Well that's all nice but about "us" in Europe?
We are not getting half the App, paid or un-paid. There is something fundamentally wrong with letting the developer choose which country the App is to be sold in. Why can't it have a default setting saying " worldwide" and if a developer doesn't want that , restrict it to the country of choice.
Appart from that having that default setting you are able to reach a greater audience which is certainly in interest of Mr Rubinstein. Palm wants to reach as many countries as possible, well you need to start with the App Catalogue.
Why is the iPhone so popular ?

+1
While I sympathize, the constant and inevitable refrain is annoying and makes it harder to sympathize.
Yes, we know you don't have access to the App catalog, stop whining here about it and instead spend your time contacting Palm and your celular providers about it.
+1. Agreed. We all understand that this sucks. But unless we learn otherwise, let's assume that Palm wants to do the right thing and is trying to get apps worldwide. It's clearly to their benefit to do so, since they earn a cut of the sales. They have no clear reason to delay. So let's assume that there is some reason we don't know about, but something beyond their control that they are working on, that is preventing them from providing the store internationally.
As someone else pointed out, the best thing Palm could do about this in the immediate term is to let us know what the problem is and to give international folks an ETA (if possible). IOW, communicate with us!
Hopefully, when the app store comes out of beta, it will come out of beta worldwide.
I totally agree!! We are all Customers, we all paid for the same product, so why don't we all have access to the same apps?? C'mon Palm, just do something about this...
Just look at it this way, it took decades for us in the US to get those little European cars but now we have them! So, if you're patient enough...
>a quickly-growing stable of just over 800 apps
Yes but only in USA.
Not in Europe.
In France, we have nothing.
For webOS appplications, we have only Precentral Homebrew Apps:
http://www.precentral.net/homebrew-apps/
If webOS applications are only available in USA, how can we in Europe known these applications and maybe translate them in german or french and improve the webOS applications market (eco-system) in Europe. It is not possible and it is not possible to increase webOS applications available for users in Europe.
If there is no webOS applications available in France or Germany, why the users want to buy a Palm Pre.
Good hardware but no applications and there is no market for this phone.
I think that Palm Inc must allow access for users in Europe at the webOS applications available in USA.
The users must have the choice to add several palm App catalog in several countries in webOS that is used by their Palm Pre.
It cost nothing for Palm Inc to do this thing and users in Europe will be very happy and some of them will translate webOS applications that are very useful in their language.
more webOS apps -> more translated webOS apps -> more users -> Palm Inc will sell more webOS phone --> more webOS apps -> ...
And what about free Palm webOS applications ?
As you can see here:
Android Distribution of free and paid apps
http://www.androlib.com/appstatsfreepaid.aspx
There is a lot of free Android applications.
I think that it is not the same thing with Palm webOS (but I have no access at the Palm App catalog in USA).
And I think that there is too many paid webOS applications.
That's why I think that I will switch to Android because there is more aplications available and more applications available in french as I said here :

I've got to believe there's something holding Palm back from international release for most of the apps. I mean, Palm gets a commission on each app sale so it's in their best interest to have the widest possible release for the apps.
Maybe there are regulatory issues like being registered to sell in the other countries (the phones can come from the carriers so that doesn't necessarily count). Maybe they have to get set up for the proper tax structure as every country will be different - sales tax v. VAT v. no tax and whether or not software is taxable.
There could also be issues with the developer community. Perhaps they need to agree to allow international distribution and most simply haven't for some reason.
It could even be that Palm needs to vet the apps for potential regional law implications before they can be released; i.e. what is legal in the US may not be legal elsewhere. This is especially true when it comes to location-based services that "phone home". In the US we don't own information about ourselves but in the European Union the individual does own data about them and has the right to allow it to not be used.
I think the most frustrating thing is that Palm simply hasn't said why most apps aren't getting an international release. If they'd say "we need to do (blank) before we can release an app in country (blank)" then we'd probably all be more understanding about it.
I agree. Probably an international license or approval from the country.
I can only agree with that last paragraph. The most frustrating thing is that we in Europe started out with over 300 apps and WITHOUT SAYING A SINGLE WORD Palm took us back to just over 60 apps with the 1.3.1 update. By now we're back to a little over 100 but still... that's pretty bad if you had access to over 300 before and your US fellows have sth like 800! To make things even worse, Palm refuses to make any statement regarding when we'll be back on track or why they did that. Another month with just over 100 apps and I'll simply ditch my Pre!
Paid apps is one thing! I get it that there's a lot of differences between various countries like taxes and regulations they need to figure out before they can SELL apps. But they're not giving us access to all the FREE apps either!!!
FoneFinder? Send my phone's location to family and friends? Umm, can't I just call, text or email them and tell them where I am?
I suppose if this works automatically, maybe I'd set it to send it to my own email addy, so that if I lose my phone it will tell me where it is. But somehow I don't think thats what this app does.
It's still exponentially more useful than anything by Brighthouse or Europa...
Well, there *are* times when the exact location of your car would be helpful. Like when you go to an amusement park and want to be able to locate your car. Or going to the park to play basketball or something and you want to be able to give your friends the exact spot that you are at.
Some of the parks around me are BIG, and this is much easier than saying "Well, you know Central Park? Yeah, I'm kinda across the street from the coffee shop, but I'm closer to the bridge near that stream..."
Lottery - $2.99 for a program that generates 6 random numbers. WOW LET ME GET OUT MY CREDIT CARD!!
These apps just keep getting stupider and stupider...
9,13,64,33, 3.388, 9000026. there. done.
that'll be $2.99 to my paypal account. Pleasure doing business with you.
Are the apps stupid? or are the people who buy them stupid? if you can make money off of building a random number generator, then kudos to you.
Since I can only see 213 apps, I assume Canada is on the ignored list as well.
