Games can very easily be credited with a good portion of the success that the iPhone platform has seen. In terms of playability and graphics, the iPhone and iPod Touch rival the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. While it may be a while before we see such powerful games on webOS, the developers are doing what they can to make impressive apps with the tools provided by Palm's Mojo SDK.
One of those game developers, Conniption Entertainment, has released two similar games to the webOS App Catalog: Zombie Invasion and its Christmas-themed brother Shotgun Santa. The graphics of these shooter games are surprisingly robust for the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript tools the SDK provides. Both games are stationary shooters where you, well, you fight off a zombie invasion. The more zombies you kill, the higher your points total, and the further you'll advance up the leaderboards. But the more days you survive, the worse the zombiepocalypse grows.
Zombie Apocalypse and Shotgun Santa by Conniption Entertainment are both available in the App Catalog for $0.99 each.
Developers, interested in having a video of your app on PreCentral? Post your video to YouTube and then put a link in this thread on the PreCentral forum and we'll check it out.

niceeeeee !! ;)
Great game, hope the developers will make it even better with the upcoming release of new SDK and maybe GPU utilization
That looks fun!
too bad there is still no sound for this game...
the pre is a phone/pda not a portable game system. you want that get a psp, ds, or an ipod touch. if you choose the pre for a video game im glad you got rid of it, a smartphone for a non smart user does not mix and just causes problems. app do enhance the phone but the apps do not make the phone, especially video game apps. i did buy tetris from the app catalog, but i did not get the pre for tetris i got it for my gmail, google calendar, and other great features.
enjoy your hero for video games, and i hope you got a good deal, if u did not and payed $300 and up it shows more that your seriously do not deserve a smart phone since you can get a psp for the same price or a ds for cheaper.

"the apps do not make the phone." That's debatable. i mean you mention gmail, calender. those are apps. and specifically regarding games. Take the iphone. the biggest selling handset. And on it games are the biggest sellers, the most downloaded apps, and most profitable for developers. I think it's a very bad mistake to miss the importance of games on a phone. They generate revenue and they bring in users.
i'm not getting rid of my pre cause it has no games, only because i'm not rich and spoiled so i can't justify doing that, but i may not buy another palm device if it has few games and few apps that appeal to me. Which is where it is with me now.
you think games on a phone causes problems?? A phone that can do everything is amazing...I bought this phone cause you can do so much with it, I wish there was an nes a snes a sega emulator cause I would hve every game... You sound like you don't know how to use a remote.... Do everyone a favor and don't put stupid and negitve coments about people buying a phone that can do everything even run video games cause it doesn't cause any problems.....
Since Pre launched I've been giddy over this phone. I can't believe how foolish I've been. These...."games" is so weak and lame compared to the games AND apps I have on my Hero. Fishing, racing, shooting, baseball....all with EXTREMELY great 3D graphics!. I cant believe I used to be excited about games like this for my Pre! I had my Pre in my closet stashed away just in case, but it's going on Ebay and Craigslist TODAY! Palm....all I can say is it's a shame that loyal Palm fans stick around and believe things will be different. I'm glad I decided to venture outside of my little Palm world!
how much coin did it cost you to abandon Pre so you could play fishing and baseball?
when things changed in the Palm world which I think they wil, you're welcome back with open arm. So,in the meantime good luck in your new venture.
queer
you are? good for you!
I'm pretty sure that when the Pre was still waiting to be released all the reviews said that this wasn't going to be a Gaming phone. So, Why would you run out and Grab a Pre if all you wanted it for was to game on? Well, I say, Thank you palm for all the advancements there has been in the WebOS and keep those updates coming. Still looking forward to the GPU being used and for Video function. Can't Wait! :-D ♥ Love you Palm ♥
here, here, palm community need more loyal people like you.I just downloaded my palm video recorder with sound and FLASH!wow!look really promising.Btw,for those looking for games,go get the iphone,oh! they've lots of FART apps!!!
@:silversuperman.
Palm has iPhone beat on fart apps when looking at the fart apps as a percentage of the whole. I don't expect you to understand this -- just sayin'
got the point! keep on farting on the iphone.
Unfortunately for you, those great 3D graphics that you are seeing now are about as good as you are going to see from your manufactured in 2007 Qualcomm processor in your Hero.
Lets reconvene in a year and we will see if you're still impressed with your baseball and fishing games.
Unlike your Hero, my Pre will have a processor that will still be relevant come next year. Your Qualcomm processor was obsolete last year.
