The camera on the Pre takes photos rather quickly -- hold down the space bar and you can get it to take a shot as quickly as one per second. Pre owner jeremy9174 did just that on his drive home and then stitched the images together for some DIY stop motion video action. It's not true video, sure, but it's still fun!
...Now, where's our Gumby figurines?

Ha! That's pretty cool. Didn't realize it takes pix really quick! Nice!
LOl pretty cool indeed..
Wow. I'd be curious what the camera's res settings, etc, were at. It seems he used video compression in the post, so it's hard to tell.
If it was taking super-fine pics then 1 fps is impressive. That'd give me hope that the Pre will have some tight 320x480 video recording.
Did jeremy9174 bring this out on the forum? Be curious to see more details.
All I could think with each sucessive frame was:
ALL-YOUR-BASE-BELONG-TO-US-ALL-YOUR-BASE-BELONG-TO-US-ALL-YOUR-BASE...
Nice! ...but isn't is "All your base are belong to us"?
HAHA! Zero Wing!
Hey, I havent messed with the settings on the camera, So it's set to whatever standard settings are. Not really sure how to change the settings actually.
How many pictures did that take?
122
Ah, right on. Thanks.
So, um... does anyone know what those settings are? I'm poor and Pre-less for a couple more months yet.
@ananimus: you don't need to "hope" that it can take decent video. the processor (same as the one in 3GS) is capable of 720p recording. there are no excuses in terms of the hardware that Palm has for not yet having a video recording app.
Yeah, but as I understand it they use a different chipset. Might they not sample from the camera differently as a result? And regardless, until Palm coughs it up there'll have to be some homebrew action on this. Less than optimized, of course.
way cool.. oh, and Jeremy, two hands on the wheel son ;-)
Passenger seat my friend.
I made one real quick

Nice job with the stop motion...now I know where you live :)
uh... Just tried it and my pre does not take repeated pics if you hold down the space bar. Am I just pre-challenged or something?
Must be, theres not much to it... Hold space. It should click about once a second.
just sweet
What app was used to stitch these together? What other apps can stitch pictures together like this?
Also, is there a way to get an email if someone responds on this thread?
Or is there a way to get a rss feed of comments to a post?
Thanks,

Windows movie maker.
Wow, is there any camera on earth that takes and stores pics this fast?! I think only the Sony Cybershot.

I used

Plugged Pre as USB drive and had jpgvideo grab from Pre and save to desktop. I then used Mobile Media Converter to make mp4 out of avi.
Any suggestions on other programs to do this?

Thanks!
You can make a gif out of multiple layers with the gimp. You might be able to make a video out of multiple jpgs with avidemux or virtualdub. I know avidemux will turn a video into a series of jpgs
Actually, I think Picasa has movie/video feature.

Someone has already hacked the camera app to add a 10-second countdown timer. I wonder if it would be possible to further hack the camera app to automate the process of "take a picture and save it as fast as you can" process? Looks like the 10-second timer thing was added with just a few modifications to the camera control javascript code, I wonder if the mods for a DIY movie mode would be equally as simple...
While I love the Pre's photo quality, quick response between press and capture, and photobucket upload, this topic seems REALLY sad to me!
We really should have video capture on this. Blackberry Tour is going to have it at launch, along with Data Viz office doc editing for the same $199 after rebates.
Considering Sprint lets all of its other Blackberry phones tether, I'm kinda wishing I had the Tour instead of the Pre right now.
There's so much I love about this phone, why does it have to be in beta right now?! argh!
