Still interested in getting your paws on an unlocked GSM Palm Pre, but don’t trust retailers with whom you’re not familiar? We don’t blame you - the world of internet commerce is a scary place, so we’re happy to point your to the most reputable of online retailers: Amazon. Their German outlet is selling the unlocked German QWERTZ Pre for just €399,99 - that’s $598.19 in Yankee coin. That frankly isn’t a bad premium over the $550 a Sprint Pre will cost you, and that can’t even be unlocked.
The unlocked Pre for sale on Amazon does come through reseller Spieleparadies Rüstem, so you’re not getting it direct from Amazon. And there’s one more catch: you’re going to need a friend in Germany to serve as a shipping intermediary, as Spieleparadies Rüstem apparently doesn’t do international shipping. But it’s a start, eh?
Dank an akitayo für den tipp!

You can also get a decent GERMAN Pre from SIMYO, which belongs to e-Plus !!!

Great! And with the QWERTZ to QWERTY modification the keyboard is not a problem anymore... See http://forums.precentral.net/gsm-pre/210321-how-permanently-change-qwert... for details
I purchased mine via Expansys (www.expansys.com.au) and they shipped this to Australia within 7 days.. Very happy with the transaction and would recommend this retailer as well.
Do all phone functions work when using the phone outside of areas where it is sold? Eg. can i use the app store or get webOS upgrades...not worth it if not.
I can confirm that the app catalogue does not work outside of the approved countries, unless you purchase an approved carrier SIM card and activate the phone using that first.
I don't know why this is posted as new. Amazon.de is selling the Palm Pre since October!
The link you posted is to a shop inside Amazon. Amazon also sells the Pre for 475 Euro. I prefer the security that Amazon offers me and I would buy it there and not from this small shop inside Amazon.
As I said before, this is nothing new!
1st - I do not see necessity for QWERTZ => QWERTY modification. I use German Prē for couple of weeks already, and things that I miss are proper navigation, selection, backspace working while keyboard in Alt mode, and full set of Sym chars, which would support at least those special characters, which can be found in EU languages (that's on typing side, never mind direct PC sync to Linux, and loads of app features, which are missing!).
2nd: it's _NOT F#$&G FAIR_!!! I bought mine for 531 EUR (including Touchstone (which has "pulsating charge" issue)).... But that's the early adopters fee we addicts pay... :-/
I also purchased this phone via Expansys and received it no problems to New Zealand. Extremely hacked off that the app catalogue does not work after the 1.3.1 update! Worth mentioning that the phone does not work as advertised unless you use with an approved SIM card in a approved country.
