New in the App Catalog for 18 October 2009

Some new apps in a Saturday update of the Catalog. Here's what came down the pike yesterday:

  • Sports Calender (both a $1.99 and a free version): Finds the schedules of your favorite sports teams and allows you to write them to the calander.
  • Golf Caddie Trial (Free): Golf score and statistics tracker with GPS functionality
  • College SuperFans 2009 Football ($4.99): Up-to-the-minute scores, schedules, news, and live game results for college football teams
  • Sudoku Lite (Free): Sudoku game.
  • gChords Free (Free): Guitar chord encyclopedia.
  • Net2Streams Lite (Free): SHOUTcast Streamer. Homebrew graduate.
  • Fidelity 95.7 Fm (Free): Shoutcast stream specifically for Latin artists.  Homebrew graduate.
  • Newsweek Mobile (Free): News application.
  • Trapster (Free): Alerts you as you approach police speed traps, red light cameras, speed cameras, and other roadway wallet hazards

Both the Yelp! and The Weather Channel applications received an update.

I'm liking the idea that we're getting some nice sports apps (and a free Sudoku!)

Sports Calendar is a Homebrew graduate as well.

I have not deleted my fully functional version of Sports Calendar (from Homebrew) yet, seeing there is now a charge for it.

Thought the same BUT their's the thought of not being legit I removed it and now use the Google calendar versions.

This is really cool

These are some useful additions! I was just wondering yesterday when was there going to be some sports apps and trapster is another huge plus.

finally a shoutcast client (or did i miss some app?)... its just great to see that there are even more useful apps coming, i love my pre :D

Great, more stuff I can't install!

Hurry up, Palm! Fix the app limit issue!

(yes, I've installed the Fair Dinkum app, it did not work for me)

I have done the same thing and NOTHING.. I even unistalled 5 apps and still say not enough memory... I want trapster BAAAADDD

I wish I had thought of the sports calendar app since all the teams have them online for free LOL

Well, write something similar with better functionality or at a better price...

These were in the store yesturday.... so they arent new for the 18th. new for the 17th

Weather Channel still doesn't support Celsius. Insert at least one "boo" and "hiss" as appropriate.

I think the Weather Channel is meant mainly for the US, hence the Fahrenheit only. Europeans and Canadians have their own weather channels.

Which assumes that every American uses/wants/likes Fahrenheit. I am an American, living in America, and use Celsius. Every online weather source that I use has the option for Celsius and that's what it's set for. I use Accuweather on my Pre because it lets you select Celsius as an option. Even the National Weather Service reports temperatures in both scales.

It's silly for TWC to think that all pre users want Fahrenheit. It's simple for them to implement an option for Celsius and the fact they didn't just means they're being lazy.

there's people that still use beta tapes but that doesn't mean it'd be smart for netflix to start mailing them though.

Interestingly, I downloaded the Weather Channel app and it automatically gave me the temperature in Celsius.

I'm certain they didn't bother to make a different app *specifically* for Canada, so it must be looking for some info on my phone to determine that I prefer Celsius.

To further explore that, I went into the Regional Settings and changed my Country to the United States instead of Canada. It restarted my phone, and when I launched the Weather Channel app again, the temperature was displayed in Fahrenheit.

So, the truth remains, if you want to be treated well whilst backpacking through France, or if you want your phone to give you the temperature in Celsius, you should pretend that you're Canadian. ;)

I welcome the new apps, glad to see the app catalog growing by leaps and bounds.

I like the college sports APP but it's not worth $4.99 to me. I would pay $1.99, maybe even $2.99.

But not 4.99? LOL

Glad to see you draw the line there..

Palm should have an option in the Catalog to reduce the font so that you could see more apps on the page. It would be nice to be able to browse the apps more quickly. I guess this really wasnt an issue before when there few apps to browse through. Keep the apps coming!

asdfjjdg TRAPSTER!

I'm so excited for this application to finally be released.

I'm convinced that there is a memory leak in that program [trapster] though. Every time that I have used it and Pandora at the same time I run into an issue. It tells me of a speed trap and then Pandora will finish the current song but not continue further than that. It happens over and over and then Eventually it tells me that there are too many cards open. I use Pandora everyday so I know it's not that...If anyone knows why let me know

Hmm, I'll try that next time I go out.

