PopCap Working on Games for Pre

Bejeweled Palm Pre

Bejeweled on the Pre. Zuma on the Pre. Peggle on the Pre. All this may someday come to pass. In a recent interview with Pixels to Polygons, Garth Chouteau, Senior Public Relations Director from PopCap Games discussed the future of his company, including the ripe-for-expansion mobile gaming industry. Addressing new platforms such as webOS and Android, Chouteau said (around 15:15 in the podcast):

We have plans to support the Pre, as well as Android. There are games in the works for those devices. But it is certainly a kind of splintering of the market in some ways. I guess what I would say is, we think about platforms or prospective platforms in a couple of ways. One is: is this device right for one or more of our games? Is this the right kind of device for our games? Will it be a fun experience, and frankly as fun as it is on other platforms? And also, what is the audience for this particular device? And then certainly, but certainly not insignificantly, what is the install base?

Check out the rest of the interview over at Pixels to Polygons. Tell us: what games are you hoping for on the Pre?

Thanks to Joshua for the tip!

Alright! More content to use while on the toilet.

LMAO!!!!!

how these guys get this picture on the pre so nicely without knowing how the games will be?

It's called photoshop.

...yikes.

PEGGLE!!!

Chuzzle. That was my big time wasting game. I'm ashamed to admit that I've considered giving up the Pre to go back to my Chuzzle-playing WinMo phone.

Chuzzle is available for Palm OS... run it in Classic!

I'm not paying for Classic to run my old apps. :(

Tetris would be awesome to have!

Screw Bejeweled....gimme Peggle on the Pre and I'll be happy!

love the toliet comment LOL

I hope they make Dynomite for the Pre!

The only thing I miss about my old phone is Zuma... this could make the Pre complete!!

Bejeweled please. Now please.

but when?

Peggle! Must. Have. Peggle. :)

Zuma!
Even though it might run in classic, the interface is certainly optimized for the more precise resestive touchscreen. so an adapted version for the pre would be very welcome for me.
And MLT please (though I assume that might run just fine in classic)! :-)

Bejewled, Zuma, and Peggle...oh and Chuzzle would be awesome, too.

Actually, just bring all the Popcap games to the Pre. Then it'll just be wonderful...lol.

Man, I'm so excited for the apps to come! ::rubs hands together in anticipation...::

They need peggle, and plants vs zombies those games are amazing

Of course Peggle, and Plants Vs. Zombies would be nice. I know it's not Popcap, but I wish/hope Nom 360 Running Man would too. That game would be sick on the Palm Pre (and it definitely would work)!

i want a tower defense game.

Yeah, that's actually exactly what I took it to mean. I co-conducted that interview, and later on he goes on to elaborate that PopCap is never going to be the first company to ambitiously support a platform, that they want to see it progress and mature before they heavily support it. That being said, the fact that games are on the way at all proves that there is at least some confidence in WebOS. Let's just hope that sentiment is shared by other developers of this scale!

I didn't take the comments to be all that positive. Sure, there are some things in the works (which is great), but this talk of "splintering" signals to me that Chouteau isn't yet sold on the Pre.

My guess is that they'll release one or two (wonderful!), but will then wait to see how the Pre market ends up before spending much more time on it.

That's the challenge for the Pre. Everyone already knows that writing software for the iPhone is likely to payoff. That's not yet known for the Pre and, my guess, won't be known for a year.

Ironically, the lack of software will kill the Pre. So, software vendors waiting isn't going to work. Chicken, Egg.

BATTLETOADS!!!!!

Solitare

Peggle *drool*

PEGGLE!! And Bejeweled.

Tetris and Solitaire please. Tried both with the Home Brew Apps help, but my Vista 32 machine will not cooperate on the install.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
