While the limited edition Artist Series backs won’t be shipping until an undetermined date in early December, Palm wants to make sure that they get the word out on the special Pixi backs. And so to promote the Touchstone-enabled Artist Series backs Palm will be holding a question and answer session with the artists themselves, and they’re doing it on Twitter. On November 23rd at 1:30 pm (EST) @palm will be answering your questions to provide “insight into the artistic vision behind these designs.”
The first three backs to ship will be “Skull” by Jeremy Fish, “Two Fish” by Michelle White, and “Hummingbird” by Cole Gerst.

So where are the equivalent covers for the Pre? =(
Not to take away from the artists hard work but there covers dont seem all that special to me. Anybody with decent Photoshop skillz can come up with much better stuff...
My wife wants the fish one. Or the hummingbirds.
Come on tho, $50!?
Thats a bit outrageous.
"Palm shoots themselves in the face yet again."
-1st time, Pre Commercials
-2nd time, the name: "Pixi"
-3rd time, charging $50 for Pixi "Artist Series backs" when the phone only cost $99.
Don't get me wrong I think the WebOS is ground-breaking & awesome, and I bought my Pre back on J6. But it seems as if Palm used up all their smarts on the creation of WebOS and now they're running on empty or just not on all cylinders. I will just end with this: If I were an investor of Palm, I'd be kind of pissed.
Perhaps you should reconsider. The phone does not cost $99, but rather $499. It it quite naïve not to take the contract costs into account at all.
Can the Pre get some artistic love?
Yea would love for artistic love for the pre but not for $50 for a phone cover...
To be fair, you're paying $50 to be one of only 5000 with such a back. Exclusivity has a price.
That being said, $50 is too dang much for a pretty back on a $30 (from Wal-mart) phone. It's like they're trying to play both sides of the game: "Here's your starter-smartphone for all you cheapskates at the discount store" and "Here's your hip, exclusive, flashy 'it-phone' for all you trendy hip people with money to burn."
Fortunately, despite my confusion, I'm betting they'll win because those two groups rarely intermingle.
I, too, am disappointed by the $50 price tag on these things. I'd heard $19.99 and thought that was reasonable. $50 is outrageous, to me. (My wife still wants the two fish one, though. *sigh*)
Hopefully there are some third-party choices available before these come out. :D

The pictured Michelle White one is the one I'd want, but $50? That's way too much for something that's going to take the wear and tear of regular cell phone usage.
On future devices, the phone should be completely touchstone-ready out of the box, and only needing the purchase of a touchstone. Having to pay for a new back (and then also a touchstone) is just silliness. Also, many states have passed laws requiring drivers to use a hands-free option, yet the Pixi doesn't come with the hands-free headset that the Pre did?
Palm - think about what your doing here. The phone ships in a hardware state that is halfway-touchstone-enabled? You need to buy a new back to be fully touchstone-enabled. You then also need a touchstone. Seems like a lot just to charge your battery. Next are you going to ship it without a battery and an O.S. and require us to buy those separately too? I appreciate the convenience of the charging technology, just not how Palm is gouging the consumer for the right to use it. Consumers don't need to buy extra parts to fully enable this functionality for their electric toothbrushes or electric razors.