I had a similar problem today. I was trying to use the Trapster app while driving, and after a while, the app stopped loading the map. Then I closed the app to reopen it, but I got a "too many cards open" message... nothing was open.

yep, speed away ;)

I was just about to pay $4.99 for the College Superfan App...and...yup...finally hit my app memory limit!

I know there is FairDinkum. But I have met two other people with Pre's that had know idea about Homebrew or even Precentral. How many other people are out there who will think that their Pre is broken; will simply not want to delete their other apps; who will say that sucks I'm getting the Hero/iPhone; will not pay for new apps; who will etc.....

I barely have any apps installed. I am very judicious with the apps I download. I guess I will try FairDurkum eventually. But right now, I'm too pist off. That's one developer who just lost $4.99.

As a Pre owner. What is more, as a Palm Investor.....FIX THIS NOW.

most of them. i know a guy that does know about it but doesn't have the time or interest in any do it yourself sort of solution.

Double Post (although it's worth saying twice)

double post

Trapster has to be my favorite out of the last batch of apps. I travel from upstate NY down through to Northern NJ and there are a lot of speed traps some that are featured on Trapster, some I intend on adding in my travels.

Sweet!!, keep the apps coming.

Would love some Health care/Medical apps though (made specifically for the WebOS)

This is probably not an effective place to post this request, but I'm gonna do it anyway:

I really like all these audio apps (Stitcher, Net2Streams, AccuRadio, etc...), but I wish they would all make use of the space bar as an the awesome pause button it is. Maybe Net2Streams doesn't count, unless it has recording capabilities.

I am petitioning Palm to require all audio apps to make the space bar act as a pause button.

+1 on space bar pause. that would make things a lot easier

nice spelling of calendar... ;)

Is it just me, or is the Weather Channel app not an update? It just offers me the option to launch it.

It still version 1.0 so I'm not sure what they mean by update. I haven't updated in and can't since it first came out.

yup, still says version 1.0. Seems like they just updated the dste.

the conspiracy theorist in me says they did this just to move to the top of the list again.

Can Net2Stream handle .asx streaming links?

One new app was omitted from this article, but I'm not sure if you can download it from the US app catalogue.

Users in Canada can now download an app called CBC News. (Which, appropriately, displays the latest news from the Canadian Broadcast Corporation). Like all apps available in the Canadian app catalogue, it is free to download.

repeat after me: It's spelled C-A-L-E-N-D-A-R.

Yawn. More lightweight, playtime apps. I think the only one of the last several batches I'd actually be willing to pay for is google voice. Where are the business apps? Where are the productivity-enhancing apps? Don't tell me it's only a "1.0" release, the phone's been out for 5 months.

The slow roll-out of apps, the slow rollout of OS updates, and the impending release of Android 2.0 and an ever growing array of Android handsets are going to really put the squeeze on Palm, I'm afraid.

I can maybe understand the "slow rollout of apps" but slow rollout of OS Updates?? Are YOU KIDDING? We've had more updates with Palm Pre then I think any treo has ever had. I have 0 problems with the amount of OS updates and the frequency.

But all those updates address pretty trivial things. The OS STILL lags way behind the Treo in features and customizability. Simply put, the Treo didn't NEED as much updating as WebOS does. When the WebOS offers, without "patching," most of the features of P-OS then I'll agree with you.

Was using the Sports Calendar since it first came out to homebrew, untill it graduated to the app catalog. Removed the homebrew to get the let free version on the App Catalog just to find it cant do anything but tell you to get the paid version. Was just about to do that till I thought Google calendar now does this too, for free.

Unless there are blow my mind away features in the paid version, there is not much sense with paying for what Google offers for free :( Pity :(

addiarmadar,

I am still maintaining the schedules for the latest homebrew version(v0.3.5) for everyone here at precentral. I know you said you deleted it and I removed it from precentral.net, but if you would like to reinstall the homebrew version please email me at support@unnamedapps.com and I will give you a link you can put into filecoaster to download it.

If you want new features in the future you will still have to buy the paid version or deal with the limitations of the free version.

Trapster app nice to avoid wallet hazzards, rofl. Would get BUT no room on my pre :(

can't locate the Trapster app.
