Confirming our earlier insider report and also what we heard from Ed Colligan yesterday, Mobile Syrup is reporting that sometime in late Q2 or early Q3, Bell Canada will be launching the Palm Pre. The report further bolsters our insider's claim by noting that the Treo Pro will also launch on the network on February 26th.
The question of when the Pre will launch on Sprint is still up in the air, of course. Although Q2/Q3 matches up with the "First half of 2009" timeline we know for Sprint, there's no guarantee that the phone will launch on the same date on both networks. It might be safe to expect that they will, however, as it's likely Palm will want to have an iPhone-like splash at launch.
Our insider at Bell had also told us the same date that Sprint CSRs were telling customers as late as last week for the Pre launch: the incredibly unlikely February 15th, this Sunday. Although we don't think it's anywhere near realistic (in the non-unicorn world) that the Pre will be available on the 15th, it may be possible that preorders could start on that date. We've heard it so often and from so many disparate sources, it seems as though something ought to go down on Sunday, but for now we're still expecting it to be a Lazy Sunday.

The Pro launches on Sunday...no Pre. Might be able to pre-order, but the Pre is not launching on the 15th. Of course with this confirmation we know that since Palm will want the U.S. release to happen before any other release that we'll be looking at an early Q2 launch from Sprint at the latest...which means an early April launch at the latest.
I'm solid on the no launch on the 15th; I work tech support and we get certain tidbits before a device launches. But apart from that everything else is speculation.
It has CDMA and soon...very soon will have very fast HSBA network....bye bye Rogers...

Take it for what its worth. I chatted with a Sprint representative online at Sprint.com. According to him, Sprint changed their release schedules yesterday for both the Palm Treo Pro and the Palm Pre. According to this rep, Treo Pro (he confirmed the one with Windows Mobile) will now be released at the beginning of March and the Palm Pre (with the slider keyboard) will be released later in March. Specific dates have not yet been posted on his system.
that is the old info. "Tier Two" tech support told me today that the Pro is coming finally on Sunday (F 15th). This was after fully clarifying Pro v Pre, old memos vs new etc. The Pre/Pro confusion with most reps didn't matter in htis case as this guy had had a Pro for two weeks, and had to surrender it for update. So he was personally following the official release, In fact he was unhappy abut his coming Tuesday two days after customers can get it.
As to the Pre he said he would be very surprised if it came out in the next two months.
People may be able to pre-order a Pre? That sentence alone is mind boggling.

No way Rogers will pick up the Pre after the committment they made to the iPhone.
And, of course, that's exactly why Bell snapped up the Pre as fast as they could. And don't forget that Bell would have had to make a very substantial $$ committment to Palm just to get the Pre.
