Palm Pre Interactive Webcast: Dieter will be there!

Palm and Sprint are sending out special invitations to an interactive Webinar featuring the Palm Pre.  Dieter has been invited, so he'll be there to get some more Pre goodness!

Sprint and Palm invite you to attend the first in a series of
interactive Webcasts featuring Palm Pre from Sprint.

Join Fared Adib, Vice President, Device Operations & Logistics for
Sprint, and Matt Crowley, Product Line Manager at Palm, as they
provide a demo of Palm Pre on the Sprint 3G Network. They will walk
you through why the partnership between Sprint and Palm offers an
extremely compelling new device -- Pre -- and will change the way
customers view and use their wireless device.

Participation is limited and those who are lucky enough to get an invite should RSVP.  The Webcast is this month, but that's all I'll say about it.  Have fun Boss!! ;-)

Yeeeeaaah... Sprint knew better than to not include us.

Otherwise there would have been many roundhouse kicks directed in their general vicinity... They didn't want all that.

Is the date of the webinar confidential information?

From CNET: The Webcast starts at 11 a.m., Pacific on March 12 with 20 minutes scheduled for the presentation and 20 minutes allowed for Q&A.

thanks for the info Andrew :-)

I didn't post the date and time because I didn't know if I should. Glad to know that CNET put it out there though.

Nicely done... ;-) but i HOPE they surprise us

This was supposed to be an answer to Cary....

Didn't know if you should? Did the invitation self-destruct after 10 seconds? I was under the impression that this was a public news site. Now I feel all tingly ---I realize this is because it's a tech-specific-porno site.

I don't see any "new" information coming from this Webinar (hate that term). I'm sure the ONE single thing people will want to know is the ONE thing that won't be covered - RELEASE DATE. All other info will just be business as usual...

"thank you for participating in this webinar...we are excited to introduce the Pre to the market and we are going to discuss how this will change the...blah blah blah...." ZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

"We can't discuss specific dates about the release but we're still shooting for first half of 2009"

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Hmm... I wonder why this is before March 15th? Very interesting indeed. Not really, but never hurts to promote rumours.

PALM IS NOT GOING TO RELEASE TO PHONES ON THE SAME DAY.

I guess you missed the sarcasm in my post. I know this phone won't be out until June.

I guess you missed the sarcasm in my post. I know this phone won't be out until June.

*TWO

thank you.

Contents of webinar:
first 5 minutes: "notice that I'm pinching the screen to look at web sites and now I'm pushing up with my thumb and ... look at that beautifully tuned momentum app..."
5-10: "we now have confirmation that the pre will have the "that's what she said" app. We hope to afford a port of the "whoopee cushion" app!!
10-15: "this device is going to change your life forever. It will make it rain when it's dry and it will part the clouds in Portland. No seriously. no seriously. no seriously.... no seriously."
15-20: "No seriously. Look how easily I can call Sophia Acosta and email a web site address to her! No matter how expensive this phone is, we're practically doing you a favor by selling it to you!"

Q&A:
21-22: "Before we begin allowing questions, we have not set any additional release dates except for 1st half 2009. Anyone have any questions? Didn't think so. Blog it!"

Bravo! Perfect recreation of the presentation on the 12th! Might as well just quote Hesse and say "We're working 24/7 to try to bring you the Pre ASAP...we understand there will be shortages no matter when we release it...again we cannot give you an exact date other than FHO 2009"

the webinar will probably be as boring, as the other little informations, they provide over the last week(s). nothing really new.

lmao i willing to bet all the money in the world that what those comments before mine, is exactly what is going to be said about the pre by Hesse after the webinar

Well, we know that there are a few tech sites being invited to this, but we don't really know what the general audience is. If it's regular news sites (CNN, NBC, ABC, etc.), then it'd be very smart to have a special webcast, even if no new information is given, because the general public still has no idea what the Pre is, it'd end up being like easy advertising.

But on the other hand, if it's mostly tech sites, then they'd better have something new, otherwise they're wasting their time.

For the Q&A the trick will be getting them to respond to questions carefully crafted ("fishing")to reveal what you need, like:

"So if the release date would be June 30, the testing group probably has to sign off on the device around the end of March right?" (hoped for answer: "not really, our marketing campaign is already prepared, we just need a to finish t- d-oh! I mean, no comment!")

or

"Has the production been affected by the low supplies in China?" ("What Chinese? These are being produced in Texas and they're on-ti -- d'oh!!! I mean NO COMMENT!!!")

