Verizon Re-Confirms Palm Pre in Early 2010

We've already heard officially from Verizon that they'll be carrying the Pre in 2010 (they said January). But for those who've missed the news, Verizon has re-confirmed via Twitter that it's definitely coming: "We will be carrying the Palm Pre smartphone early next year."

Good news, that, and we're going to not worry about the fact that @VZWOffers went with "early next year" instead of January. Verizon is finally coming around and bringing better hardware to the table with the Storm2 and some Android love, so the Pre will be entering a fairly crowded field. We trust it can hold its own, do you?

hopefully it's just they weren't thinking anything of saying "early next year" and it's not the usual verizon speak for "way after we led you all to believe"....

The Pre will hold its own...The Blackberry Storm 2 is cool aint that much diff from the 1st one. And the Pre being on Verizon will get it more fans and users because alot of people dont like Sprint....

Palm will need to address the 8 gig memory issue (making it larger), forwarding text, picture mail, video recording, visual voicemail, on screen keybord, the battery drain issue and the issue with the installed app limit. And with the Pre2 (if there is such a thing) they need to do something about build quality. Add some metal to the circumference. Fix the slider issue. Maybe add an SD card slot. They could make it about a centimeter longer to add a larger battery and, or SD card slot.

Today marks one month since I bought my Pre. I have it in the Seidio inno case and holster with screen protector. I baby the phone, still my Pre has the wiggle issue with the slider mechanism. My battery drains in less than 4 hours with lite to no use. There is something wrong with the wifi setup, doesnt keep my network saved. I had to do a full wipe last weekend after talking to sprint tech support and 2/3rd of my apps were lost, 1/2 my contacts gone. So all in all I wont give up my Pre, will just get another one. But being that VZ intends to carry the Pre, Palm need to step up the game on these minor but important issue. I want Palm to succeed, I want the Pre to be a success, but Palm needs to do some work.

I think it's called "user error".

@Horpto_G

You have no idea what the OP did or didn't do. Your comment adds nothing to the discourse here and marks you as a troll for negativity.

I frankly think his requests are valid and if they are handled correctly, I probably will pick up the Pre2. (but not on Verizon).

I think the OP's post added NOTHING to the thread ABOUT VZ GETTING THE PRE. it's not a thread about what people hate about hte PRE, now what needs to be in the Pre2.

Perhaps the OP's post should be marked as a troll on negativity? since it's not relevant to the article one bit.

Yes, I would love if the Pre was a bit heavier so it wouldn't be top-heavy while the slider is open. It's more difficult to type one-handed on the Pre than with the Treo.

I don't get it, you seem so unhappy and have all these complaints about the Pre and yet you did not return it and plan to get another. Lets look at some of your comments:

What memory issue? 8 gig is huge. If you need more for your tunes and videos, you need a separate player.

Battery drain? Is your software OS up to date? Did you allow the battery to fully discharge and then recharge it two times? Try these two and you will be surprised. Also if not using wifi and bluetooth, turn them off. Also adjust your mail checking settings.

I will give you the build issues, although I have yet to hear of any problems caused by the wiggle, but the newer units are much better.

Wifi set up, that one is new to me. Mine works fine as does my wife's. Palm as done a great job with a new product launch and it continues to get better. Verizon carrying the Pre does not do some magic. Verizon needs good smart phones, their selection is abysmal. The Pre will help them as well as help Palm.

Most of what you have mentioned have been tried. I am just giving the specifics on my particular unit. I am happy your Pre is fabulous. My Pre is also one of the newer ones as I have had for a month yesterday.

yes but will verizon "V-Crap" up the Pre? Disable features?

It's a smartphone. Tell me what Verizon smartphone now has any features disabled? It will probably have some Vzw apps but that's it, similar to the stuff that's on the Sprint Pre now (useless for me).

Do you use Sprint Navigation? That app is so good that I gave my TomTom to my wife.

just thinking I'm glad I didn't wait for the Pre to show up on VZW. Sprint has very good coverage in my area and its monthly rate is cheaper that VZW. I think you can file this story under I'll believe it when I see it.

does jamrock just browse precentral and post because the stuff hes talking about having on the pre is accessable through hombrew/preware and much more, and since you have a seido case why dont you get the extended battery too the smaller one wont change your size of the pre and my battery life with it last the whole day on one charge read up homie we have forums to help you for real

I`m still waiting for the Verizon pre.I hope it comes in January because I know a few people waiting to get it.The pre is way better than the storm2 because of Webos.I love multi-tasking and synergy.I can`t wait!

