Google introduces Search Options for Mobile on webOS

The slew of enhancements coming our way from Google in the past week or so have been rather staggering.  First, we found the Maps application for webOS was quietly enhanced to include transit and walking directions.  Then AdSense was upgraded.

Now, we have more search refinement options while searching on Google's mobile site. The Google Mobile Blog has announced enhancements in this area by allowing for filtering by Web, Forums, Reviews and time posted, reflecting the options that are available on desktop browsers.

This update is reflected on the Android, iPhone, and webOS operating systems. Blackberry, S60, Windows Mobile and everyone else are left, once more, out in the cold. Webkit win!

awesome. Yah google loves palm...

google is smart, microsoft should consider reworking bing to work on mobile platforms better like google/yahoo. Bing sucks so far on it but google is the one I use anyways

Wait, have you tried Bing on your Pre? This "new feature" that enables search options has been available this whole time on Bing. I used it the day I got my Pre (second week of availability) and it's always worked. The only problem with the Bing site is that the page isn't formatted for mobile viewers. Luckily, with the recent WebOS 1.2 update, once you tap on the search bar, the browser zooms in, thus giving you a close-up view of your text and the search options.

You can get to the full Google site on the pre as well. We're talking about the mobile versions, and m.bing.com seems like a sad attempt IMO.

doesnt s60 use a webkit browser as well?

Sweet.

anybody else notice the bar at the top for the Images/Local/News/ etc searches? Mine doesn't have that!

No images, local, news, more for me either

works great for me.

i tried this last night looking for a picture of someone and i did not see the bar at the top either!

Yeah I noticed the bar disappeared a couple of days ago. If you navigate directly to google.com or google.com/m the top bar comes back. Queries directly from the Palm browser don't yield the top bar.

i like em both (yahoo & google). but if you have a yahoo acount.. there are tons of customization options as opposed to none with google.. nonetheless google is taking over. phones, browser, desktop operating system and some! google is a bad mothafu*ka! lol.. didn't microsoft partner with yahoo or something.. they better try to make something out of it cause bing aint cuttin it! i am looking forward to the windows phone though.. i love it.. imagine if palm, google, microsoft, and apple came together and made a device. WOW.. in my dreams of a perfect world...

l always incorporate date into my search, now I don't have to use the classic site nearly as much!

I, too, lost access to images, local, news and more.

I'm always searching for images, entering the search terms with the unmodified Universal Search and then switching to the images search after the age loads.

I was pissed off by the extra options because it seems to have come at the cost of basic functionality.

Don't have that options tab on mine...

enhancements to google maps is all well and good, but can they please freakin' include street view? It's killin' me!

Where is Latitude?

I think Latitude is available on the MobiOS app to the right --------->

No latitude yet, but check out the Longitude user forums. Gets you part of the way there.

Google Reader open fails to properly *position* as it closes a previously read item. Makes the RSS feed reader almost unusable on the Prē.

While it's awesome that Google is being so proactive about updating their mobile interfaces, I really, REALLY want them to update mobile Gmail so that the webOS browser loads the same flavor of mobile Gmail that iPhone and Android users see. The inability to label email without loading the full version is killing me!

Robert, do you perchance have the iPhone spoofing patch installed? Might that account for why you have the extra functionality while others don't? Just guessing.

Yahoo! Mobile search is eons ahead of google and bing. It's yahoo's strong point.
