Some believe strictly in the theory of evolution. For some, it's creationism. There are those who delve deeper into the Great Chain of Being, where there's a place for everyone and everyone is in their place. Then there is intelligent design - a hybrid of evolution and creationism - where I believe the evolution of smartphones applies.
As you can see from the Twitter post above, eweek.com has posted an interesting and fun slideshow that, in the spirit of Darwin and in celebration of his 200th birthday, takes us back to the beginning when the first melding of PDA and cell phone emerged from the darkness. Of interesting note, the most evolved (and intelligently designed) smartphone is currently the Palm Pre! We here at Pre Central certainly don't need a consensus of the geek scientific community to tell US which smartphone sits at the top of the Great Chain of Being.

Do we really want the Pre to be the fat guy with the mocha??? Kinda scary... Doesn't really line up with the sleek, sexy, svelte Pre either...
Maybe if you think about it this way. As technology evolves, we get fatter. Before we had cars and TV remotes (or TVs for that matter) we were fitter. We had to hunt and such. Now with the Pre, we don't even have to hunt for data anymore. It's just there for us. So...prepare for fat hands and fingers. Over the next few years we'll loose the ability to even lift that cup of coffee. :-)
never read eweek before. Is it a big deal? seems like a good excuse for a slideshow that would make starbuckies smile.
Now y'see, you can't really have an evolution of the smartphone without having the Ericsson R380 listed. Came along in 2000 running EPOC release 5, and got alot of 'ooooh.... is that a phone' type responses.
