The Translation app for the Pre by roar utilizes Google Translate and works with over 30 languages. Plus, after you've gotten your translation up you can tap the little paper airplane icon to automatically start a new SMS or IM in the messaging app on the Pre. Great work, roar!
The homebrew app scene is slowly picking up steam as we add more applications to our Palm Pre Homebrew App section in the forums. In addition to the above Palm Pre Translator app, we also have a new Palm Pre Notification Sounds App by Kaerey, a quick Lotto Number Generator by mapara, and the (rooting-required) Flashlight App for Pre by PreGame. Stupendous stuff from all and we're looking forward to more!
To get the apps, simply register for the site, log in, and click email attachment on the ipk file on the first post.
Update: Note that the email-install method no longer works in 1.04, so if you want it, be sure you install before you upgrade.

I'm sorry, I have to comment on apps like this. As a language educator, I constantly have to beg people NOT to use translators such as this. THEY DON'T WORK. Online/computer translators have no idea what you really mean and they make literal translations that 90% of the time don't make sense. To give you an idea of how horrible they are, type in a short paragraph in English. Have it translate it to another language, then have it take the translation and convert it back to English. The English you get in the end will be a mess.
A meesy translation is often better than no translation. Not everyone is a language educator or knows multiple language, and these tools are helpful for simple communication.
Awesome app! So cool to see a homebrew app with so much potential like this! It could easily be in the App Store!
For certain word look ups Im sure common sense and basic knowledge of the language you are converting would prevail.

That looks to be about 90% correct. At least S/He was partly correct.
Love my Pre, need someone to Homebrew an app so that I can keep track of my purchases and balance my checkbook. I had downloaded an app on my BB and I miss it tremendously...Know of anything?
Dieter you should know better and give a dutch example not an ugly german one ;)
How can I save this app to my pre if I have update to 4?
