One thing we don't want lost in all this Palm Pixi shuffle: the Palm Pixi's customizable back covers are really stunning, well designed, and hopefully won't cost an arm and a leg. Palm is starting with 5 limited-edition back covers from California artists and they look to be a great way to make the Pixi more fun and unique.
Each cover was custom-made for the Pixi and features the artitst's name and signature on the inside. Even better - all of the custom covers will be Touchstone-compatible, so you don't have to give up functionality for your bling. Sometime soon Palm will have more information on the artists and designs at www.palm.com/artistseries.
What do you think: Gimmick to rake in more money (can't blame cash-poor Palm for trying) or truly fun and cool feature?

This reminds me of the sidekick id.
Fun and cool I'd say, though I prefer black or gray myself. Now my lady... her phones are required to be pink so they could probably get her as customer just by offering a pink back.
the middle of this article says these covers are for the Pre.
+1 on the Pre mentioned in the article haha
This is the coolest thing about the Pixi. My Pre is feeling pretty bland.
i would like to see them have options like this for the pre...i agree with joe---my pre is feeling pretty bland as well...
Bland? Black is a fantastic, stylish, practical color. I guess Palm really has the right idea, though, for those who see this as fun instead of gaudy and think black is bland.
More happy customers = great, though. Talking about Pimping your Pre.
Whatever your tastes, though, more power to you.
I think black is great too. I like how elegant it is. But I agree that there should be options for those who do not share my passion for black.
I've been a Palm user since my m105 in 2002 but...
...Seriously? Did nobody at Palm know about a little company called Nokia that made this popular (remember those carts in the mall had nothing BUT phone covers?) in 1999!!!
Ten years later...
...hmmm maybe we should introduce changeable covers?
Just because the artists who designed these are from Broke-i-fornia doesn't mean I want a hummingbird on my phone.
The only way I could see this "upping" anything, is if Pixi was centered around a marketing campaign about the Pixi being personal and what better way to do that then to customize your phone with 1,000s of covers from sports teams to artsy designs.
But, it's been awhile since phone covers were in so...
...this could be a cash cow if Palm plays their cards (anyone catch the pun) right.
