Palm Pre Fact Sheets, User Guides Leak out

Mahootzki points us to Coal's post over at Sprint Gurus leaking a bunch of Palm Pre box documents in PDF form.  We have all the (heavily watermarked) action after the break!

Leaving aside the feeling that it's relatively difficult to distinguish between a manual and three different kinds of 'guides,' we're feeling pretty happy about the full user guide.  It's full of crunchy tidbits -- some new and some not -- like:

  • Synchronization of Facebook and Google accounts is scheduled to happen every 15 minutes. (we hear that Gmail is IMAP-idle-sytle push, but that's still unconfirmed)
  • You hold down the orange button to switch to moving the cursor around character by character, you hold the shift key to go into text selection mode.
  • If you're 'throwing' items to the right off-screen to delete them (as with the notifications area, for example) and you get a delete confirmation message, you can just throw a 2nd one off screen to confirm it.  Very fast!
  • Notifications for Operating System updates and 3rd party application updates are automatic and give you "install now" and "install later" options - Plus "Install All" and "Install Free" for 3rd party apps.
  • Palm will offer "Palm Music Assistant" to aid in transferring music over USB from the Pre to your computer.
  • Confirmation that you can view DOC, DOCX, TXT, XLS, XLSX, PPT, PPTX, and PDF
  • You can switch the online backup service off or switch it to manual as well as delete backups.
  • You can switch the "full swipe" gesture from two different behaviors -- switching between apps or just 'back'
  • MP3 ringtones are in full effect, but it uses 'the first few seconds of a song' instead of letting you pick.
  • Removing and re-attaching the battery cover takes up no fewer than 4 pages, so it's apparently not easy.

We could go on, but you get the picture.  There's plenty to see here.  We are almost a week away, folks!

Thanks Mahootzki!

Hey I am all for giving credit where credit is due, but did that have to put "SprintGuru.com" on all of that in big red letters??

My hope that the gesture area light would also be the message indicator has now been squashed.

how come on the fact sheet it says that the pre can play wma formatted songs? but in the user guide it doesn't. if the pre can play wma songs then this device will go down in history as the best phone ever made.

Very interesting stuff, it's like opening my Christmas present early for a peek!

A neat feature: you can attach a note or reminder to a contact, then the next time you are talking to them by phone or text the reminder will pop up.

A concern: no mention of the proximity sensor. It says if you accidently hang up your call you may be touching the hang-up button with your cheek and the solution is to hold the phone away from your face.

I write stand-up anywhere I hear or think of something funny. I need my phone to be able to edit files that will sync with something desktop accessible/convenient (preferrably accessible offline and online)

What will the Pre offer software wise out-of-the-box for those types of needs?

Battery life on page 1 is 5hrs talk 250 standby, on page 2 it's 4hrs talk 200 standby!

Bluetooth tethering is confirmed. What is "only special pricing can add PAM attachable"?

32-bit vista only? Huh?

Yes, doesn't it appear as a USB drive to the computer? In which case, why won't it work with 64-bit?

One tidbit that may have been missed is that if you flick up from the gesture area twice you now get the launcher. I think having two ways of getting card view is redundant, and Palm should revert to the debut-style gestures. Why not let users choose, at the very least?

you can only download mp3 from amazon over wifi (you can preview and queue them up for download with sprint, but the actual download needs wifi)

you can automatically answer or call with speakerphone, you first need to answer, and then hit speaker, very inconvenient for driving.

Hi all, I'm a new member to the forum but should mention that I have been following all the posts at least every 20 minutes since the MWC 2009. I would like to commend you all on the wonderfully geeky work you've been doing in keeping the world informed about developments with the AWESOME Pre. It appears to me that no one has picked up on the fact that you can indeed delete any unwanted contacts- synced from the proprietary accounts- from the phone (according to the user manual in the contacts section). If this is rightly so, then it appears the fear of members concerning having to deal with contacts on synced from facebook etc. that they don't actually want on their phones is moot. Can someone also offer their insight into this cos i think this resolves a lot of the worries concerning the perceived implementation of synergy in contacts.

Unfortunately for me however it appears I wouldn't be seeing a pre probably until december since I live in the UK

Woot, Palm Pre supports AVRCP profile! Pretty sure that's the first time it's been confirmed, Palm's Twitter folks dodged the question about a month ago.

how can i download ringtones and call tones? And how can i manage the volume of my ringtones???
