In our Pre forums, nlowhor posts up a link to the video above and yet again we see a couple of features we haven't spoken about on the site yet. First up, the 'drag to unlock" feature that's actually an improvement over the iPhone's "slide to unlock" because instead of a horizontal slider, you have a circle that you can swipe out of in any direction. In other words, much easier to do one-handed because it allows you to be less precise.
The associated article at mobiledivide also points out another feature that Mike and I actually were hoping for in last night's podcast - namely, the ability to snap a photo with the spacebar instead of depending on the on-screen button. On-screen buttons for snapping photos -- especially self portraits - can be a bit of a hassle, so it's great to see that Palm added this feature.
We're sure that there are probably dozens of subtle touches like these two throughout the entire device and OS and it's one of the reasons we're loving the Pre -- because Palm sweats the small stuff.

You've done great job digging into the various details of the Pre -but- has anybody investigated how it works as a phone? I don't remember any site covering that. Things such as making/answering a call, speed dials etc would be interesting to get some info about. Things we take for granted, that we expect to be simple, can be done with one hand and with just a few presses - or gestures.
I agree with you about no coverage on the phone as a phone. I too would like to know about that as far as speakerphone quality, and the things you mentioned in your post.
And I understand this is bluetooth compatible. Does this mean most bluetooth headsets will work or will we have to purchase another "compatible" headset?

I don't think anyone's had a hands-on with the Pre yet for pure phone functionality. Though it is still pretty early.
Uh, he said "sync with iTunes". Sweet, I guess we can use similar software as BlackBerries.
Good news about the camera speed. I'm glad the space bar can be used to snap the pic, but that's still kind of awkward and means the keyboard has to be open. I really wish they had put a button on the side below the usb port that could be used to start the camera app and as a shutter button while in camera mode. Then you could keep it closed and hold it just like a digital camera.

I hope you can actually sync the Pre with iTunes. That would make it easy to transfer files from a computer therefor making it a great multimedia device.
I watched the video again and noticed he mentions the vibration switch. I guess this confirms the Pre has vibration (some asked about vibration a while ago) :D

and then in the first few seconds of the video - the VP of design gets a swipe wrong.
I think the Pre is beautiful and I'm really looking forward to it - especially the sexy, flowing task manager.
I am concerned with this demo that there is noticeable lag in the responses to the touch gestures - I could see it when he threw away two of the "cards" and towards the end when he was namechecking a band...

that's what i've been wanting from any digital camera for years
i want to push the button, and take a picture
not push the button, wait, wait some more, wait a little more, then have it take the picture
so many shots lost because the subject got her shirt back down before the camera finally got around to taking the picture that i could cry
