ImmaSlave4U in our Palm Pre Forums and Frantz on Twitter point us to this blog post by somebody claiming to be an insider at Sprint Customer care. While it's certainly possible that we're looking at a fake here, the detail of the information and the slide above point to it being authentic. The post contains a smorgasbord of information about the Pre, much of it already known. Some of the information is quite interesting, however.
During setup, the Pre/webOS apparently creates a "Palm profile," which allows the Pre to update device software, download updates to the App Catalog, restore contacts, data, and applications, and remotely wipe the device. The backup service applies only to certain data stored on the phone: contacts, calendars, account information and preferences, and downloaded apps.
The author rules out the Phone as Modem option, claims that a data plan (either Simply Everything Data or Business Data) will be required, mentions a 'first use' walkthrough app, and says the webOS can handle up to eight email accounts. He/she also claims that Palm will release a "Data Transfer Assistant," which is a desktop app for exporting data from the Palm Desktop to the Pre -- not a sync, just a one time export.
As for Sprint services, the author states "The Pre phone does NOT support Sprint Music, Sprint PictureMail, or Sprint Digital Lounge."
Finally, as you can see above, the post contains a slide with information about what to do to if the Pre slows down, ranging from closing apps to erasing data on the phone. There's also a new app called "Quick Tests" mentioned, which appears to run diagnostics.
Finally, over at the sprintgurus forum, the author claims that the Pre comes loaded up with a remix of Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and (in a move that would surprise Steve Jobs) a preview of Pixar's upcoming movie "Up."

Pre-tty cool! I always love a good partial reset if I do say so myself.
If Palm makes the same mistake as Apple and releases this phone without MMS capabilities, then they can expect to go out of business. This would be a huge mistake for Palm and Sprint and I hope they come up with a solution before launch.
I dont get whats so hard about having picture mail.
Didn't they say the phone would have MMS support (sending and receiving) at the CES announcement? I remember them saying that, but it might all be in my head.
I believe that the the Treo Pro has a version of Arcsoft MMS on it instead of picture mail. Therefore its resonable to think the pre would have the same functionality.
I don't think it's an issue of MMS. Sprint uses a proprietary Picture Mail process which requires you to go to a website to view pictures. Hopefully this means that Sprint PictureMail is out the door and regular...industry standard MMS is in.
I agree with BIP. I have been waiting patiently for this phone, but if it is released without MMS support I will turn around and walk the other way. Sprint Picture Mail is already a poor performer at best, but not even giving me the option makes me just want to take my hard earned money elsewhere.
guys come on! MMS and Sprint Picture Mail are two different things. The tech specs on the sprint pre page say IM, SMS, and MMS. SprintPre Specs
Sprint Pre Specs
When did they demo MMS????
Possibly its because the Pre doesn't support Sprint's applications for picture mail because the Pre has its own app?
MMS may be built in and they did not have a need to port Sprint's add on apps for this purpose?
Side note if the trailer for UP is on there I would assume it would be released before the movie comes out which is 5/29 :)
I believe Babylon A.D. trailer came on the BB Storm. That movie came out in Aug. and the BB Storm came out in Nov. So i dont think that necissarily matters.
Yep. And the Blackberry Bold was released on November 4th 2008. This phone included a trailer of "Speed Racer", which was released in May 2008.
MMS functionality is built into the same messaging client that text messages use. The phone has MMS support. Stop questioning it. The question you should be asking is is WTF is it going to be release! CAN I HAZ PRE NOW!
Whoa, looks like the Pre has a memory bug they can't fix that slows it down. You may have to do a Partial Reset and loose all of your contacts/calendar. Sure hope the cloud backup works well. Anyone worried?
No. This does not suggest a "memory bug" at all.
It suggests that Palm is planning to easily manage the inevitable shortages of resources than any device, by definition, may have. No machine has limitless memory and processing power. If you run a lot of apps and performance begins to degrade, it is nice to have an easy way to kill a few and get performance back.
At least Palm is thinking ahead.
My Blackberry has an easy method too - Pull the battery.... lol
Agreed. It's just a procedure for people to following if the system slows down. There are similar procedures for almost all of these types of devices (even windows, mac and linux computers have FAQs on what to try if your system slows down). It's all pretty standard stuff.
No phone as modem?!?!? What the hell?
What he said was that it didn't need to be an option because an "Everything Data" plan was required.
Correct?
Sprint has basically phased out all phone as modem plan(sans business accts.). This however does not mean you can't use the phone as a modem, just that there isn't a plan for it. I'm believe you just need unlimited data now.
