My top five Palm Pre Accessories are very straightforward - I like to cover the basics first. Our Palm Pre Accessories forum have been very active with accessory talk and I figured I'd chime in with my top picks. Far be it from me to dictate what you should get for your Pre, but what I'm listing here are the five things that, for me, are essential for my Pre experience.
Let's see what we've got, shall we?
1. Touchstone (duh)
I have a sneaking suspicion that Palm intends for every Pre user to have and use a Touchstone. The door over the charging port is so fiddly, the battery is slightly sub-par (let's be honest), and the standard battery door is a fingerprint magnet.
Compare that experience to the Touchstone experience. No plugs whatsoever, a nice matte-finish battery door, and charging your Pre is as simple as setting it on your desk or nightstand. I couldn't imagine using a Pre without a Touchstone.
Not to brag, but I do have two - one for the office and one for home. If I could get the thing to work reliably in my car I'd have three.
[Touchstone Kit Available now for only $49.95, standalone Touchstone is only $39.95.]
2. Seidio 1350 mAh Battery
I just mentioned that the Palm Pre's stock battery is sub-par. That's mostly true - it's barely sufficient for me to get through a day of moderate use. I'm not ready to compromise the Pre's super-small form factor by going to the bigger 2600mAh extended battery, but the Seidio 1350 mAh battery suits me just fine.
It's basically the difference between biting my nails at 8pm, hoping that I can read that last email and knowing that I'll be able to make it home with some charge left. Under heavy use I still need to top off throughout the day, but I still have the original battery as a spare in a pinch.
[The Seidio 1350 Extended Battery is available now for $44.95. Real road warriors might consider the bulkier but longer-lasting 2600 battery.]
3. Screen Protector
Yes, it's true, I scratched the screen on my original Pre. Since then I've learned my lesson and applied a screen protector. Some people prefer to go with full-body protection, but I'm comfortable just protecting the screen.
[SPE Screen Protectors are Available for $14.95 for a three pack.]
4. Car Charger
Detecting a theme here yet? Power management on the Pre is a big deal. I have plenty of micro-USB wall chargers hanging about, but I needed a decent car charger that works well with the Pre.
Keith's review of the Palm Car Charger inspired me to pick one up and I agree - it's small, it works. It's also nice that it's a standard USB port if I want to use it to charge another gadget.
[The Palm Car Charger is Available Now for $19.95]
5. Bluetooth Headset
Glory be, the Palm Pre has a 3.5 mm headset jack that works with standard hybrid headphones, but I prefer to use Bluetooth with the Pre since it's so convenient to toggle off and on.
I can't recommend 'the best' headset anymore than I can recommend 'the best' smartphone or 'the best' car. It all depends on your personal needs. Noise cancellation nuts should take a look at the latest Jawbone Prime headset, but the lack of buttons on that kit bother me. Big talkers will probably want the sound quality and battery life of the Plantronics Voyager Pro
I use two different headsets. When I'm biking I use the Plantronics Voyager 855 Bluetooth Stereo Headset. It gives me A2DP music over Bluetooth (yes, I leave the lefthand earbud out for safety!), but isn't great for noise cancellation or sound quality. For day to day I use the Motorola H15, it's neither the latest nor the greatest for noise reduction and sound quality, but I can't let it go because I love that when you close the microphone, the little sucker turns off.

How about you?
What's in your top 5?

I have all of the same accessories besides the Motorola H15. I really liked my old Motorola, so I might check into that.....
Dieter - Does the 1350mah battery work on the touch stone. I know the 2600mah doesnt for obviouse reasons.
I would also suggest the Seidio snap on Innocase for the Pre. I do not like to carry around a naked phone and it protects the phone well form bumps and and accidental drops. It doesn't add any bulk to the phone and is compatible with the Touchstone.
The 1350mah battery works with the Touchstone. I use it and it charges just fine.
I would suggest the Jabra SP700. This is (imo) a must have for the car. Call clarity is perfect, along with battery life and usability. I ask callers how I sound and they say perfect...why? They don't even know I'm on a speaker phone.
what is the diff between the stock battery and the 1350mah battery?
is it a few hours or a handful of minutes?
my stock battery can barely make it 12 hours. if i am roaming, it can't even make it 6....
I have the 1350 and the touchstone and they work awesome together without any problems, I am using the JawBone 2 for bluetooth and Bang & Olufsen EarSet 3 for my mp3 headphones, but it also has the mic so i can also use it to talk. It is worth every penny.
http://www.bestskinsever.com/servlet/the-143/Palm-Pre-Skin/Detail. this is all u need keeps it brand new
Does the 2600mah battery work with the seidio holster?
motorolla t505 car kit is awesome! can transmit through the radio, which means you can use pandora or listen to your music saved on the phone in stereo through the radio. got one on ebay for 50 bucks :) you can get it on newegg for around 65, but i think they are out of stock right now
Why doesn't the 2600 work with the touchstone? Before they released it their marketing materials touted that it was being designed to be touchstone compatible, but the second it was released that changed with no explanation as to why...
