Palm Pre to see Price Cut to $150?

So, the HTC Hero is coming to Sprint at $179.99, and the Pre is still at $199.99. What is Sprint to do? How about lower the price of the Pre by $50? Thanks to a generous tipster working at a Sprint "indirect partner retail dealer" (something like Best Buy Mobile or non-corporate Sprint stores), we can say that does appear as though it will be the case.

From September 8 to October 31, 2009, "indirect partners" will be able to sell the Pre for $149.99 after mail-in rebate. This information applies only to these indirect Sprint retail channels, though it seems reasonable that identical price cuts will take place via Sprint’s own channels (retail stores, telesales, and Sprint.com). And as usual, the price of admission comes with an Everything Data or Simply Everything plan attached.

You’ll also be able to grab a Palm Centro for $29.99, a Treo 755p for $99.99, Treo 800w for $49.99, and a Treo Pro for $199.99 (all new contract prices). Off contract prices for all Palm phones appear unchanged. Oh, and if your local non-corporate Sprint store has a Treo 650, Treo 700p, or Treo 700w laying around, they’ll be free on a new contract. But you know which phone you want (hint: check the website you’re reading right now).

Thanks Anonymous Tipster!

Update: The price drop is real, but only for the IPCS area, more details here.

Interesting... this would have been great when the pre was launched. It would've been $50.00 less than iphone. This would have bolstered sales by alot. I;m not complainig though i paid full price $599 for my phopne and it was worth every penny. i wanna see more pre"s out there and less Die-phones..lol

I disagree. People would have asked "why does this cost $50 less than the iPhone? It must be inferior."

My Treo 650 was $300 after rebates and such 6 years ago...how things have changed.

6 years ago, no one signed up for 2-year plans, either.

I did... the Treo 300 was worth a 2-year contract. It's still my favorite Treo out of them all.

I love the $50 fence sitters that want a phone more affordable than iPhone, even though the MONTHLY tax on lesser ATT service for iPhone is $20 MORE than
Sprint. Real "savvy" buyers there. But they did get half price undercoating for their iPhones, so what do I know.

Hmm... this seems to be a logical choice for Sprint and indirect partners, not only because of the HTC Hero but the NEW Palm Pre that is speculated to be coming soon.

I still believe the Palm Pre to be worth the full price of $199 that I paid for it, and superior to the HTC Hero, as nice a device as it is.

Any chance we'll see them drop the Simply Everything or Everything Data requirement for this phone? It's the only thing holding me and a lot of others I've with back from purchasing this phone :(

not a chance.

Oooh I cant wait for the NEW Pre...but i still love this one. It will probably have more GB. You have to progress.

What new Pre?

any guess as to when the "new" pre is coming?

uh.. The 800w is still being sold by Sprint?
I thought they discontinued that months ago yet it doesn't show on that list in the discontinued area?

I don't know, but that's a pretty good price for it. From what I recall, it's basically a fatter Treo Pro. I'm surprised the 755p is still $100.

There is still good demand for 700 series for professional power users. I might pick one up if I could figure out the upcharge to my account.

A Centro for $30, eh? Not bad. And $50 for a new Reclaim is pretty good, too. It's a nice phone with a slide-out keyboard and a 2MP camera. Reminds me of a slider version of the Lotus (also $50), which is a flip phone with qwerty.

I'll take a free 700p. It still does things the Pre doesn't do yet, (or never will).

Maybe a new Pre is coming with more memory.

Seems like there will be new WebOS phones out very soon - but a new Pre when this one is only 3 months old? Seems highly unlikely.

A new pre that has anything more than more memory would be a HUGE mistake by palm right now. I know i would be extremely PO if this happened. I can understand more memory or even gsm but that better be it for at-least a year. Also $150 sounds right I was one of those luck enough to get it at $99 (thanks best buy)

I agree, once they stop this BS everything data plan, Im buying the pre ASAP!

I have the free incoming 300 plan and dont EVER plan on giving it up! I was grandfathered from Next-to-hell, my bad, I mean Nextel.

Sprint if you are listening, offer a data plan ON TOP of existing plans. I'll be the first one to buy this phone.

Has Sprint gotten rid of the Power Vision add-on (~$10 or so)? I agree, though, that the Pre should be available to customers who have the data package even if they don't have and Everything plan.

I manage a indirect Sprint store and this pricing sheet looks like something Radioshack might use. None of my pricing sheets look like this and some of the information on there looks strange. Not to mention I've already received my September 8th pricing sheet and the Pre is still $200 after all rebates.

Cool....I get it.

I get a discount on all Sprint phones due to my work, but I still forked out $337 -- $100 MIR and a $100 dollar Visa Gift card, both mailed 180 after purchase making it $99 -- but I would've loved this notice 2 days ago when I bought the phone. I agree w/ questions the "low price" would've made but the little research I did, I found the Pre to be the better choice over the iphone (minus the App Store). I hope I've spread enough word to my friends about this device that the drop in price will get them to join so went have a giant app store as well.

I love my Pre... no fabrication, no lie.

"I approve this ad"

if the pre does go down $50 bucks within the month can i get that 50 bucks back? (bought my pre yesterday)

I am wondering the same thing that Joshwithachance is, I bought mine on Saturday and would be pretty aggravated if the price drop happened anytime soon. I guess if they refuse, we'll make enough fuss like what happened with the iPhone and give them no choice.

I can tell you this pricing sheet is from an IPCS affiliate dealer, so if you purchased your device at one of these stores there's a chance you might be able too. http://www.ipcswirelessinc.com/about/map.php gives you an idea where IPCS areas are.

Price break is no surprise.

Two weeks ago I asked my local Sprint store rep when the then current pricing deal was set to expire and was told 9-7-09. I waited, I thought we might see a Labor Day sale but 9-8-09 is close enough. Expect no furhter breaks until 10-31-09, if at all.

Pre 2.0? Maybe a memory card slot otherwise I don't expect anything until all the current software challenges are addressed. The Treo's all rolled out slowly

Can anyone confirm the price drop? I will be picking one up today if it's dropped, will post back if no one else has. Where is the preferred place to buy the Pre? Second-best place? Worst?

As of 7:30am PT Sprint.com is still listing the Pre at $200 after all rebates and 2yr contract. Unless they are planning and dropping it later today (which would be surprising I think) it may not be happening today/at all.

Price looks the same to me on their website.

Look at the chart, it doesn't say anything about the net price to consumer being $150 for the pre.

Any word of this out in the real world yet? I still see $199.99 at Sprint.com, RadioShack.com, and BestBuy.com

absolutely not am an employee of sprint and my material which shows pricing through october 31 of 199.99 after 100 mir

however now through october 31 sprint is giving an additional $100 credit for each line ported over to a pre. the credit is given after 30 days of activity on each line ported

My local best buy (murfreesboro, TN) has the pre on the shelf for $149.99. No mail in rebate. I think this is news since I keep hearing all the excitment about a price drop. It has been at this price for at least two weeks. (I'm in there alot.)

UPDATE The price is $199 for upgrade and $149 for a new customer. I called and asked.

The price has even come down even more. This is so good to see. I bought one for my wife.