I'm sure there will be a way to jailbreak the phone
I can deal with everything else, but the fact that no one's freaking out over the purported Simply Everything requirement scares me. I've been going on the assumption that I could keep my Data Everything plan - saving myself $360 a year over Simply Everything - is this wrong?
yes you can keep your data everything plan , SE is not required
Sprint claimed at CTIA that if you have an Everything Data plan, you will be fine. It's the equivalent to the the Everything plan minus the unlimited phone minutes.
If you're a current sprint blackberry user, your plan should pretty much work w/o any problems w/ the Palm Pre.
Thanks; if I'd actually read the linked blog I would've seen that, but kinda jumped the gun.
You'd think if you follow this site that you'd do your research or actually know things about it before crying through posts. The Palm Pre has been guaranteed to have MMS support since January when that feature was announced. All 3 of the Sprint services in the above article listed as NOT being supported by the Pre is because the Pre has native or first party apps for those functions and does not need Sprint to come up with a solution to those functions. Let me explain:
No Sprint Music Store because the Pre uses the Amazon MP3 Store natively right out of the factory, which is WAY better than the Sprint Music Store. Plus you can transfer files to ur computer and back which you no longer can do if you purchase songs from the Sprint Music Store, which are locked down to the device.
No Sprint PictureMail because the Pre supports MMS natively from the factory in its IM / SMS / MMS Messaging app. Finally us Sprint users will have TRUE MMS on the Pre instead of the crappy, slow and annoying Sprint PictureMail. The instant we open the message it should show the media, just like how its worked on other carriers for years now. Before on Sprint using PictureMail, you used to have to open the message, click on a link, and open a page in the web browser before you could view the media contained within the message.
No Sprint Digital Lounge because the Pre has its own native App Catalog to download content straight to the device.
So as you can see, the native functions for these 3 features are WAY better than the old Sprint alternative solutions to these functions on other Sprint devices. It is actually a HUGE plus to know that those 3 Sprint services will not be supported on the Pre because now we don't have to worry about those crappy services interfering with the awesome and much better ones that ship on the Pre.
So wait... there's going to be no ability to take a picture, then send it right to someone else's cell phone?
If this is the case, F this noise, I'm tired of my crappy Moto Q and its inability to do picture mail. I'm going to the Iphone if it's not there by the time my contract ends in September.
If the phone comes with a "preview" of the movie up....doesn't that mean the phone should be released before the may 29 release date of that movie???
What the heck is wrong with some of you?.... MMS and Sprint picturemail do the same thing. MMS is industry standard and WILL BE SUPPORTED ON THE PRE. Sprint picturemail is Proprietary, is buggy and is NOT NEEDED... WHY? because the Pre has MMS.
Well alot of phones that Sprint carries natively supported MMS from the start. Blackberry phones anybody? Despite supporting MMS, Sprint has them running through the Pic Mail service.
Sounds like you're made for the iPhone! You want it all, yet are a little slow.
Wow suomynonA you are a smart one... read the previous post for your answer.
Is there going to be any phone to desktop transfer of info for the MAC? ICAL and Address book? they mention PC to Pre but not MAC to PRE
I can tell most of the people commenting on the homepage either have never crossed into the forums or don't know how to read properly.
You should read everything you can before posting something that you don't know. You may lead to people believing your post and giving the wrong information.
I honestly couldn't care less about MMS or picture mail, but all this talk brings a question to mind: Does picture "sharing" work between the Pre and other Sprint phones? Is there some sort of translation-layer whereby if I send an MMS to another sprint phone, they receive it through Sprint's picture mail service? (and vice-versa)
Please do your research before wasting our time with really stupid questions. Seriously some of you shouldn't even be looking in to buying this phone if you are that dumb. Go ask yahoo answers if you wanna be dumb somewhere else.
You know its gonna be these dummies that bring the Pre down.
They're gonna buy it the first day it comes out, then whine on the blogs that there's no Sprint picmail or d-lounge despite the Pre providing better options, thus scaring away potential Pre customers who also don't do their due diligence.
That is why they NEED a Smart Phone!
After reading some of these comments, lets really hope palm and sprint do an excellent job of training their sales associates. They will need the training to teach new customers how to use their new devices. 90% of the people who buy these thing wont have a clue and are not Pre forum addicts like some of us.