The problem is not the battery itself, it's the battery cover. The battery being bigger, you need to use the oversized cover that comes with the battery which isn't Touchstone compatible.
I dont own a Pre yet, but im waiting for verizon to bring it on! When I do... i'll pickup all above mention but the screen protector i'd totally go with http://www.zagg.com/. I have their stuff on all my gadgets and they last years without issue (at least so far). I'd highly recommened their protection over any other. I'm sure if you tested them head to head hands down zagg would win.
just my 2 cents.
Again, there is NO VZW version confirmed yet. I would be VERY surprised if it were to happen at all. There is not ONE phone on VZWs closed, walled garden network that has even HALF of the access that the Pre would -require- to operate on.
If the Seidio 1350mah doesn't have an issue, which one do you prefer (Seidio 1350mah or Amzer 1400mah)?
Thanks,
Robert
I used the Seidio 1350mAh battery for a bit - it did give me a bit longer battery life, but it required the "sliver of paper" fix to keep the battery in place.
I've switch to the Amzer 1400mAh battery ... it fits properly in the Pre (no sliver of paper needed), it works with the Touchstone, and it provides me an unexpected longer operating time given that it is only 50mAh larger than the Seidio.
I keep looking at the 2600mAh battery (or the even bigger one from Amzer) with longing, but I really love my Touchstones (I have them scattered everywhere!). If the battery doesn't work with the Touchstone - then I'm not touching it ;-)
Dieter, a slight correction to your Touchstone bit about "no plugs whatsoever", which brings me to my question. What are you using to power the Touchstone? I'm growing weary of climbing under my desk to grab the cord every time I travel and/or sync.
Thanks.
The touchstone *is* wireless charging. You do not need to connect any wires/cables to the Pre.
If you want or need an additional cable, then simply buy an additional microusb cable. They are quite cheap.
Now, for as much as the damn touchstone costs, they SHOULD have included a cable and wall wart... but that is a different issue.
Motorola S9-HD
The best-sounding A2DP headset, that ALSO handles calls. Amazing. Every Pre owner should have one.
This is my favorite too!!! I just wish bluetooth was allowable on an airplane.
My top 5 are
#1 The touchstone (about to buy me a 2nd one)
#2 My InvisibleShield from Zagg for the front only
#3 Seido SpringClip holster (1st one that covers audio jack)
#4 Motorola P790 recharging kit
#5 SPE Micro USB Charge-n-sync cable
I'm using the Seidio 2600mAh battery with no GPS and leaving Wifi on - medium to low use (a little email - hotmail, a fair amount of web browsing). No problems. Just incredible long-lasting power. Before I'd get down to 50%-40% using all the power conserving tricks. Now I barely see the difference at the end of the day. Doesn't get hot either (but does look a little like a marshmellow) so either the battery mass sucks up the extra heat or just protects my hand better. I haven't put the petal to the metal with high use, but I can easily get two to three days of use before I think to tank up.
I'm waiting for the Touchstone to drop in price. Hopefully it will after a few months.
These are the nice MUST HAVES for the Palm Pre in order of importance:
1) Touchstone Charger
2) Invisible Shield by ZAGG for screen protection
3) Bluetooth - Plantronics Voyager Pro (excellent reception and good battery life, problemless pairing)
4) Body Glove side case with belt clip. (Generic from Walmart, but fit the phone almost perfectly, a bit loose but good fit)
5) Palm USB Car Charger
1. Touchstone charger
2. Phantom Skinz (screen only)
3. Extra microUSB cables - It was wrong of Palm to not include a cable and charger plug with the Touchstone.
4. Microfiber cloth for cleaning of smudges.
What are you using to holster your pre with the 2600 mah?
Those of you that have it.
1) Touchstone(s)
2) Amzer 1400 mAh battery
3) Altec Lansing Backbeat 903
4) mVox MV900 (Goes back to my old Treo 700p)
5) Sprint Car Charger (Just bought the Palm charger, hoping to get a touchstone working in the car, but it looks like the thing's DOA :< )
1: Touchstone charger.
2: Boxwave crystal clear touch screen protector
3: Vaja ivolution deco belt clip case
4: V-Moda vibe duo headphones
5: empty :(
Anyone else having issues with bluetooth and the plantronics 855? It pairs fine, but doesn't see the 855 or the 855 isn't receiving communication from the Pre until I turn off bluetooth on the Pre and then back on.
I can second the Jabra SP700 recommendation. It can also rebroadcast the audio (music, phone, podcasts, and nav) from the Pre to the car stereo via an FM transmitter.
One gripe I have about Palm's accessories, the Touchstone and the car charger in particular, is that while they are technically "standard USB interfaces" they make it so the jacket around that "standard interface" needs to be so small that only their cables will work. I had to shave the jacket of the standard USB cable I use to charge the Jabra SP700 so it would fit in the Palm car charger.
That being said, Palm's name brand accessories sure are sexy looking!
