WebOS Quick Install v2.7 with webOS 1.2.1 Support Released

After almost a week of delays, the much-requested WebOS 1.2.1-compatible release of WebOS Quick Install is finally released.  And boy what an update (and I say that completely unbiased *wink*).

This update included a lot of code rewrites and changing the patching system one last time, with the patching system integrated through the program.  Just take a look at this change log:

v2.7 - October 4, 09
-  Added reset flag support
-  Updated Sprint/Bell WebOSDoctor URLs
-  Added Patch integration into Device Management
-  Fixed issue where uninstalled apps would still appear in Device Management
-  Redesigned Tweaks into a tabbed interface
-  Completely reimplemented virtual keyboard config support
-  Added patch repository support to Tweaks
-  Completely redid the internal patcher coding
-  Patch format now compatible with Preware
-  Greatly improved Ipkg Feed app info window
-  Fixed bug affecting custom ipkg feeds
-  Added PreYourMind and Canuck Software feeds
-  Updated theming to support new patch-compatible format
-  Added support for .patch and .diff files in the main screen

So not only are all the old tweaks back, but there's a whole new online patch repository to get more from. Better yet, all applied tweaks/patches are completely interoperable with Preware's patches!

And for those who like crafting their own patches, WebOS Quick Install now support plain .patch and .diff files, without needing any special packing. Quick and easy testing.

So if you just wanna check out what tweaks you can get from v2.7, or you've been one of the many eagerly awaiting this update, feel free to stop on by the WebOS Quick Install forum thread.

Ed. Note: while we're at it, we've also restored the ability to download themes in the PreCentral webOS Theme Gallery.

Awesome work Jason....
ps 1st

1st is for gays.

Tweaks RULE though. They do twice as much for me in day to day use as any given app.

all I can say is YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! oh, and thanks bunches too!!!

oh glorious sunday!

there is a god!!!(lol) thanks jay for your hard work my man... you rock homie!!

Precentral peeps, remember to take off the

Theme Downloads are temporarily disabled after the webOS 1.2 release. We hope to restore them soon!

from the themes page

Awesome thanks! Any rumors of a WebOS 1.2.2 release in the very near future, before I go and restore my tweaks and check out some new ones. I don't want to add them and have to remove them again in a week :(.

you are the man jason...ur work has opened up modding the pre to the masses. I really enjoyed command lining the mods into the pre, but you have made it so much easier and faster that it is impossible to resist!

this is great thanks

Awesome! Thanks for all the hardwork! One question tho, any of the online tweaks involve adding universal search clients? The only thing missing to make my pre perfect is IMDB in the universal search. And all the rooting 'tutorials' don't make any sense to me. It seems they were written for people who speak linux, and that is something I don't.

OMGOMGOMGOMG!!! Jason, you ARE the man. I am going through serious Treo Mod Withdrawal, but your work is making it less painful everyday.

Yay!!.. until I tried installing the camera shutter sound on/off tweak from the repository and it bricked my phone.... doctoring now...

Will this application eventually be offered as a certified download through the app catalog for people like me who would do more harm than good trying to tweak our pre's? Might sound stupid to most folks but i have no experience with this sort of thing. Thanks Greg.

Not likely, sorry to say. 60% of what goes on here is based on using features and system changes that are 100% NOT supported by Palm, and for good reason. They have to be careful with what they officially test and endorse.

It's enough to be grateful that Palm doesn't just turn a blind eye, but sometimes a wink to the homebrewers (who are doing an amazing job!).

PreCentral got a nice shout out and alternative explanation from Gizmodo on how to install WebOS QuickInstall and PreWare. Maybe it will help you:

http://gizmodo.com/5373972/how-to-install-homebrew-on-palm-pre-121

I did the install, Exchange is now working like it used to. The only issue I have is that now a screen lock password is required. It does not give you the option to turn it off. I use the screen lock feature, but i also like to turn it off sometimes. Palm, if we are going to be forced to use it, at least allow more than 3 minutes before the screen saver pops up.Please.

OohRah! Lol, very happy to have this back! I was forced to use 2.03 for the last week. Thanks!

Jason, you are the MAN! Thanks for your contributions to the Pre community!

i need help with my novacom i cant get it to install were do i go for help?