They always do. Depends on the rep and their desire to really care. I work for Sprint and i have been checking out this phone since CES. Although I will probably get to play with it about a week or so before anybody else I have about a 90% chance i won't get to buy it for 3 or 4 months :/

sprint picture mail is free, what if sprint charges for mms that is not by sprint picture mail? Sprint needs the money, really bad, so................
Good grief people.
The Pre requires an "everything data" plan. Yes that includes MMS.
Ask yourself this question, if currently picturemail is free, why would Sprint charge you for a similar service which is true MMS? Especially since picturemail requires more maintenance than true MMS.
MMS, SMS, email, web,are all included in required Sprint Simply Everything Plan.
sprint picture mail is not free.
So how about us folks who have plans (NOT SERO, and NOT Simply Everything-named plans) but include unlimited data and texts...?
I already have a plan that includes everything the 69.99 SEP has but is about $30 less (and it's NOT a SERO plan..so don't lump me with the SERO folks). If Sprint locks down this Pre tight to SEP's then it's a HTC for me. No way am i doubling my bill.
I don't think we know for sure. There is a huge thread on SERO and other plans that may or may not be required.
I think we will just have to wait and see.
I think Sprint should require an 'IQ' test prior to purchasing the Pre.
They will never be able to sign up iphone customers if there was an IQ requirement.
MMS is picturemail... just called a different name on Pre
*for the slow people to understand*
If you have the following plans, you can get the Pre
* Everything Text
* Everything Data
* Simply Everything
Wanna correct my previous post..
Scratch out Everything Text.. it does not include data..
Is it possible that Palm is implemnting their own version of Blacberry Mesenger? That would be great, its the ONLY thing I'll miss when I throw my Curve away....
Well, that's unfortunate. I was really digging the Pre, but I'm not giving up SERO. Looks like it's time to find another phone...sorry Palm!
Eric, you aren't hurting any one else, but yourself. At least you giving it up will give rise to some one who does want it. Thanks for your contribution.
How am I hurting myself by making a decision that will ultimately save me over $700 over 2 years? I was willing to pay more for the Pre up front, up to $600 even. However, $1500 over 2 years plus $200 or so for the phone just isn't worth it to me for cell service. I use less than 100 minutes / 100 mb a month, so it's really not worth it for me to pay more than I am now.
That's a good point that I think a lot of people are missing.
I am psyched for this phone because it has just about everything I'm looking for in a device, plus more.
I do understand that the phone is not for everyone. Some people don't need all the features and want to use something else on another plan.
I think that's totally understandable and more power to them.
This goes for anything; computer, car, phone, etc... Get what fits your needs and you'll be happy. :)
on his post at sprintgurus.com he says the pre is released with pink floyd's wish you were here song and the trailer for the movie up. then he states "You can make your own assumptions from one of those, if you read between the lines". i think he was hinting at the release date. the disney movie Up comes out May 29th. I'm thinking that they would release the phone a little before that date if they're putting the trailer for it on the phone. that's of course if this guy is legit. here's the link to where he says what the video and music sample will be. http://sprintgurus.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315
people..please stop thinking that the $99 plan is the only option! there is a $69,$89 and a $99 plan depending how many minutes you want.
This is too funny! mms will be supported, just not sprint picture mail. All in all its good for us and our pockets. sprint really does have the best plans, I am concerned about the size of the phone. When you see it side by side the iphone, it looks good. Expanded, its longer and thin.
Picture mail is a MUST option for me with a phone...No MMS no buy....Come on! How hard can it be?
I love this blog and whole post on blog is very cool and luxury
Palm Pre with NO copy/paste from web pages - com’on that’s quite bad folks!!!!!!!
http://palmwebosblog.com/uncategorized/sprint-employee-leaks-palm-pre-fa...
can only hope for a EU WebOS 1.5 :) - since apple is also delivering quite big function changes in new software releases
Even Android 1.5 has copy/paste and search inside web pages now. Palm can you hear us?
So, it sounds like the PRE is not going to support Flash or Java Applets?
Don't most web pages use quite a bit of flash nowadays? So, doesn't that screw up web browsing on the phone.
Does the full java support negate the need for java applets?
Ok, to Eric, you can get the $69.99 dollar plan with the everything Data and get the Pre. The everything data does not mean the $99 Simply Everything Plan. All that is required is the Everything Data plan. You can get the Everything Data plan and approx. 400 minutes for $69.99 But please, don't get the Pre and leave it for me!
I'm well aware of the $69 plan. There's also a $59 plan which is the new SERO.
The plan now is $69 i such saw it. Not sure what everybody is saying.
