The Pixi is going to ship with WiFi. Or at least that's what this humorously inaccurate ad on the Sprint website would have you believe. Unfortunately, the Pixi will indeed still begin shipping on the 15th without a WiFi radio on board. But oh, just imagine if that diminutive and vanishingly thin webOS powered handset were sporting a WiFi radio... I know a few folks who'd make the switch, they're just that enamored with the form factor.
Since it speculation about the omission of WiFi centers around it being a carrier stipulation, who knows, maybe we'll see it appear in subsequent GSM variations of the device.

I would switch although it would be like going back to my 700wx screen.
Is that a camera on the front? The hardware in this photo looks slightly different than what we're used to.
Thats a couple of snow flakes.
No, it's definitely a camera with a flash to the left. Top-left corner.
Either it's an older model render, or this is the GSM Pixi.
your wrong dude..... say it with me.... proximity sensor and ambient light sensor...
Booo-urns
WiFi should be a standard feature even if you give out a phone for free.
although it would be nice to have.... it would drive prices up on phone.... and at this point people are already complaining on the 99 price point of the pixi.... (which is a great price!)
IF PRICES CONTINUE TO GO DOWN THEN PHONES WILL CONTINUE TO GET CHEAPER QUALITY.....
i personally would not mind paying a premium for a device that has everything
You know, I'm over the WiFi thing. I'm sure that there will be times when I would want it, but I never have wifi on my Pre and it never sucks me down (it sucks the battery up too much anyway). The slower processor and smaller screen still hold me back a little, though.
I thought WiFi saved battery?
Only when your 3G signal is weak.
I've only seen 3G once since I bought my Pre 2 weeks ago, so WiFi is a must for me. Country bumkin am I :-)
the slower processor ia actually my biggest worry but it may not be so bad considering the smaller resolution of the screen.... less pixels equals less processing power needed
I'm just wondering, verizon mandated that all new smartphones have wifi, and verizon is getting the p121eww, which should be the pixi, so will the verizon pixi have wifi, or is the pixi not a smartphone?
Interesting and yes that looks like a front facing Camera and LED flash. I guess changes could be made before the final release...but they would have had to gone in a while ago. Phones aren't made overnight.
Either way, I'm excited...
again... its a proximity sensor and ambient light sensor...
Carrier restriction? So Sprint allows it on the Pre and advertizes it on the Pixi but at the same time prevents it on the Pixi? Doesn't make sense to me.
As far as the value of wifi - after having drPodder and the "Unthrottle Download Manager" patch, going back to no wifi would be liveable, but quite annoying.
Is that a front facing camera? Or simply a light proximity sensor? But then again, why two?
If the latter the wifi could still be plausible, but i seriously doubt that, sigh, we can dream...
Somebody used Copy & Paste. LOL. Weird that they would use a picture showing the Light sensor and proximity sensor so much.
If you turn the pixi around... grab it and turn... you will see the camera and the flash on the back
You know people in love with the form factor of the pixi? egh. I thought it looks ugly. Must be a 'to-each-his-own' kind of thing... although, a front facing camera would be sick!! ...in a good way. Vid chat!
it's "enamoured of" .. not "enamoured with"...nothing worse than the incorrect use of flashy words.. and that word's appearing everywhere these days, starting to bug me... there, I said it... it's off my chest..
merriam-webster: usually used in the passive with "of" or "with"
Sorry, but it looks like the English language has assimilated "with"
I distinguish between enamoured with - a mutual amour, and enamoured of - an active feeling, not necessarily reciprocated or even appreciated by its object.
And a vanity camera too?? Is this a photoshop spoof?
Please read the other comments rather than embarrassing yourself.
If it's anything like the Pre another oops is "run multiple apps smoothly" I translate that into no lag - HA, right.
Is there ANY chance it has a WiFi radio that could be activated later on Sprint? The ad did say WiFi "capable" not "with" WiFi. [That last line is now gone from the ad.]
sprint tends to do that. I thought they said the same about the Pre and tethering.
Hey wait just one min there bub The test pixie we received for testing does indeed have wifi
Meh?
wheres the proof?
WiFi is in the best interest of the carriers. It has you use far less data on the network, which saves them big $$ in not expanding 3G capacity. I am surprised that Sprint is not mandating WiFi on the device for that reason.