Mobile phone games in general are pretty "weak and lame" compared to anything offered on dedicated gaming portables. If you want "EXTREAM!!! 3D GRAFIX", I don't get why you're trolling a smartphone blog.

lol
would get old very very fast.
please elaborate
I can only judge from what i see in the video but it seems very monotonous. It's like space invaders but you have a shot gun. But it's not space invaders which is a classic and actually would probably do very well. That and like galaga or asteroids. i mean i'd hope there were tons of different weapons, and add ons you can pick up like double barrel shot guns, dual shot guns, ak's, grenades.
This it seems very simplistic. And sorry but any game on a cell phone is gonna get stacked up against other phones like with games. Now granted it's overpriced at $9.99, but Call of Duty World at War Zombies, just came out for the iphone. it's not worth 9 bones but it's a well made game. check it out on youtube and you'll see the difference. but to each his own. you're talking to someone that has yet to buy an app cause there's nothing there that interests me. Someone will dig this i'm sure.
"Games can very easily be credited with the a good portion of the success that the iPhone platform has seen"
Even without the typo "the a", I am still not quite sure what was meant by this opening sentence.
Is it saying games in general on mobile platforms are successfull due to the iPhone?
Is it saying games on the Pre owe their success partly to the success they have had on the iPhone?
Was "the" meant to say "their"?
The sentence is perfectly clear to me. Is English your first language?
So you don't see any ambiguity in that sentence? Would you do me the honor of rephrasing it then so us ESL folks can understand it?

Looks great especially for the price. Looks like I found my first paid app.
i will probably buy this because i've been able to preview it. thats my paranoia about buying apps because you dont really know what your buying, when i can preview i feel a lot more confident about doing such.
Question: does this game for sure not have sound? or was that just for video purposes?
it for sure does not have sound. maybe it will come in an update?
It actually does, I just found it. You've gotta hit the option to turn it on in the game and then make sure the ringer switch is toggled on for your phone.
Only has one sound at the intro of the game. The video was recorded on the emulator, that's why you can't hear it there.
If all I wanted was a gaming phone, I would have gotten an ipod touch. I wanted a COMPLETE phone, not one where the only developments seem to be coming from the community instead of the company. I am a grown man that owns businesses in three states, but yes, I love to play games while traveling. The whole 1.3.1 update killed my enthusiasm for the Pre especially when it screwed up my emails. The game mention was because this thread IS about a game....duh! For those that appreciate waiting for every little crappy update, terrible apps that you actually have to pay for, and hoping the devs keep developing a way for you to enjoy features on your phone that Palm can't even implement....good luck to you. Enjoy your wait and enjoy your far inferior product.
Oh, and to liver...I updgraded son so I paid new contract price, which I will get back once I sell the Pre. Wow, it just occurred to me why they call it a Pre....which is short for prefix, which is the beginning of a word huh? In this case it's the beginning of a phone...lol!
I gotta hand it to you.. That was a glorious burn..
I think you mean it could have been. The problem with his statement is that pre is not short for prefix, it IS a prefix, meaning comes before or prior to. To prepare is to get ready ahead of time, prevent is to stop something before it starts etc.
Wut? you got your new phone when you got a new contract? So does that mean that when you bought your pre you paid full price for it rather than new contract price? Well im sure that when you sell your pre you'll get every penny back you spent on it, after all the price of the pre hasn't come down any. tee hee
Are you familiar with the word UP-GRADE? I brought my Pre brand new from someone on CL for $200 a week after it came out. I had to exchange it 4 times already and have been able to because I know someone at Sprint. I UP-GRADED to the Hero. Even if I HAD to pay full price, why would you care? It's MY money isn't it? After having the Hero now for about a week, I WOULD have paid full price for it, now knowing all it can do that the Pre-phone can't! I would have just taken the loss.
Oh, and the word is spelled WHAT? not WUT? Then again, maybe you knew that but was just to lazy to type the word correctly adding the extra letter....lol!
You sound like no businessman I know. Maybe you own lemonade stands?
oh,that hurts!and 1 point to you.
I do. Free Pre with a glass.
Ok we get the point you upgraded to a pre then to a hero, now this site is for pre users and there's also a proper site for the Hero. being a smart lemonade owner in 3 states you should know that no one cares that you switch the pre to another phone, that you love video games and you play them while selling lemonades, and you do need time to kill. and the hero is a perfect phone for you. WAT u need to is go to the android central or what ever it is a boast about your lemonade stands there, along with the high scores you get. again this pre is a phone/pda, i got the phone not wanting to play battleships or Need for speed when i only have 30 minutes to kill, i check football stats for that :), but then again we all use this phone for different purposes, and some of those purposes (video games) there is something wrong with that, but being human you have the right to that choice.
