hi, why i cant see any of these apps?
Paid apps are currently only available in the United States.
Still no paid appas in europe (sigh)
I had that issue but you can use a tool on Preware to fix the issue, Install the terminal App and MVapp and this should do it
I used to get excited when there were new apps...Now I just get tired. I love Preware but using it now prevents anything from the App Catalog being loaded unless I remove it and pkg mgr svc so getting apps is a huge pain. I did this to get the Classic update. What a nightmare THAT turned out to be.
I love my Pre still but updates keep getting worse and worse. All they do is take away what I have to give me stuff I don't see or care about...
I agree that Palm needs to fix this.
There is a Homebrew fix that allows us to tweek our phones so we can bypass this issue. Use Preware to install something called mvapp and it's easy from there.
Also search the Forums about this. There's a bunch of info on how to work around this issue until Palm fixes it.
totally agree. wish they'd add the option to turn on a lot of the patches cause i like those better.
I gave up on the app catalog. The apps are garbage and thats too bad. I do want apps and it's very much a reason i'd go to a different platform. And dumb games made of dots isn't going to keep me. i do want real games like madden. I know it's not coming but hey Palm has time to impress me. That said i'd say my patience is wearing thin but it's gone. i don't even check the app catalog anymore as it's a waste.
hdhuntr - seems like you need to use metadoctor to add some space to your apps partition. I did and I now I have like 200 apps on my phone! wooo hoo
what was "the dual update let-down?"
its derek and his pessimism again, it seems he expects a million apps per day.
Yawn. And people complain about the volume of trivial or useless apps in Apple's app store.
I have deleted almost all my installed apps, but still cannot install anything now.
The APP store is dead to me until they fix the partition limit.
I love you Palm, but fix this problem!
It's like a lady with Double Ds trying to fit into an A cup.
Come on!
I agree that Palm needs to fix this.

See above response about this --

I am a huge advocate for Homebrew, and use it.
Preware I won't touch simply because I don't want to un-install and re-install anything because there's a new update to the OS.
If I wanted a "dumb" phone that needs to be jailbroken in order for it to have usability outside of a Control Freak Company, I would have enlisted in the iPhone's "New World Order" device.
But, since Palm is the opposite, I am waiting on them and will continue to wait on them, because I know for a fact that they'll get it right.
All I'm saying is, as is stated above (like you said--thank you) I want them to HURRY and fix the limit issue, cause there's a lot like me that won't touch it until then, not merely because of obstinance, but because they just can't. It's bad business sense.
They're dangling a carrot in front of me, but keeping me muzzled...
Considering the App Catalog is still in beta, I can only assume a fix will arrive around the time the catalog comes out of beta, which is currently going to be around December. Yes they need to fix it, but no need to say it over and over and over again. There is a reason for a beta, they know the problem, lets see what the full version bring eh? Maybe give them some other pointers as to how you would like the catalog improving, like new categories?
Not to be a badgering willy, but, the new/better catagories subject is also a well beaten horse.
Yes they'll fix it in December when they roll out of Beta (I hope), but I can still gripe along the way ;-)
I don't need mvapp and it is not THAT easy to use. I have researched it. I am very 'handy' but I am not an engineer :-)
I don't have much on my phone. There is no size or partition issue currently. It is something in Preware/PMS or the AppCatalog...some conflict among them that makes it seem to AppCat that the phone is 'full' when it is close to empty.
I am really confused. Has everyone forgot about the Fairdinkum App limit fix? Since I installed that both the app catalog hangup and my app limit are gone.
http://forums.precentral.net/webos-internals/208909-fair-dinkum-app-limi...
FYI: Fairdinkum didn't work for everyone. I had about 28 apps (catalog+homebrew)installed when I got the app limit error message. Installing Fairdinkum didn't change any of that for me. I had to install Terminal/MvApp via Preware in order to to keep installing apps. The problem with this method is that I have to move all of the apps back FROM the USB partition before I can install an update and then MvApp them BACK to the USB partition following the update in order to use them again. Not an ideal situation but all I can do for now.
Funny, after experiencing the app limit issue, I installed preware/fairdinkum, and had no success. There must be something buried down in a forum thread somewhere that you have to do to make fairdinkum work.
I became frustrated and removed anything associated with preware, including fairdinkum, and now I can install appstore apps again.
I did notice that several times my phone would download and install the 1.2.1 os update, and until I accepted the update I had the app limit issue. So I think the os update was taking phone memory maybe.
Hath giveth?
Hath like "has", "giveth", like "gives", this is like saying "Palm has gives." It just sounds stupid. Then again, improper use of archaic english forms is a pet peeve of mine.
:P
Surely you jest!
...and quit calling me Shirley. :-)
I've read a number of posts from Pre users on the app limit issue but I have not seen any official word from Palm. Has there been any official word from Palm on this?
And can someone please explain to me why a home brew app creator can fix this problem (for the most part, above posts excepted) and Palm hasn't yet? There must be a legitimate technical reason this is taking so long.
Thanks
The app limit seems to be tied directly to the amount of email you maintain on the phone.. the email and attachments is kept in the same partition as the apps so if you have a large size email cache your app limit is severely affected.. the mvapp through preware allows you to move the emails and attachments to the media partition without any issues including OS updates and frees up all the space for apps.. This does not need to be reversed in order to update the WebOS..