;-)

Why are all these posts so cynical? Don't you want the Pre? One would assume that's why you're here.

I for one am very excited about the phone and can't wait until it's out! I just hope it is able to edit MS Office applications out of the box and I'm good to go!

Let's be honest: the webinar is going to be essentially a youtube video.

Why are we cynical? Because iPhone phan boyz have been making our ears bleed for the past 2 years, and we desperately want something to shut them up. Welcome.

The Pre couldn't come out early enough. It's not even that groundbreaking. Build an integrated-removable bluetooth headset, and we could talk about groundbreaking. Integrated contacts is nice and good, but that's the only new idea I've seen. Everything else is just small innovation/evolution/borrowed. And none of my old software will work on it.

Few, if any, smartphones have leaped forward (except iPhone) since the the HP h6315 (2004, in my humble opinion). Am I honestly supposed to be WOWed by the fact that the WinMob X has fewer glitches than the previous?

Am I supposed to be WOWed by a youtube WEBINAR?

Palm: "Yes. You are."

*not sure what this is in response to*

How many things on the iphone were "groundbreaking" and not evolutionary and borrowed?

IT'S A GOOD thing that no mac fan boys are trolling these comment listings. LOL!

I don't really want to defend the iPhone. I dislike it, but I think there are some important reasons why it's popular. For heaven's sake, it was named Time magazine's "Invention of the Year" in 2007. It's features may have existed, but weren't on main-stream smartphones, much. Maybe you can help me if I'm wrong about this.

1. It brought to the mobile-table a new popular OS (don't argue that it's not new--it's pretty different than the desktop/notebook versions of macOS--and as far as I can tell Symbian is not for me).

2. Multi-touch

3. Visual Voicemail

4. flush screen touch screen

5. an accelerometer

6. huge storage built in

What else can we think of, as non-fan boys?

On second thought, it's unfair to call the webinar a glorified youtube video because it allows Q/A. I apologize.

Cynical??? It's like telling kids what AWESOME gift they are going to get for christmas but not telling them when Christmas is - and just dropping lame hints like "oh sometime THIS YEAR." Am I saying we're a bunch of kids waiting for a Christmas that seems like it will never come? YES. Think about it. Why torture a bunch of kids like that? In some way it's cruel - and sooner or later those kids will start tearing the house apart looking for any sort of clue.

Sooner or later, those kids also grow up and realize that "I can't haz everything NOW".

Thank God that Palm is making a device like the Pre.

Customers are not treated like adults by companies. Customers don't expect them to treat them like adults. Companies are supposed to entertain--not torture.

Companies don't treat customers like adults: Never have. Never will.

And they realize that the parents who announced something awesome SO EARLY but not give a single clue when they'll receive it - are just plain cruel.

So when is the EXACT date of your next promotion? Or what is the EXACT amount of your next pay raise? You should probably quit if your boss has not given you specifics because that's just cruel.

Life is full of unknowns. Grow up.

In a lot of companies, you at least have some idea of when your performance review is--more specific than "1st half of the year"... Whether you get the promotion/raise then or not, of course, is case-by-case. And, of course, surprises can often come along that don't follow that schedule.

So yes, there are plenty of unknowns in life. No question of that. Plenty of grownups want some of those unknowns to be clarified and get impatient if they aren't.

Me, while I have nothing to base this on--I hope Palm announces when the Pre will be available by/at CTIA.

Cruel? So I guess my parents were cruel when they said "Sure, we'll get that for you...as soon as we can afford it." Sometimes that meant waiting months. That's life.

this is all i can say april 5,12,19,26 may 3,10,17 24,31 and june7,14,21,28 these are all sundays look out for the palm pre shortly folks you will love it ........

I'll be there as well. Even if it is a "YouTube video", I will still be interested to see what Palm shows.

Nuff said, I've been waiting on the Pre for a while. Not only does Sprint have the best plans around, the Pre will be a nice upgrage to my Treo 700P!

When will it be out, price and is the Phone as a Modem still an option because it is no longer listed at Sprint.com/PalmPre as a feature.
