Brian posted last week about how the Palm Pre has been popping up on several of Palm's international web sites. Update: And forum member Stefan had actually commented below Brian's article and let us know that the provider for the Netherlands would be Vodafone, referring to the tweakers.net article below. Sorry I missed Stefan's comment before now! I try to read all the comments but sometimes I miss some.
And Dieter saw a GSM version of the Palm Pre sporting a Vodafone SIM card at MWC 2009.
Recently, the Palm WebOS Blog reported learning via tweakers.net (Dutch site) that Vodafone finally admitted that they're in negotiation with Palm for release of the Pre.
According to Palm WebOS Blog, Ivo Philipsen a spokesperson of Now-Mobile and the exclusive Palm agent in Benelux, said that they're negotiating an exclusive deal with Vodafone for the first 3 months.
From the article:
It’s not clear at this stage where the negotiations are. Joost Galema, PR manager of Vodafone Netherlands, said that they are still considering whether they can agree a deal with Palm. T-mobile would not comment when Tweakers.net asked them if Palm is also in talks with other carriers, however, T-mobile’s spokesperson, Priscilla Tomasoa, did admit that Palm Pre would be a good handset for them to have following the success of iPhone and G1 with Android.
Evgeny of Palm WebOS Blog noted that an undisclosed Vodafone employee showed him some of the upcoming Vodafone cloud services, which look good.
I'm so ready for the Palm Pre to be released! I wouldn't care if Vodafone got it first , just so we get it here soon!

Ummm, it is no brainer that every large Euro carrier is "in negotiations" with Palm, and every other handset maker all the time for their upcoming handsets. "Admitted they are in negotiation" is simply a truism.
Spotting a voda sim in the Barcelona event Pre is evidence of no more than the guy handling the alpha having a voda card to pull from his normal handset. ... lol, unless you are suggesting that Palm sim locked its Pre alpha???
Voda is a likely carrier because of its numbers and the fact that it has direct or carrier stockholder presence in most Europe countries. That was true in January and it will be true in September and no other logical facts have changed regarding Pre and possible Euro GSM carrier.

Ummmmm, we know it's "a" no brainer. I for one am hoping that the Pre comes to Sprint or whoever very soon. People are getting restless and want news on the Pre.
it isn't "news" though. We saw the voda chip weeks ago. We have also seen Voda chips in demo models that were not marketed by Voda. Someone has to take one of their chips out of their personal phone and stick it in the demo model.
The rest is a truism since we also know for certain Palm would be talking to Orange and the rest.
Voda is a good guess, but for factors that have nothing to do with a sim or any reports of talks.
If you want news on the Pre on Sprint why not look at what Dan Hesse is saying? It isn't all good.
You should read the comments on your blog, I told you this last thursday in the comments on this post (ninth comment): http://www.precentral.net/palm-pre-world-tour
referring to the same article on tweakers.net, now it's finally front-page news :P
no problem, thanks for the credit :)
I'm pretty sure a previous post noted that the 3G GSM version is only for 1900/2100mhz band. Here in Australia only Optus & Vodafone offer 3G on these bands, whereas the largest Telco Telstra has their NextG (read 3G) operating on the 850mhz band. Accordingly this would mean that Vodafone is the only logical carrier for the Pre.
BlackBerry has locked in their Storm with Vodafone as it only operates on the 1900/2100mhz 3G bands, whereas the Bold is available through all carries, but initially Telstra as it also operates on 850mhz 3G band.
We also know for certain Palm would be talking to Orange and the rest.