I left Verizon and a Samsung Omnia to go to the Pre. I am happy with that move, as my Omnia GPS was disabled and the Sprint monthly offering is much better - even though the Verizon coverage is much better where I live. I really do wonder if Verizon will allow the full App Catalog to be available to its custmers...if not, then I will remain happy at Sprint.

Regarding the Sprint Navigation, I agree with miles4000. I gave my TomTom to my son to use. now I have to find a satisfactory windshield or dash mount for it!

gps was "unlocked" on the omnia and the other recent smartphones that didn't already have it unlocked out of the gate.

So I doubt the pre will come with it locked from day 1.

I'm curious to see if Verizon is gonna be willing to throw in competitive data plans once they get the Pre (and iPhone) at some point. Users of both these phones are used to affordable unlimited data.

Pre on Verizon sounds awesome but not when they are going to charge huge amounts of money to use it on their network.

wouldn't hold your breath that they will change their plans for the Pre. Currently unlimited messaging and data is 30 bucks more a month on the 450 minute plan (too lazy to look up larger). Used to be 45 for data and something more for messaging I think. So they have come closer to sprint, but i dont think you will ever see them get near sprints pricing- they dont seem to need to to gain subs and make the fat cash they have for years now.

Hey all first post here, so it is kind of an unloading of my thoughts as I have been reading this site for the past few months.

If you sell it, they will come.

We left Sprint a long time ago because the service just plain sucked. We moved to Verizon and had great service. But as time has gone on and smart phones have really become smart, I (we) have really started wanting more. I think that this is where Verizon is missing the bus. Great, you have good coverage, but what we want is something that is beyond a phone. We want a mini computer, powerful enough to help manage our lives. We want to be entertained when we want and not have to wait till we get home and turn on the pc. I am not sure that this is an all together good thing, but we want it.

So, I have always tried to have the latest and greatest, not because it is trendy or cool, er hem, well at least not because it was trendy. I use the phone to it's fullest and tweak it to get every last bit of performance out of it.

My last (and current) phone is the Palm 700p. It had it's bugs when it first was released, but it has been solid ever since the maintenance release. I love my phone. It is the first one I have ever not really felt the need to give up at the end of my contract. I have been using Palms since the IIIx. So, I have a comfort in the Palm mindset. After my 2 year contract was up (Dec 08'), I searched for the latest, but all the palm stuff was the same ol (minus packaging) and there was nothing that really stood up to it. I waited for a bit and got the Storm when it came out. I returned it after about a month sheer frustration, and went back to the palm. There were just too many things that it would not do by the very core nature of BB. I like the way the Palm felt as a user experience.

Once I saw the Pre was coming, I waited. When it was announced that it would be a Sprint only phone, frustrated, I went in search of another flavor of phone, but I have a severe dislike for BB and the HTC and others like it just did not cut it, so again, I waited. When rumors started that V would eventually get the Pre, I decided to hunker down and wait. It has been an emotional roller coaster not knowing for sure if it was coming or not. (which is really stupid considering that it is just a phone). My poor 700p is slowly going to pieces and I hope to keep it alive until they do release it.

Thoughts about marketing and how not to sell stuff... I would think that if Palm wanted everyone to buy their phone, they would be less exclusive. There is no synergy in stupidity. More so, I would think that if Verizon wanted to keep customers, they would stop selling so many lame phones, and stop jerking us around with the information. Just tell us what is coming. So you got a new phone, big deal! Why hide it? Their taste for such secrecy is just downright stupid. You would think they wanted to be homeland security or something. If you want to attract customers, tell people that you are going to sell something, then sell it. It is called advertising. Then go a step beyond and do not disable it. When your competition has all the bells and whistles, do not chop off your own leg and disable the features we want to use. It is almost like they think we don't look at other carriers and we don't look at other phones. This isn't marriage, it is a short agreement. If we don't like you we can and will leave you.