In my impatience waiting for this update, I got addicted to Preware. I guess I'll give this a try at some point, but right now my 1.2.1 Pre is tweaked exactly the way I want it, and I did it all with Preware OTA. I also prefer Preware for installing homebrew apps. Seems much faster and easier to use than filecoaster.

I think it is funny that under "IMPROVED AUTO CORRECT DICTIONARY" you get "Engligh (Canada)"...
seems like someone should have used their auto-correct :-)

lol, shush. That's what I get for doin late night coding binges :p

Thanks Jason, Now hopefully you can catch up on your school work :) We appreciate all the effort you put into this!

I guess this means I will install 1.2.1. iTunes and Exchange don't matter squat to me, but I ain't gonna ask Jason to jump through hoops when it's easier for me to do it.

thanks jason for your hard work!!!!

Thanks for all your hard work dude. When I applied a theme it pwn3d my Pre. Doctoring now.

All I can say is thank you sooo much... all the donations are worth it

Is anyone else having trouble with the message forwarding tweak? I am getting prompted with "do you want to forward this message Yes or No" when I tap the message I want to forward, However nothing happens when I select YES. Any suggestions? thanks in advance...

no mine is working just fine, did you try restarting your PRE or try to reinstall, but I am good with all my tweaks and loving it life is GREAT!!!!!

awesome, now I have my pre back to how it was before the update.

:( I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO INSTACK THE NEW QUICK INSTALL AND IT WONT RUN. I THINK ITS MY JAVA BUT I RE DOWNLOADED 7 TIMES.

So does this mean all the patches i installed with preware, quickinstall will see them and i can remove them w/ quickinstall?? hmm.. i guess theres only one way to find out.

I've never installed homebrew apps on my pre. With the 1.2.1 update can I now
download it to my pre? If so how? I've waited for new apps from the apps
store and I'm tired of waiting. How do I get filecoaster and preware on my
pre now??

how can I remove patches from the online repository.

You can remove any installed patch/tweak via Tools->Device Management. Change the upper right dropdown box from "Applications" to "Patches" :)

YEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! =)

YOU DID IT YES YOU ARE THE MAN THANK YOU AND IT IS Prefect !

I'm having an issue now where I can't remove the patch to open new cards for each messaging convo. Any ideas?

Great Work. Makes my pre better than ever =)

Thanks for all your hard work Jason. I love this website and my pre thanks you also.

Thank you for all the development and support. This phone just keeps getting better and better, all thanks to the wonderful job you guys have done through this great website.

Found out that some themes break webOS 1.2.1, I now have a stuck pre (not broken) but stuck without several tweaks that quickinstall can't uninstall. It tries but then on restart of quickinstall tweaks, they are still check marked even though they are not active on the pre.

I believe a bad theme caused this and I have a strange looking icon on the left of the bluetooth and wifi icons. It looks kindof like an ear???

My guess is that I am waiting for the WebOSRepairUtility for 1.2.1

btw...great work on everything

Were you using WebOS Quick Install v2.72 to installed the zip theme? or was it an ipk theme?

great work. but the launcher opacity tweak changes and won't uninstall. i get a error message everytime i try. anyone else getting this ?

yea dude i am getting the same thing. my opacity level is stuck at some number. I keep getting an error message when trying to uninstall.

People, don't forget to donate. Hard work for improvements like these need's to be rewarded. I gladly gave $5 to the cause. I would have been happy with the LED notification alone but WOW! all the extra tweaks are sweet.

awesome. thanks man.

Is anyone having trouble installing themes on your phone. my gf phone, when i try to load any theme i get the loading theme box but it doesnt do anything. when i plug the phone back in and go to the themer section it says theme is loaded but it isnt. i have restarted the phone hundreds of times and even ran the repair utility still doesnt work. does any one have a suggestion? i might just have to restore phone otherwise.

Thanks Jason!!! A donation coming your way this evening...

Anyone else notice a significant improvement in battery life since installing the tweaks????? I'm ecstatic!!!

This means now I can download WebOS 1.2? Other thing I have the ADD Launcher pages, do I have to delete this patch?

Is it needed to delete ALL patches BEFORE downloading 1.2.1??? I dont want to F*@K up my pre if i update w/o deleting then reinstalling all patches.....

HELP is greatly Appreciated!!!