1. Touchstone Charger(s) One in my car and one at home...saving up to put one in the office.
2. Invisible Shield (Front Only)
3. Belt Case
4. Extra Battery
5. Bluetooth (Plantronics Voyager for everyday use and Insignia Stereo for music/movies)
Touchstone, old Bluetooth stereo headphones, home/car chargers, Touchstone (the one I use as a mount in the car), & I love the included earbuds.
Special mention to my Jawbone, which sees less use b/c I'm usually using BT stereo, and the spare batteries Sprint gave us.
My top 4 are as follows:
1. phantomskinz full body protection (no worries about scratches)
2. microsoft sync allows bluetooth streaming in my car
3. touchstone (dont own one but its cool as beans)
4. 2600mah extended battery, allows you to use all of the phone's features without hesitation
Hi joejoe1!
You have a microsoft sync that allows bluetooth streaming in your car? Would you kindly elaborate? Thanks!
Also, is there one bluetooth headset option for hearing phone/music/movies&tv/SprintNav ? Or does your car solution do all of this? My little motorola headset only hears the phone.
1. Touchstone (I have 3 for two Pre's)
2. Sedio 1350mAh battery
3. Palm leather sidecase
4. Palm car charger (works with Touchstone in car)
5. Phantomskinz (front only)
I have a Motorola HS850 bluetooth headset, but I use it less than the Palm leather sidecase so it would be my #6.
I would go with the Invisible Shield instead of any screen protector that is sold in packages of three. If it has to be replaced, it's scratchable, and those scratches can still damage the Pre screen. I've had an IS on my Treo for almost two years. It looks like new, and has a lifetime warranty. And the IS is almost the same price as the package of three screen "protectors," and is much more durable.
1. Touchstone Charger
2. Plantronics Voyager Pro Bluetooth headset, this is the one. Excellent call quality and excellent noise reduction. It's rated #1 for this year and with good reason.
3. Palm Leather Slide case. The little pull tab was hard to get use to, but it grows on you.
4. Will probably be a battery or front scratch protector.
5. Sprint Everything Data, while it may not be an accessory, it is great
My favorite is a spare battery and palm's spare battery charger.
1) Touchstone x 2: one for home, one for car/work
2) Rocketfish car charger: modded USB to fit Touchstone
3) Bodyguardz front : NO ORANGEPEEL ! Also slick enough for gesture swipes.
4) Plantronics Voyager 855 : bluetooth with stereo or single side option. Good battery and sound.
5) Griffin 3.5 mm male to male cord : it stretches ( like an old phone cord ) and allows me to hook up to my JVC kaboom box for a porta-party !
Honorable mention : free spare battery courtesy of the fine folks at Sprint.
How'd you get a spare battery? Complained about the poor battery life? (o_O)
1. Touchstone
2. My car stereo's bluetooth (turn on car, music starts, able to do remote controls, turn car off music gets paused, does phone also)-ok ok, a rather expensive accessory if you were to buy a new car!
3. Phantom Skinz screen protector (just great)
4. Palm belt clip side case (is well protected)
5. Palm car charger (works with Touchstone)
I enjoy stereo bluetooth I am now looking into some stereo bluetooth headphones so I don't have to take the phone out of the case to listen to audiobooks or music.
So, I somehow got a few scratches on my screen too...I did not drop it or anything, I assume my nail got it. How did you go about getting a new pre???? Also, have you heard of anyone experiencing the clock on their phone being off??? Mine is consistently 3 minutes fast and I have done both a hard and soft reset.
2x touchstones
full-body zagg invisible shield
sprint car charger
monoprice micro usb cables
Glad to see someone else using the plantronics 855. Walmart sells it for $120, or you can go to Amazon and get it for less than $40.
1) Two Touchstones..office and home/travel
2) BestSkinsEver total protection...(one already gave its life in extreme interaction with keys in my pocket..but saved the Pre)
3) the Palm USB charger extra for the extra Touchstone
4) V-Moda Vibe-Duo for music and conversation. This also works to feed Sprint Nav voice directions while on a motorcycle.
5) Spare battery from Sprint when I did exchange.
6) Gotta count MyTether and all the homebrews as essential accessories. I donated to Aonic for mytether.
7) monoprice USB cables...a bunch of them around.
I only have two accessories so far.
1) BestSkinsEver. It is cheaper than the InvisibleSkin and performs the same function equally.
2) 2600mAh Seidioextended battery. I see no point in having the Touchstone since I only need to charge my phone once a day (or two days). I don't even really need a car charger or bring a charger to work since the battery will easily last a full day - I do have an old mini-USB charger (with the stupid little micro-USB adapter) at work and in the car in case of emergencies. IMO, the bigger back makes the phone fit better in your hand and it is easier to slide the phone open. Also, since it has a matte finish, it doesn't leave any fingerprints/scratches like the factory one.
My car radio has built-in bluetooth so I can answer phones while driving. I don't need a bluetooth headset anywhere else.

Has anyone ever heard of a bluetooth device that plugs in to your car stereo auxillary jack that will stream music from your Pre into the aux jack thereby playing the music in the speakers of your car? Is that even possible? Thanks.
