Engadget has a photo taken from the coverage of the Independent Spirit Awards last week (sidenote, this NSFW acceptance speech from Mickey Rourke is good catharsis for those who thought he should have won the Oscar). That photo shows that, as rumored, certain celebrities received Palm Pres (or the promise of future Palm Pres) in their swag bags. Unlike Palm's attitude at both CES and MWC, these beautiful people actually got to handle and play around with the little wonders. Us, we got to gaze lovingly. Which we're doing again, now.
Also, and this is just a little thing, we're very slightly relieved to see the backlit keyboard. We, you know, assumed that it would be backlit, but over the weekend a tipster at Sprint told us that an early production unit he handled was not backlit, making us slightly nervous.
Now Palm, we know we're not celebrities or anything, but it wouldn't hurt if you could pretend for a little while -- just long enough to send us one of those swag bags.

One interesting detail: Sandra Oh is standing right next to the kind of celebrity we usually follow here, Palm's own Phil McClendon (Hi Phil!). In other words, those famous folk weren't just given the pre willy-nilly, there were Palm people on hand to babysit the Pres.

Big fail from palm. They give their pre's to a bunch of celebs who don't give a rat's ass about a palm pre. They should give pre's to people who are anxiously awaiting the pre. People who can tell something more about their experience with the pre other then "I love the little mirror for my make-up"
Spoken like a true fanboy - this is actually great stuff. Photos will get out and "regular" people will inquire. This is exactly how RIM pentrated the consumer market. I see more picts of people carrying BB's than iPhones. So if they give you (or any of us here) one it is going to help them market it? Fail...
Rim penetrated the consumer market after millions of enterprise units were sold, became ubiquitous and a group within the consumer market, and not on an enterprise systems, saw the utility for themselves.

Because Palm has decided to make celebrities do the beta testing this time, rather than us proles as they usually do?
Yeah, Palm is going to give a high profile person a device that potentially has bugs. I am sure these celebrities will put aside their scripts/filming to "beta test" a phone.

From reading this article, I'm thinking the Pre will be released on the 6th of March for the Premier Members of Sprint and the 8th for the rest. I'm waiting for my email from Sprint or Palm.

Palm and Sprint should be ashamed for giving it to the celebrities first. They don't give a rats as_ about the phone. I'm sure they are getting something out of it, money wise. Just wait, when the next iPhone, Blackberry, or HTC comes out they will do the same. Entertainers have no loyalties to any products. It's who ever gives them free things and money to show it off. We already give enough of our hard earned money. Let us have it first for a change.

I am impressed.
Palm sets up a booth an an awards ceremony. The collar few celebs and say: "Here hold this." A PR gal snaps a pic, they post it on their site. Some of the PR people come here and gush.
