Here at PreCentral HQ, the Daylight Savings Time switchover last weekend went over without a hitch - we're set up with network time and everything appeared to 'just work.' That seems to have been the case for most people -- but not all. Following a Twitter heads-up from @Novacharter, we found some folks had alarm issues while others briefly had their calendars think it was December 1st.
Though it may seem strange, getting DST right is a relatively complex thing for smartphones. Windows Mobile still runs into this kind of thing even though it's been around a long time. There are at least three possible points of failure for most users: the phone's own programming, how that programming deals with timezone, and how that programming interacts with the network's time settings.
That last bit might explain why one user at gdgt noted that GPS was failing during that 'extra' hour Sunday morning (via @peterrojas) - the GPS on the Pre leans heavily on the network (though you can fix that if you're driven to do so).
How about you? Any time or date-related oddities on your Pre since the time switch?

The only strangeness I saw was at 2am, I got a notification bar telling me my 7 am M-F alarm was set, as if I had changed it.
I saw the same thing on my Pre. It's as if the clock app had been opened. Maybe the system did just that. Anyway, I had no issues with the time change or any of my alarms or calendar entries.
Network Time = ON
Network Timezone = OFF (Set manually)
I had to get up at 5am (6am if you don't account for DST) on Sunday and it said 4am. Somehow it bounced back two hours instead of one. It also wouldn't let me on the web with strange network errors. Once it finally let me back online to browse the web the clock flipped forward to 5am again.
i had the exact problem...i had to wake at 4. and the alarm went off at 3, tho it was set for 4. I guess the alarm knew it was really 4a. but the clock had gone back 2 hours instead of 1. If it wasn't for my ocd with setting all my other clocks back, i would have been an hour late for work!
+1
my only issue was all of my calendar event alarms were going off an hour early... They had the correct time showing in the calendar, they were just notifying me early. Had to delete them and put them in again for the notification to go off at the right time.
Nothing bad at all happened. When my alarm went off at normal time, it did briefly reset itself...but that's it.
All of my repeating calendar events didn't shift with DST, so they all showed up 1 hour early. I had to go in and fix them. Other than that everything went without a hitch.
Several of my apps would not connect to the network after the switch. I just had to do a restart and everything started working. weird.
my phone thought it was dec 1. i closed the calender and then reopened it and it popped back to nov 1.
I had the problem with the calendar events not shifting for my events that repeat. I'm in AZ, so we don't change, but the rest of the world is now off by one hour according to my calendar.
the only odd thing was that the time was 20 minutes behind for some reason, i just put in airplane mode and back, and the time was fixed.
At 3:45 am I was awoken by an alarm I had never set. Kind of weird.
I have the patch installed to open the calendar in month view by default. I thought it was strange when I opened it this weekend the month came up as December. I thought perhaps I bumped the screen and inadvertently flipped the month. It only happened once so I didn't think much of it, perhaps it wasn't me after all. No other problems.
My time updated just fine. Though nothing web related—e-mail, web, Nav, Google Maps—would work until I restarted the device. After the restart, all was well.
I had to get up at 3:30am. My normal alarm clock syncs via radio to Ft. Collins and I wasn't sure it would work right so I set my watch back before I went to bed and set an alarm on there as well. When I woke up at 2:30am my Pre had sprung ahead an hour instead of back. I just put into airplane mode then back on and it reset to the correct time immediately. Wierd.
My timezone got switched from PST to Alaska's. I woke up to it saying the time had gone back 2 hours instead of just 1!
My time updated fine when DST went into effect but both yesterday and today my time has switched from EST to CST?! I've manually reset the Network Time Zone from Chicago to NY (I'm in FL so I'm assuming that I should choose NY) twice now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Both of our Pre's were reset to the incorrect time zone (mountain time). After setting them back to central, a couple hours later they went back again, we reset and now all is fine. No big deal I've seen much worse...
I had the calendar issue with it showing 1 December instead of 1 November, but I didn't even notice that until I saw the thread on here about it. Aside from that, I had no issues.
I almost never had any of my Windows Mobile devices do DST properly, so this was very nice to see for once! :)

Half of my calendar appointments were moved to be an hour earlier... but not all of them. A recurring 11 am meeting was now at 10, but a recurring 4 pm meeting was still at 4. I didn't wait to see if it would eventually fix itself- decided it would be better to fix the times while I still remembered when they were supposed to be- but it was pretty frustrating.
I believe my changes are the strangest! All of my holidays and anniversary dates are showing up a day late. Halloween shows up on Nov. 1st, election day is on Wednesday not Tuesday, etc. The odd thing about it is that it cannot be manually changed, and if I switch time zones to Central or Pacific, the dates are all back where they belong. I'm hoping this will correct soon, if not I have to call Palm directly for them to try and fix the problem. Very odd.
Sunday I noticed my txt messaging was displaying a note on all the the received messages saying that they were sent an hour earlier. Being in AZ our time does not change and all the times it says im receiving txts from would be our old time zone, Pacific Time. I did reset my phone but its still displaying the note. awkward but since my phone still works other than that one minor bug, no harm no foul
I had a problem with my network time during the first few days of dst in the UK , everything seems ok now..
I have a screenshot of my problem on my blog, i didnt think anything of it until I saw this post
http://www.simplypalmpre.com/pre/network-time-killed-by-daylight-saving-...
My problem was similar to singersorel's, but in Tasks. On Saturday 10/31 Tasks told me that tasks that were due on 11/1 were due on Saturday, though the due date still said 11/1.
