Handcase Chooses Pre Too!

PalmTouch is reporting that Handcase, a Brazilian classic PalmOS software developer, is also jumping on the Pre-wagon. The company has already created Pre-versions for 70% of their 100 app library. Handcase’s applications are targeted for all types of users (casual through corporate) and fit categories as diverse as medical, entertainment, utilities and security.

Ricardo Garay, the CEO of Handcase, said the company has been taking steps to migrate their applications from Portuguese into English, and plan on having 100 apps ready by the end of the year.

For those unfamiliar with Handcase’s offerings, check out their YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/handcase).

The PalmTouch post brings up an interesting point…
How are these apps going to be distributed? While we know that Palm will offer an on-board App Store, the exact details will be unveiled later. As more and more companies jump on the Pre-wagon, let’s hope Palm has a developer-friendly process in place that welcomes the loyal Palm OS developers and wins over some of those who have been frustrated with Apple’s app store process.

This is actually old news. It appeared on January 21 (http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8528642223.html). Do look at the article, its quite an interesting read.

The interesting bit of the news is this though:
"Handcase has been working with Palm for almost a year on the porting project, says the company. At the Pre announcement, Palm said it would depend on third parties to port the older software over to WebOS. "
This means that the Mojo SDK has been out for quite some time though and that we can expect a large software library at launch (I am assuming Handcase is not the only one, who got their hands on the DevKit early on.)

How exciting! A useless youtube video and a whole host of palm software that looks like it is from 1998.

Why do you think the apps are going to look like they did on PalmOS??? Palm did not have anti-aliased fonts back then and changing the design in CSS is a breeze. Besides, Handcase does have many useful medical apps. This is a very good sign.
Once again the fact that they had the SDK FOR ALMOST A YEAR tells me they aren't the only ones and that they are just part of a bigger picture of the apps that will be available for the Pre at launch.