WUT
wow!another BIG hurts!!! and another point to you!You just sent him and his lemonade stand to the Android central for GOOD!Any of you Iphone fanboys or htc care to venture into this Palm community?lol'We protect our own.
If I owned lemonade stands at least their MINE! Better than rolling in carts at Target. Oh yeah, tell your Dad not to be late to work tomorrow either!!
oh,WUT? you do own a lemonade stand.
Still waiting for the Pre to get a game that beats Warfare Inc on the Treo 700p. Or even to get Warfare Inc. which runs on the 700p, and the iPhone and WinMo phones but NOT on the Pre.
Warfare Inc is just the most notable example, but there are hundreds of great games for Palm OS Treo and Centro ranging from Ackeron to Zikex and many of them are free. Not to mention Atari ST and Nintendo emulators that run on the Treo and Centro.
So whoever left the post that "smartphones aren't for games" can kiss my ... , who died and appointed YOU Czar? Don't tell me what I should expect from a Smartphone. I expect a Pixie or Pre to be BETTER than a Centro or Treo at games, and everything else. Until that day, I won't be buying one.
Why so serious? It's just a phone.
for those pre crashes > www.nintendo.com/ds and www.htc.com/hero...... bye bye.. thanks for creating an account on PREcentral.. go complaint on the htc site.. i'm sure they need your pathetic comments there !!
man this blows..i wouldn't even spotlight games until they are on par with the iphone. I mean the pre is suppose to have this great hardware inside, correct?
It has very similar hardware to the 3GS. Its also only had 5 months of existence on the market, with only 3 months of App Catalog availability. If I remember correctly, the iPhone took a nearly full year to even get its first native app that wasn't homebrewed in. How people forget that the iPhone for a year was exactly the same as the Pre, in that it ran only web based applications, and more embarrassingly, only one of them at a time. Do you honestly think Apple sat on an SDK for a year? No. For that year, they refined the API's and tuned the subsystem for handling custom apps so that their platform would be safe from the eventual thousands of apps that would be written for it. Palm is doing the same thing.
The phone has barely been out, and Palm as a whole is the size of a single department at Apple. They are doing what they can to get the phone open and available to developers. Even with those caveats, I would safely predict that Palm wont be waiting a full year to get a native SDK available to developers.
just one thing:
today is 30.11.2009, apple has 100 000 apps, many of them with top-level graphics
pre on the other hand doesnt even have native SDK
so basically, nobody cares about how iphone looked 2 years ago, palm is not competing with apple in 2007
in other words: you just admitted, that pre is 2 years behind competition :)
poor apple fanboys. they are attacking a 5 months phone with the 100 000 apps vcr device. they all know they just got " copy and paste " and still attacking.. their next phone in 2010 might be a iphone 3gF ( added flash to the camera " and they all be happy again.. so sad !1
so i am fanboy for only now getting a vital function and you are not for defending function that doesnt exist? how sad
also im not attacking, thats just stating a fact, but its impossible to do that on a site where Dieter was attacked for pointing out flaws of a pre
If you own an Pre then this might look nice. Otherwise...
Developers take note. I am purchasing this app because I can see it in action. I read about this app when it was released and didn't even consider it. I'm not sure why there are no demo's in the official catalog. I guess it is a limitation by Palm, but I think it will benefit you to find another way to show the marketplace what you have.
Speaking of emulators, does the Classic emulator and, say, a (yet undeveloped) webOS Nintendo emulator delve deep below the html/ web based programming we have now? I take it that's probably a yes, and if so, who developed the Nintendo emulator for Palm OS? Was deep homebrew so much easier for it, a good Palm SDK was available, or was it simply years of "seat-o-de-pants" experience that brought that together?
wow. So much tension in these replies. Anyhow, I'm getting impatient but nothing I am planning to do about it for now. Please speed up the SDK development process and release the APIs or whatever it takes. This is not a pre iphone period. It's an iphone, android, BB time so Palm can't rest on how long it took another phone to get its stuff together, IMHO & I bet the market agrees. Regardless, the phone is awesome but remains incomplete. It is what it is until Palm gets stuff together or the market leaves it behing...... IMHO
Agree
Best $1 game on the Pre. Nice start, but hopefully we'll see better games came out in the future when the GPU gets involved.
