Hello and welcome to our latest rumorpalooza. We're receiving so many incoming rumors with so much information that it's all a bit of a mess. Let's get started and see if we can't make some sense of it all.
First up, que180 in our Pre Forums notes that our favorite Sprint Blogger is teasing us a bit with the image you see at right. Whether it represents a not-so-subtle hint, a good guess, or blatant mockery, we can't say for sure.
Next up, we've received a couple of tips from Sprint employees with regard to the marketing materials they're expecting. Right now, each store's "Planogram" is set to expire on June 6th. A Planogram is essentially a kit of all the signage and merchandising for a store: where the accessories are to be located, where the signs go, and which phones get preferential placement in the store.
Burnett follows this up by noting that all current rebate forms need to have a receipt that falls between April 16th and June 6th:
Mail-in Rebates Requirements:
Take advantage of our Mail-in Rebate offers and save a bundle on your new phone.
Purchase your phone on Sprint.com or by phone through Sprint Customer Service.
1 to 2 yr. contract (for new and upgrading customers).
PDA, BlackBerry and smartphones - Requires one of the following plans or add-ons:
Simply Everything or Simply Everything Family plan
Everything Data or Everything Data Family plan
Data Premier Add-on
PRO Pack Add-on
Fill out the form in its entirety.
Include your sales receipt, email receipt, online order summary printout, or packing slip. Must be dated 4/16/09 - 6/6/09.
Your rebate must be postmarked no later than 6/20/09.
Cash your rebate within 90 days of issuance.
Now, Sprint stores go through these sorts on changes on a very regular basis, so we're not looking at iron-clad guarantees that these June 6th deadlines mean a big June 7th launch. On the other hand, it would certainly fit pretty well, no? Remember, though that this is Sprint's biggest launch in years, perhaps ever, so there's no reason they couldn't quickly adjust any of the above to accommodate a different launch date.
Thanks to everybody who sent in all these tips!

Its definitely coming out on June 7.
or before. ;)
June 7th, aka palm fail day
June 6 is D-day, June 7 will be forever known as "Pre-Day."
Tasteless. As much as I'm anticipating the Pre, that is simply rude to the memory of all those who gave their lives on D-Day.
June 7th happens to be my birthday, and I know what I'm getting myself to celebrate!
Tasteless is your ignorance of what D-day actually means. D-day is used by the military to refer to ANY DAY that they are referencing, not just that one day in 1944.
LMAO but hopefully true
I am so tired of all this waiting! Why not just announce the damn date and price? Give folks an opportunity to save up. How could that hurt? I mean look at nintendo wii. People knew that was coming out a long time before it was released. It did not stop people from camping outside of game stop to get one.
Just stop this foolishness already.
Well seeing that most of us have known about this phone since Jan, weve had plenty of time to save up, if ur still waiting on a release date to save up then, smh.
What are you talking about? OK smart guy save up how much? How much is the phone gonna cost? How the hell do you save for something if you don't know the cost or when it will be released?
Have you ever thought about the fact theat the average consumer does not spend all day looking at engadget or precentral? Very few people I know have even heard of the Palm Pre. They know about the iphone because of apple's built in brand recognition but Palm?
Come one man...think before you talk.
If u replied that quick to my comment then u must check engadget or precentral alot. Point is we know this phone isnt going to cost $100 bucks, we also know the average cost for a phone these days, so if you need to save up, then common sense would to be to have atleast $300 ready.
Lol, whats wrong with this guy? Every "phonehead" has know about this phone for 6 months, you should have started saving back in January lol.
More like $200 new customer pricing.
I have a few hundreds set aside since January just in case. If there is money leftover hopefully it will be enough for a second Touchstone. My anniversary is in June so hopefully it is $150 so I can give the gift of an upgrade to my fiance. June is still a few weeks away I suggest tucking $100 a week under the mattress now if you haven't already.
I wish my fiance would buy me the phone:(
So, Palm should not have announced Pre, and you'd likely be walking around now with a 2G Curve and have saved $100 in the process. Effectively, by your own cashflow standards, you'd be rich!!
Something worth buying is something worth waiting for.
"Give folks an apportunity to save up."
6 months isnt long enough?
ditto, lol
I think the answer is easy as to why they have not announced:
1) They still do not know, or
2) They have paid someone big bucks to do the announcement for them (Survivor, etc.)
Let's assume they know, everything is ready to go, what advantage do they have by not letting the information out? They can not say that all the "excitement" will be over, because the "excitement" will change from anticipation to downright drooling knowing what the date and price is.
There is no way they will NOT release this after June 30th, that could be a death nail, so it is 7 weeks away from the latest release date, why not let everyone know?
Now lets see if there are any announcements from Sprint and/or Palm this Thursday the 7th to see if the pre-order rumor is true or not. Sprint.com aready shows me eligable for the $150 off even though I got the Instinct in June of last year!
Sprint probably feels sorry for giving you such a crappy phone!
I've had no problems with it at all. My wifes Centro on the other hand locks up all the time when calls come in the the down part of the d-pad no longer works. That kinda scares me with the Pre but no d-pad to mess up now. That and can't complain about free PAM on the Instinct. What problems have you had?
Centro is under warranty.
