PreCentral launches Classic App Store

PreCentral Classic App StoreWe know that there are some of you out there that have a Palm OS app that you can’t do without. The folks at Palm and MotionApps also knew that, so they created the Palm OS emulator Classic so that you could still run Agendus and Epocrates and other Palm OS apps on your webOS device. But where oh where to get the apps? How about PreCentral? Yep, that’ll do. We’re pleased to be able to announce that PreCentral has partnered with MobiHand to create the PreCentral Classic App Store where you can browse and buy your favorite Palm OS apps and download them straight into Classic.

More than 150 apps are available from the PreCentral Classic App Store, several of them free. There are apps for the business and finance crowds, dozens of games, reference apps, and even apps for personal healthcare. Check it out at http://software.precentral.net

This makes me think that Palm should have bundled this app with the pre (or pixi). That would have gone far to silence the cries of "no apps" but then again maybe that would look like they weren't interested in fostering development for their new software...I don't think it would but I am not a market analyst. Maybe I should be :P

Anybody? Do you think it would have helped or hurt to ship the pre/pixi with legacy compatibility out of the box?

It would have helped. I am just waiting to see people whine about app prices now.

I just wish that Classic wasn't so expensive! Why does it have to be so much to use what we ALREADY had on our old phone?!? It's lame. I would not have worried about shortcomings on the Pre if I had been able to use Classic -but I do NOT support the robbery of the Classic pricing!!

I just wish that Classic actually... worked. It has been the most expensive, slowest, and buggiest app I have, particularly since upgrading to WebOS 1.2. I don't think there's any PalmOS app worth getting if it has to rely on a program as unreliable as Classic.

Classic works just fine for me, however I'm still on 1.1.3
Just downloaded the Metro PalmOS app, works just fine.
Only problem is the Classic Store is a real pain to navigate on a Pre, it's almost impossible to find your way around. I ended up using my PC to browse the apps and do the downloading.
10/10 for a great idea, but 1/10 for the way it been set-up.

I miss a clock app as good as PalmaryClock or BellTime. But running inside of Classic is useless. I don't want Classic running all the time just to have a great clock app. I want someone to write a great native clock app.
