, or making any sound whatsoever as it is a dead giveaway that I'm not working and paying more attention to my phone. Silent lights work better in my situation.

So the answer then is to have lighted notifications AND assignable sounds for notifications, as well.

That is why there is a vibrate switch...

1. Support for extra numbers for dialing shortcuts
2. Add intelligence in Synergy to ignore "In Case of Emergency" contacts for caller ID and text messaging.
3. More user control of Synergy. It's still version 1.x, but I get offended when the technology company presumes to tell me how I should want to work.

Am I the only one still having problems with the Calendar? The thing takes forever to load up and when I flip from day to day, I have to wait 2-5 seconds between days.

I would like to have they yahoo/msn function added. I along with other friends of mine that have the Pre would love for that feature to be added quickly. It would be great to see that working fast. Landscape email would be nice. And also virtual keyboard for landscape mode would be awesome too.

Other nice things would be folder control for pics, ie adding folders, making folders private. More format support for video player. If it isn't in the format that Iphone supports it won't play. Being able to create a playlist in music player would be nice also.

The calendar app that is truly user friendly. Meaning being able to assign colors for different type of appointments. And better notication control in the calendar mode.

File sharing like with the palm. Being able to beam or email events to each other and have it go into the right spot on the calendar would be totally awesome.

And also everyone else favorite needed function. Assignable alerts. It is so annying to be with my wife. We both have the Pre, having to ask each other was that my phone or yours.

Easy - spend less time with your wife ;-)

god damn just give me user friend homebrew installation

Homebrew installs are really easy and user friendly. If you just d/l the latest java, have the virtual box installed and the SDK install. Then install the preinstall app to your computer.. It is as easy and drag and drop apps to your phone. Follow the direction in the homebrew forum. I did it. Only took me 10 mins. And 3 was waiting for my palm to reset.

Here is one I think most people may have ignored. BACKUP !
For anyone who has already had to backup their phone for whatever reason from their palm profile, knows it is a joke.
It only backs up your contacts, calendar and some other basic stuff. The treos, when you needed to restore a back up, it would bring your phone to EXACTLY its previous state. All IMs, logs, memos, bookmarks, application settings, fonts, everything.
If you need to use the current palm back up, be ready to spend many many minutes, if not hours, getting everything the way you had before.
I think this is a MUST for palm to address! Backup has to be a real backup.

Landscape in PDF.
Non-stupid event reminder options.

The rumor about smoothing out the animations in the webOS environment caught my eye. One of the things that gives the iPhone some of its polished feel is the fluidity of the animations on the phone. The pre seems to struggle a bit with its animation creatng a choppy or jumpy appearance. While functionality always comes first its foolish to think a smooth user experience wouldn't sell more phones.

Also if anyone could point me to the source of this rumor that would be appriciated.

Posted from my pre :)

I want happy endings

Landscape keybaord in all apps and
Copy and paste in all apps even from app catalog
Revomal of the refresh and back and forward buttons when taking screenshot
Light notifications
Sms/mms forwarding
Setting for web app when opening open with home page

And many more just can't name them all..........

Look at the functionality of the notifications (different sounds, # of vibrates, # of rings, etc.) on the BlackBerry. That should be standard for all new smart phones today. This is the one thing that Blackberry does perfectly (almost). I miss lots of my notifications on my Pre because I get one little sound and one little vibrate. If I turn off the ringer I depend on the vibration. Need just a bit more than 1 ring and vibrate. This has truly been my only complaint with my Pre.

Amen, brother.
A single bleep does not a real notification make. It is driving me INSANE. I am missing important text messages and voicemails for hours. People think I either never got the message, or that I am being a snob.

Come on Palm.... first and foremost, this thing is a PHONE- it is a COMMUNICATIONS DEVICE. Nothing is more important than making sure it acts like one!

My wish list:

1. Led light (and audible) notifications. Can use a combination of all the lights in the gesture area to mean different things (new call, email, txt).
2. Screen brightness - option to turn screen off while on touchstone. Can adjust screen even darker if needed during normal use to save battery.
3. Landscape email
4. Onscreen keyboard in landscape AND portrait - sometimes I just need to type in 2 letters to search a contact. A screen keyboard would be so easy for this.
5. Web browser - ability to download files like images, pdf's and docs from emails and the web. We have doc viewers on the pre. Why can't we download files so we can actually use these viewers!

I can't believe no one mentioned fixing frames on the web browser.

On the iphone, if you scroll up, the page will not jitter because it 'knows' what you are trying to read. On my pre, the page goes all over the place.

I would also like a scroll bar on the side. It would allow me to jump down to a certain part of the page with a quick tap, or it would let me kbow how far from the bottom I am. On the iphone, there are a number of applications that have a vertical bar on the side (sometimes with letters for ebooks) so that someone can quickly skip ahead.

Widgets... I agree with any feature everyone has said so far, but also add whidgets and to go with widgets since cards are in the way add a gesture to temporarily hide cards.

make sure your software is up to date. I had one the did that too until 1.03. Then it went away. Otherwise, return it and get another. They shouldn't get that hot.

what you guys a doing for the heating up.. i just got mine yesterday, and i've been cooking fried eggs on my plam pre any suggestions

My Pre doesn't get any hotter than my Treo 700, 650, 600 or other Palm phones.

It is the nature of Lithium-Ion batteries. I don't think there is much that can be done about it.
