Dieter told us last Wednesday that Howard Stern was recommended the Pre by Palm's Lynn Fox, and that Stern would be getting a preview of the Pre.
My great friend Jimmie Geddes from GadgetsOnTheGo.net let us know that he listened to Howard Stern's show yesterday, and Howard said that Palm is giving him a private demo of the Pre at his apartment this weekend. Wow, a "private demo" at his own crib! Must be nice Howard. Palm told Howard that he'll get a demo of the Pre, but not the final shipping device. And of course Palm will be taking the Pre right back after the demo and locking it up.
According to Jimmie, Robin Quivers and the rest of Howard's staff will be getting a Pre demo in the studio. Jimmie said that Robin said during the show that she'd heard great things about the Pre back in January, but it's now April and there's still no Pre for sale. Yeah Robin, we're all anxiously waiting for the Pre here too!

Larry Dignan over at ZDNet.com also talked about Howard Stern and the Pre. Dignan says that Stern, a loyal Treo user, is in the market for a phone. He says that Stern is embarrassed to show his Treo because the technology is so old:
“I’m embarrassed to hold up my phone right now it’s so old school,”
Another Stern quote from the article:
“They’re going to show me the Pre and then take it away. They’re trying to build excitement for this thing. If people don’t buy this I don’t see how Palm keeps going,”
According to Dignan, Stern is publicly auditioning phones and is trying the BlackBerry. Stern ruled out the iPhone because of the lack of a physical keyboard.

I would think that Howard would like the BlackBerry, but I would guess that he'll like the Pre a lot more. I can't imagine him not liking the Pre once he gets his hands on it. I sure as heck hope he likes it! And Palm had better hope so too! I'm sure Howard will tell it like it is if he doesn't like it. I think he's going to love it though. Don't you?

My thing with celebrities is that they only interest me when they're doing what makes them celebrities. Would i watch Lebron James play basketball? You bet. Would i care to see him doing something besides basketball..umm..not really. Do i care what phone he uses? Nope..lol
Would i put him in a commercial with a Pre? You bet..:P
I really dont agree to you. In my view celebs lifestyle always attract their fan. they want to know everything about their clebs. So it matters what they do apart from their main business.

Howie is so overrated at this point - this is the only thing that he's done on his show in years that's gotten any attention at all from the press. His horse-faced chick has gotten more attention than he has. Joe Clayton should be shot for giving him $800+ million of cash that Sirius didn't (and still doesn't) have.
But if Palm is going to go with one satrad shock jock, they should go with all of the morning ones - Opie & Anthony is ripe for a Pre demo: Opie is a BlackBerry diehard and Anthony is an iPhone fanatic, but Lil' Jimmy Norton has gone through 7 or 8 iPhones, all of which have given him troubles - he's sick of the browser crashing (which any iPhone/iPod Touch user will tell you is a daily occurrence, and as a hacker, I can tell you its because the iPhone doesn't have enough memory - something the Pre has in spades supposedly).
If Palm brought in the Pre and impressed him, I'm certain Jimmy would walk right out of the studio and toss his iPhone in the East River - maybe not as headline-grabbing as Hoo-Hoo, but O&A have just as diehard an audience as Stern (if not even more so), and free publicity in two countries is, well, free publicity in two countries.
I don't recall anyone or anything being as overrated as this guy.
Howard is getting the Pre demo because he will talk about it and he has millions of listeners. What company in their right mind would not take the opportunity for this kind of promotion? He brought over 6 million new listeners to Sirius and you think he is irrelevant? Opie and Anthony were fired from their regular radio gig because they ARE irrelevant and certainly not entertaining. Howard has said he will not choose the Pre if it comes out later than may no matter how great it is. He likes the iphone but he doesn't like that lotus notes requires him to input his password each time he wants to use it. He likes the blackberry but doesn't like that texts are not threaded like the treo he uses now.
I think Opie and Anthony's listener base is a better demographic fit. Opie and Jim have both expressed misgivings about the iPhone.