On 11/1 when I set some tasks to be due in one week, the due date was set to 11/7, which is one week after 10/31. However, if I set tasks to be due "today" the due date was properly set to 11/1.
My calendar appeared to be unaffected.
Today (11/2) everything seems to have returned to normal.
I live in Az, so I dont have to deal with DST. However, my phone thinks it does. Every text message I get in, regardless of where the sender is located, says "Message sent: X/X/XX XX:XX" but the time is an hour behind my actual time.
I wish the whole country would just move to permanent Summer time and be done with it.
Not a *SINGLE* person I know likes this time change crap. And almost everyone I know would prefer that we use Summer time (DST) year round.
Oh well. Guess I have to go reset 10 more clocks, fix more programs, and spend a few months adjusting my sleep schedule yet again...
Im in the same boat here in AZ, no biggie, but still, id like the see the correct time showing
That was strange. Everything worked fine...then I read this article and went in to look at my calendar(it was fine)and the Date & Time settings to compare to what Insp_Gadget listed above. Mine is set to ON for both Network Time and Network Timezone. I figured that it must have been hit or miss for people. About 15 minutes later, I wanted to check something on my calendar to make sure that I had an appointment on there from my Google Calendar....when I opened the Calendar app, low and behold, it thought that today was December 2nd. I closed and re-opened the calendar and all is fine now. I think that somehow, you guys got in and changed it! ;-)
I checked whereismypre and it showed my phone being in Dallas about 5hrs away at 830 on Halloween. Spooky...or maybe I was just that drunk...lol
FAIL on DST to Standard Time and a "cure"??
I had enabled Network Time and Network Time Zone.
I live in New Mexico, and use Time Zone Denver.
After the time change:
My calendar was opened to December 1 (Not November 1).
My Time Zone was Phoenix (!!!)
My Google Calendar events appeared an hour early.
I then manually changed the Time Zone to Denver
and resynced my calendar.
All events now appear in my Pre calendar correctly.
I am NOT satisfied that this is resolved! What I
am expecting is that I can take my Pre to Seattle
or Washington DC and the Network Time Zone will
correctly change things so that the Google calendar
items are adjusted to match the time on the Pre (as
that seems to work just fine).
We don't do daylight savings in Hawaii, so all of my texts are showing that they were received one hour earlier. It's still doing it as of right now.
When it was time to get up for church instead of my alarm ringing at 3:45am; it automatically changed to 4:45am and woke me up then. I did not notice anything else different. Really wasn't using my phone much this past Sunday, but did notice that. It was annoying for a moment, but a simple manual fix.
alarm was set for 8:05am it didn't go off till 9:05am. good thing i was already up.
Its probably just a coinsidence but while on a call my the handset ear speaker and the handset Mic stopped working, but if I press the Speakerphone button the Mic works and the loudspeaker works. Any suggestions???? UPDATE: Just had to plug in some headphones and take them right back out! THANKS PRECENTRAL FORUMS AND THE SMART PEOPLE OF PRECENTRAL! The search button really is my friend.
I have not seen my issue on here. For me, my Pre Sunday would switch back and forth between DST On & DST Off. I have a touchstone, and with it sitting there on the "table-side clock" regular screen, I could watch it literally switching between one hour and another, and then back, all within 30 seconds time. It was quite odd, and lasted for most of Sunday. At one point Sunday night I had to ask a friend if it was really 10:30 as my Pre said. It was not (which is what I thought), and within a minute the Pre showed the correct time again. It was interesting to me, nothing impairing.
The time on my Pre adjusted correctly. The only problem I had was all of my alarms were moved forward an hour. Glad I had another alarm to wake me up this morning. Felt bad that my phone went off for an hour while I was at the gym.
The time switched just fine, but my alarm, set for 0545, changed to 0645, like I wanted to wake up at that moment in time relative to the position of the sun instead of at a set time. Wierd. So I got more than the extra hour of sleep and a really really fast shower!
Very strange. No problems on Monday whatsoever. This morning my alarm goes off ... it's still dark so I assume it's cloudy out. Get up, take a shower and get dressed then realize the sun is coming up. Alarm went off an hour early. Checked other recurring events. Some, but not all, moved back an hour. One moved forward an hour. Adjusted them on the Pre (they were unchanged in Outlook) and we'll see what happens. How hard can this be, really?
Fixed my problem. My problem was that my calendar appointments (sync'd with google calendar) were off by an hour after the time change.
In the default Date & Time app, the "Network Time Zone" setting was switched on. This set my timezone as Mountain time (correct, since I live in Boise, ID), but the network information is then set automatically to Phoenix, AZ (which doesn't have a time change). Only by turning that switch off could I choose another city on the list (I chose Denver). This changed all my calendar events appropriately.
Is this a bug? Or is there another place to set your system location for date and time purposes?
To be honest, my Pre has been running 5 minutes FAST lately, for the last few weeks. I would manually change the time, and then it would somehow go connect back to network time and speed up by 5 minutes. Strange. anyone else get this?
I have an outlook repeating event every-other Sunday night at 6pm with an alarm set 1 min before. It notified be before 5pm of the event instead of 6pm! I went into the calendar and the even still said it was occurring at 6pm however, so not sure how it was alarming at 5!
My alarm keeps setting itself an hour ahead on me. I have it to go off at 7:15am and it keeps setting itself to 8:15am which is really annoying because that's when I need to take my niece and nephew to school.
