Am I missing something here? When Palm adds an updated app, is there anyway to know what is actually in the update?

Read the app's description. If that doesn't work, check the developer's website. If that doesn't work, download the app.

Really the easiest way to update all your apps is navigate the the system update. This not only updates the version of WebOS, but also updates all your apps.

There's no good way. It's one of the (at least) two things I want from Palm: Changelog in App Catalog and easy way to arrange your launcher from your desktop. . . . help us Jason Robitaille, you're our only hope.

edit: There's no good standard way. Some developers put a little changelog in the description. Palm needs to add a button and make it mandatory. Not a big deal, just would be nice.

I think I know what you mean. It's a little frustrating to read these "update" posts that simply amount to lists of apps. It's already easy to find out which of our apps have pending updates. What we really want to know is: what is in those updates.

Sure, we could all go down the list of every app and look at the updates. But maybe pulling that information together would be valuable for your readers. Perhaps just the larger, more interesting updates, if the list is long.

In another blog entry we learned that Tweed now supports horizontal viewing. I bought the app. Getting the update information in one place is valuable to your readers, and may even generate revenue for developers.

That great Tweed now has horizontal viewing. Too bad I didn't know until now. We need some type of list of changes for these apps where they are easy to get to. I don't have time to go looking around web sites, app descriptions and / or blogs.

Hey guys!

Got a question maybe someone can help. The other day you said that PhotoDialer's update is free for those who had it. I've tried to update that and even Stopwatch / Timer. I keep getting Download cancelled and app catalog unavailable. try again later message. Is it my phone or just Palm? Frustrating me.

It's not you - whenever they're updating the catalog it's unavailable to us. Also, half the time it seems to be down but that may be because there's too many users (load issue?).

Thank goodness it isn't me. I wonder how long it will take till I CAN download the update. 3 days now. sheeesh. How long does it usually take would you know?

A couple days ago I read here that Tweed had been updated, so I ran Updates and was told I was up-to-date. Went to the App Catalog and found the page for Tweed had a bar ro download the update. When I tried to do that. I got the fraking "too many apps; delete some, Monkey Boy" error and until I tossed a few Homebrews, I couldn't update. Lame.

It's unfathomable how broken Palm has left the Pre. With the App Catalog well into triple digits - I see the iToonz Ape Stoar just rolled past 100,000 apez - you'd think one of these geniuses would've taken a moment from trying to counter Apple's shens with iToonz to fix what is an impediment to paying customers giving them money for apps, but noooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Yeah, would be awfully nice to be able to install some of these new apps.

Monkey boy error -- LOL

Oh boy! More lightweight toss aways. How exciting. Apple and Google must be quaking in their boots at the threat the Palm app catalog is to them. Yawn.

@DirkBelig; there is a patch to extend your storage for apps. Its on this site somewhere.

@everyone; Does palm have any plans, or is there a definate place online, to see every app release, and perhaps install them, ala iphone, from the pc using an itunes like app? Yeah, the palm website lists some apps, but why not have a system like the evil company that shall not be named that allows ful....bah, you know what, we need itunes for the pre. plain and simple

@dirkbelig: funny, after i hit submit on that last message, one of the graphics on the right was to the article i mentioned.

here you go

I'm pretty disappointed that SplashID is now a paid app ($4.99) but you still can't backup/sync your data. Used to be one of my fave apps on my Treo. I'll just hang on to the free app and manually update/transfer on my PC (PITA!) for the time being.

App catalog shows it as a paid app, but I was able to upgrade without being prompted to authorize payment (I had the previous version installed).

I won't begrudge paying once they have some form of syncing implemented, although it'd be kind of low to charge for the app, then require a subscription to their online service as well. I don't think that'll happen though; they consistently mention both their service and desktop syncing as planned alternatives.

After installation, version is 4.1.0. Not entirely obvious to me what the changes are in this version. Under preferences there's a User Name field I don't remember that by default is set to "Palm Pre". Suspect this is part of gearing up to syncing.

OK, thanks. I didn't know that it would update without asking for payment yet. When I ran the Updates app it only downloaded the freebies. I didn't realize that you have to individually download the updates for the paid apps (whether you have to pay for them now or not).

Do they have plans to support a backup/sync?
