$80 Pre at Best Buy this weekend for new contracts and renewals

Palm Pre, $79.99 at Best Buy

We guess you could call it a Black Friday sale, and it’s awesome. Shoppers at Best Buy on the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving will be able to grab a Sprint Palm Pre for the low low price of $79.99. This matches the lowest price we’ve seen for the Pre anywhere in the United States. However, unlike every other deal we’ve seen, this applies to both new Sprint customers and contract renewal upgrades! Online shoppers will also be able to take advantage of this sale a day early on Thanksgiving. Not that you shouldn’t be spending the day gorging on turkey with friends and family.

If the above pricing story isn't wild and crazy enough for you, here's a rumor on the subject of Best Buy and Black Friday.  Several tipsters have claimed that some stores may be having an unadvertised deal at opening. Take this with a grain of salt, but the first people through the door may be able to get a Palm Pre for the rock bottom price of free. We haven’t been able to confirm this yet, but we’ve heard it enough times that we thought it worth putting out there.

Thanks to Alex (and Anonymous folks) for the tip!

This is very cool! I went through all kinds of hoops to purchase a Pre third party to avoid a contract upgrade, to try it out first, but as my experience has been very good, just might go get my wife and one of my kids one on this deal. :)

Not able to upgrade my wifes phone til February. Sure hope this kinda of deal is around then.

Ugg! My contract isn't up until Dec 1st!!!! Ugg!

I am beginning to wish I had waited. I paid 150 for my Pre in August from Bell Mobility with a three year contract.

Any chance they'll give me the difference if I already own one? :)

Wow. Really? That thought actually same out? Wow.

I asked how Price Matching works with Black Friday and he said not gonna happen most likely.

However, I'm debating returning my Pre on Wednesday and ordering online on Thursday. I'll just deal without a phone for a bit.

Any one know if Sprint would do price matching on Thursday??? BTW, when Sprint does do price matching, does the price match also include rebate match?? As in no mail-rebates.

Wouldn't it be great if on Thursday we could call Sprint, have them price match BB and get them to get rid of activation fee?? Any hopeful we could pull that of???

They charge for activation at best buy? EDIT: just checked, it costs another $36!

Seems like it. Not sure if there is diff between online vs in-store. But if you go online and add phone to cart at checkout you will see a $36.00 activation fee.

Awesome! I WAS hoping to sit around and avoid all the stores on friday but I will be out upgrading my wife's phone so we wil now be a 2 Pre house!

I will be ordering on Thursday, hopefully I can just select in-store pick up, so I don't have to worry about the crowds.

This sounds great, but I bet that the rebate for upgrade lines will only apply if they've been 22 months into the contract :(

I just bought a Pre two weeks ago this Friday. Since it's so soon when the price went down from Best Buy, will I be able to get a discount or a refund? That's just kind of sucks that I just bought a Pre from Best Buy and they drop the price.

Call the best buy you bought it from, and ask. The worst they can do is say no.

Nebraska Furniture Mart has the Pre in this weeks ad for $49.99 after $100 NFM instant savings. The price is good until Dec. 12 for those near the Kansas City and Omaha Stores.

It would be great if 1) re-upgrades were allowed and discounts were given; 2) Sprint just agreed to discount the price for early adoters.

I doubt either one will happen, though. I bought my Pre for $200 at Radio Shack in August, and Sprint defers to them for any sort of credit or reimbursement... and of course with Radio Shack, once you're outside of 30 days, you're basically hosed.

If anyone has any different experience, please let me know - I could use the extra cash for Christmas shopping.

Thanks everyone who made this post possible! Money's tight and I've been waiting the last couple weeks for an upgrade price sale. This would be it. New Pre this weekend!

Will there be rain checks? This is going to sell out fast.

Said somewhere that the in-store offer will have a minimum of 5 per store. I'm thinking web order...

And silly me just shelled out my extra cash for a present for mom. Must. Find. The money!

If you are a Reward Zone Silver member, you can get the Pre for $80 between 11/18 & 11/29, excluding 11/27. This was emailed out as a store coupon. It is valid for new activations and upgrades.

thats good ............

radio shack hast for $50 but only on friday after 5:30pm i think.

Does it work for existing users?

I know Alex! haha. I work with him. Nice find buddy. Now it's time to get yourself one.

amazon has it for around $70

So I just checked, and Amazon has the Palm Pre for $79.99 and NO ACTIVATION FREE (they say it's a litmited time offer) OMG!!!!! If only they had this offer for upgrades/renewal of contracts. What the hell, new customers are always getting better deals...arg!!!!