I know it is under warrenty (plus we have EPT on both phones) but in the past I've ran into trouble when you swap out your phone as a service center the system will restart your upgrade eligability date even though you did not upgrade. I think they have made some chages and that no longer happens but did not want to take a chance and not be able to upgrade her phone once the Pre launched. CS fixed it in the past but I try to avoid calling them when ever I can.

REALLY???? I hope this goes for everyone cause I really don't want to wait till August 4th to get my PRE!!!!!
If you're a sprint premier member you can get the full upgrade discount after just 1 year. Check on sprint.com. You'll have to re-up for 2 more years tho.
Well I was saving up my cash since Januray for the Pre but bills had to be paid and all my extra cash I got left from taxes is almost gone! So I need to know a freaking price and date so I can know what to save and how much I need to work!
Here is some information to chew on:
"BREAKING NEWS: This just in from a close 'ninja' pal. Sprint's business unit has confirmed that they have already been training with the Palm Pre via an online training module. This would include all managers and personal related to the Palm Pre above the retail sector. This does not include the 'store advocates' as previously mentioned in our other posts.
The Business Unit managers have been training online with the Palm Pre for a couple of weeks and a few of the Sprint staff have been allowed to take home the Pre for full evaluation use. This explains the many sightings of the Palm Pre in the wild. While unconfirmed at this point, the May 7 store training is NOT official by any means and but was a date suggested. This has also been confirmed with an 'advocate' at the store level. But I was told that the training will be at the store level shortly and that the June 7, 2009, is a possible release date. I was also told to be ready for a 'super' ad blitz unlike any we have seen by Sprint/Palm."
http://www.prethinking.com/home/2009/5/5/sprint-business-unit-now-traini...
I can confirm MOST of this in regards to 'store advocates' not really knowing when they can actually demo the device. The closest corporate retail sales office said they are supposed to train on the 'pre' SOMETIME this month, but dont and wont know when.
The representitive also hinted that most often than not, they get very little play/instructional time before a release.
Most of the cool apps Apple advertises are not unique to Apple. Give it a few months and don't forget to check third party sites.Thats where the best Palm Apps traditionall are. But, Apple does everything they can to block third party sales, they even block stuff in their own store.
Just saw an iphone commercial on tv & it made me wonder if the pre will have many cool apps as the iphone! I check this site on a daily basis & have yet to see more info on apps.
The phone isn't even out yet!! The iphone didn't have many apps before it was released. Nor would just about any phone.
I don't think it will initially (just as the iPhone didn't have many initially). But after the launch, who knows?
The turn around time on WebOS apps is going to be so rapid that, although the store probably won't have much initially, it's going to fill up QUICK.
I think we were all hoping for an earlier release. Looks like that's for naught. It's frustrating, we are screaming here about how BONEHEAD this move is. Seems no one at either Sprint or Palm are listening. I want to desperately want to be a fan and sub of the Pre. This has all the markings of a Marketing disaster. Think of New Coke mixed with the debut of the Edsel. Now if this is the final nail for sprint we might have Tmobile step up and buy the rest before VZW gets a chance. Then its LTE to merge the systems. I do not want to see VZW get any bigger.
LOL, pack up your homework and don't be late for the short bus. The only people screaming for an early release were willing to take a phone that had not been tested or debugged and had not applications ready.
Sprint and Palm are releasing the phone as fast as they can. Their lives depend on it. If you don't like the timing, show your brilliance and kahonas and buy elsewhere.
We'll not tolerate your Pre-Menstrual tantrums any longer.
Ha ha ha, New Coke was a mistake. BB Storm was a disaster by releasing early. Palm/Sprint has a better quality track record than Blackberry/Verizon. Make it worth the wait Palm.
Hear hear!
Take your time and do it right. I'd rather wait until September for a home-run phone that 'just works' (okay, is as bug-free as a 1st gen device can be) than one that was rushed and released as early as possible.
I fully plan on waiting at least two months after whatever date the Pre is actually released before getting one. I like cutting-edge, but 1st-day for a 1st-gen device is a bit too risky for me.
sleepy
Alright so does this mean my $150 that i have to upgrade because iv been on w/ sprint will expire after 6-6-09? or that i cant use it on the pre after 6-6-09?
Can i still get another $150for signing up for a 2yr contract after 6-6-09?
lol someone help me out with this ^^^^
Of course you'll have your $150. Stop FREAKING out!! You upgrade doesn't expire.
Not freakin out im just jonesing for a pre already! haha
it sounded like some trickery perhaps in the dealo about the dating of receipts and such.. :-/
Today I went in to a Sprint retail store to ask if they were going to be carrying the pre. The lady replied yes, and then proceeded to tell me it would be out in June, but wouldn't tell me any more than that.
wow, thanks for the breaking news
Do you think Palm is waiting for the cost of the new iPhone to leak or to be announced so that they can price their phone competitively with it?
Just a thought on why the price hasn't been addressed yet.
they just want us to do alot of wondering..
It reminds me of the jj abrams trailer for that movie that opened on 1-18-08 called cloverfield.. mysterious trailer that make you want to know and see more.. haha
Good point, but I hope the Pre doesn't leave us wondering after it comes out, like Cloverfield did. ;)
the current MIR offerings ending on june 6th has nothing to do with the pre. every couple of months they change pricing schemes and MIR amounts and that is ALL this indicates. we need to just release this stupid phone already so all you people stop with your hair brained rumors and theories.