So I've been out of Sprint contract for 2 yrs now. I want the Pre so bad. I just need the right deal...as in, $79.99 and no activation fee.

amazon has it for around $70

How good is Best Buy with processing a contract extension without messing anything up with the account? I've got a nice discount grandfathered on my Everything Data plan and I don't want Best Buy screwing it up. Would it be better to buy through a Sprint Store?

Hey guys I'm new to the board and had a question. I went in to Sprint today and talked with them about the Best Buy deal (hoping they would price match - no harm in trying). He brought up a couple of things that I was a little fuzzy on. He told me all the pre's that Best Buy sells are "refurbished". Is that right and what does that mean? I don't think I'm buying that (think he was a salesman, trying to sell me something).
He also mentioned a poor customer service record for Best Buy and their mobile customers.
Thoughts?

No way best buy only has refurbished pres, that would mean they couldn't have had any until people returned some or they got some bad ones from palm. Refurbished means "taking the bad and fixing it."

Yeah that is total bull! Refurbished means used but repaired to like new condition. Best Buy sells new phones and the exact same plans as Sprint, your contract is with Sprint not bestbuy after all (though I do think that BestBuy offers their own warranty for extra $$$ pointless) I have bought my last two sprint phones inluding my pre from them no problems, no hassle, and as always no mail in rebates which is why people go to them. I got mine the day they dropped it to 150, cuz I just couldn't wait any longer...kindve wished I had though beacause that $50 deal at Nebraska Furniture Mart is pretty unbeleivable for those of us in the midwest. As far as customer service goes it seems just as good as anywhere else sometimes you get an extremely helpful and knowledgeable person and sometimes you don't, but I definitely have never heard of any major complaints. Their geeksquad is pretty useless but the everyday Mobile guys at least at our local store are always very helpful and UTD on all the latest tech news.

Thanks everyone. I figured he was just trying to sell me a phone. One other question - does Best Buy transfer your numbers from one phone to the next? I've got a motorola krzr right now and I'm wondering if I'll need to do that myself when I buy the pre.

We have a family plan, with 4 members on it. 3 of us have used our upgrade to get the better price on the pre, but my father hasn't been able to upgrade yet. If the 3 of us have already upgraded, and we have renewed our contract already, will my father be able to get this price from the online bestbuy? It says with a 2 year renewal, but we have already renewed. Does this exclude us from this deal? Thanks!!

CPU Scaling 600 bricked my Pre. Hangs during start up. Time to doctor! If not, time to swap at Best Buy!

BestBuy sold me a Pre today (Wed) for $79.99 on two-year renewal - $83 out the door with tax. They activated the phone, but let me not set up Palm profile; phone's still unopened in box.

I purchased for Christmas gift for wife, ran home logged into Sprint and switched her phone back to her Centro so she'll be none the wiser. BB has extended return until Jan 31, so if she doesn't like I can take back.

Thank you a thousand times! They also gave me the discount Wednesday night so I don't have to do the black friday shopping. Thanks to you this is my first post from my PALM PRE!

I just ordered the Pre over the phone with Best Buy (some order take in India who repeated everything I said).

79 bucks plus 18 dollar activation fee plus a few accessories to get started. We'll see what happens in a few days when it arrives and I activate it. Hope they didn't screw anything up with my Treo or my wife's BlackBerry.

I just ordered 2 from amazon for $79.99 and $36 activation fee be on my hands by Tuesday.

I ordered my wife a Pre at bestbuy.com on Thursday. She is eligible to upgrade her phone and we already have the Everything Data 450 family plan we share. We received an e-mail from Best Buy Mobile saying it was urgent we contact them before they could ship my wife's Pre. When I called them they said we would have to upgrade our plan because they do not offer the Everything Data 450 family plan. I told them that their advertisement has no such fine print, and that my wife is eligible to upgrade, so the only change we want to make is to remove her old phone and add the Pre with her old number.

I was told that my options were to change plans, get a new plan for my wife, or cancel my order. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and am still waiting for that call, five hours later.

So for those wondering if Best Buy will mess up their plan, I'd say from my experience the answer is yes. Be very, very careful if you only want to upgrade your phone and not change your plan. Finally, their customer service is in another country and it was exceedingly difficult to understand the rep, which only made the whole experience worse.
